They crap all over the place. The first 10 feet of sand is basically raked kitty litter, with duck poo instead of cat poo. The water and beach smell like poo. The beach (above the poo line) would be fine without the smell, as the sand is pretty clean and fine. Maybe the rest of the lake is clean, but it's hard to tell from the beach. Eww. The staff is friendly but not assertive enough. We went during COVID restrictions and half the people refused masks inside and none of the staff enforced anything.

We are transitioning to being full time and can't wait for that to happen. I gave 4 stars because there is always room for improvement, but overall our feeling is "too good to be true" for so many of the good things. Some of the houses need updating due to the age. Sometimes it's just cosmetics, as they have been owned by the same retired folks for decades and naturally need a little TLC to bring them more up-to-date feeling or to fit today's lifestyles, but they come at a price that makes updating affordable. Low amenity fees include marinas, tennis/pickleball, fitness center, walking trails, golf, lakefront beach and picnic areas. Low county property taxes also add to the value. As with all HOA communities, there can be things that are a little annoying, opinions that differ, or it can feel a little cliquish, but overall the setting is gorgeous, feels like a forest, and the amenities and common areas are well kept. Neighbors are very friendly (well, mostly...there are a few grumps but they are the minority). Massive renovations are taking place and are to be finished in 2019, making an already nice place way nicer, and still incredibly affordable. One common misconception is that it's retirement only, and while that does make up a large percentage, there are more and more younger members, families with children and middle age range people moving in. With today's technology and the ability for many to work from a home base, it opens this community up to a way wider range than may have been attracted to it before. This is a neighborhood of tremendous value and it is worth looking into if you are searching for a lakeside community with wonderful amenity options that your whole family can enjoy, at a very reasonable price.

Even though we got there super early, because of the holiday, there was a HUGE line getting into Devils Fork Park with the park rangers checking in with every vehicle - the rangers were turning away everyone without a parking reservation. I called Eclectic Sun and the nice lady on the phone said to show them our kayak reservation confirmation and that she would have a parking spot saved for us. Because we were in line for 1+ hours, we didn't get in until way after our reservation time but everyone was super nice and adjusted the time for us. The guys at the life jacket rental and down by the water helping people get in and out of their kayaks were also all very nice. All kayaks they had seemed to be in great shape, we had no problem using ours. Once you're out in the water, you can just dock it at any beach area you find around the lake (even though it was a busy day at the lake, there are so many beaches, you can easily find an empty one). We will definitely come back and rent one out again!

As a bonus, the bathrooms are kept very clean and are nicer than any park bathroom I have ever been in. If you haven't been here yet, just do it!
