Also the train was swaying back and forth causing me to get a bit nauseous. The food itself was all pretty good! The cheese and fruit plate, potato and leek soup, pretzel roll, and salad were all great starters. I was satisfied with the meal before my entree even arrived! My family and I tried all of the different options (prime rib, salmon, and chicken) and thought they all tasted good. Though I could have done without cranberries in my rice... The dessert was small and light for a cheesecake. Food was surprisingly better than we thought. As for the show, I definitely didn't get how we were supposed to deduce the killer. But the actors did a great job and it was overall a fun night.

The tickets are expensive (makes sense...you're getting a show, a 5-course meal, and riding a train) and being able to buy separately was really helpful for us. Everything the night of the event ran like clockwork. Boarding the train was easy and fun. We had a table in the Gasparilla train car with lovely servers who took care of us all night. Drinks are pretty reasonable (ice tea and water are included, but you can purchase soda, beer, wine, cocktails) and you can even get a full bottle of wine for your table which you can take home if you don't finish onboard. The meal was better than I expected. It started with a fruit and cheese plate, then we had hot pretzel rolls an butter, a delicious potato leek soup, a salad, and then the appetizer. Our choices were prime rib (friends said it was delicious), chicken francese (I loved it) and salmon. Dessert was a cheesecake. The performers were very animated and enthusiastic. These murder mystery shows are always hard for me to actually follow and figure out. I appreciate all that goes into it, but I wish I was a better sleuth. My only issue is that the train ride itself is VERY long at 3 - 3.5 hours. I love a nice train ride, but I wonder if they could shave a little time off the ride.

Once in the preserve the roads are not paved and can be muddy, I have a low car and there was one area I was a little nervous about, but we did not have any problems. We were given a map of the preserve at the entrance where we checked in and the pleasant worker suggested the best location to see the flowers. The preserve is open weekends November through May except when there is hunting. There are camping sites available. There are hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding trails. The preserve is quite a distance off Alligator Alley, but it was worth the time to get there. I would definitely return.

They have some cool tropical birds on their front entryway that are always fun to chat with! We have taken numerous guests here and always find the staff to be super friendly and the airboat drivers knowledgeable. It is a fun and educational ride for people of all ages and the cost is reasonable. There are other airboat operators who do the fast twists and turns in the mangroves, but I personally like this ride on Lake Trafford. Highly recommend!

When we checked in they said they were down 1 tour guide / captain. We were very understanding as they said the captain was not feeling well - so we were fine with it! And asked if we could take the 11am tour and he would give us a discount. Well the discount was the 5% she already quoted me over the phone. We finally got on our way at 11:30. I guess we were expecting the airboat to go fast- my mistake for not asking. Also this tour does not have the headsets so captain can speak to you. They do provide headphone to cancel the noise. Captain Fred was a nice enough man- however we would have appreciated him telling us a little more than 2 species of birds and slowing down when a gator appeared. We were curious about the traps that were in the water and also saw two fisherman in the center of the pond. No mention of any of that. While we quickly realized it being too hot for the gators to come to surface- that is not the problem of the tour guide or company- we would have enjoyed a little speed or something to make up for the lack of gators. Our knowledgeable guide Brad told us if you go in the late summer (wet season), 2' or so of water is flowing through it. So, what you see in the two seasons is different. They also have a nice gift shop, small museum and a restaurant. We saw all sorts of birds and animals. Even though they aren't necessarily exotic or rare, you are seeing them in their habitat. The ranch property really represents FL, more so than some other types of tours. And, it is for all ages and reasonably priced. Our visiting late teenage aged grandsons and friend enjoyed the tour every bit as much as we did. Highly recommend!

The parking is near the beach and it was a garage that was $10 all day. The bathroom is near the beach as well. They have an area you can rinse your feet near the restroom. Beautiful setting, like walking through a tropical arboretum, lush and tropical. We were given samples of probably a dozen leaves to eat or smell through our tour. It really opened my eyes to trying to plant a few things that I hadn't considered before. There's also a small gift shop with some unique items as well as a nursery/garden center with some of the many plants that we had seen on our tour. Nice variety and decent prices !
