The music here is true to the name of the venue. Quick: Think of one of your all-time favorite 80's dance tunes. Over the course of any given evening, it is probably going to be played at Studio Eighty, and very likely to be played against a backdrop of the song's official music video, too. Do you want to dance to Billie Jean by Michael Jackson? Check: It will be played! Into the Groove by Madonna? Check. Don't You Want Me? by Human League? Check. Celebration by Kool and The Gang? Push It by Salt-N-Pepa? Check and check!! A full service bar and an attentive wait staff keep the adult libations flowing at prices around what you would expect for a nightclub in a downtown setting. There is a cover charge at the door for men ($10), but women are admitted without any cover charge. There is plenty of seating, a good dance floor with multiple points of entry and exit, decent bathroom-stall availability, and, although inside the club is smoke-free, there is a comfortable, weather-neutral, outside, seated lounge area where smokers can smoke. THERE IS NO KITCHEN at Studio Eighty, so make sure you eat before you party. On the Friday night of my birthday, the demographic across the club was surprisingly varied in age: My guess is that the youngest partiers were in their mid-20s, and the oldest were likely in their 60s. There was a good mix of men and women. There were parties of groups of friends like mine, parties of men-only and women-only participants, as well as couples and singles galore. Oh, and ball caps of any sort are not welcome. Ethnically that evening, the demographic in the club skewed mostly European-American, Asian-American, and Hispanic-American. (Please take that last statement only for informational purposes. While many people long for the day when race or ethnicity doesn't matter, the fact is that for purposes of clubs and churches, these classifications are still key decision factors. So, I am simply offering my perception for information in a Yelp review.) If you plan to hold a party at Studio Eighty, they will take reservations if you go down to the club during the week between 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and give them a deposit. Email them through their Web site and they will email you all the details in advance. If your party goes on as planned, the VALUE OF your deposit (not the cash money itself) will be available to you as bar credit for the night of the party only. Now, this is where Studio Eighty screwed up. When I went to the venue on a weekday afternoon about two weeks before my party, they manager said I could apply my deposit toward the cover charge. My deposit was $120 for four high-top tables. "Cool," I said. "That means the cover charges for the first 12 male guests to my party will be covered." The manager confirmed that was how it would work. And that is the information I put into my party invitation. On the night of my party, my S.O. and I arrived around 8:45 p.m., early enough to set up. As we walked up to the cashier, she asked me for a $10 cover charge. Whoa Nelly!! I explained that unless 11 of my male guests had already arrived -- highly unlikely since the party invitations were for 9:30 p.m. -- then my cover charge should be covered by the $120 deposit I had made two weeks prior. The cashier was polite and apologetic, but informed me she had no such instructions or information. She called over a manager ... not the one with whom I had set things up with, in person, two weeks ago. This manager said that cover-charge credit was not an option for use of the value of an advance deposit, and that he was only aware of the option for it to be applied as bar credit. Keeping my cool, I firmly insisted that, be that as it may, that, in reliance on the other manager's assurance, I had made this an important feature of my party invitation. After a couple more back-and-forth comments, eventually this Friday-night manager said he would do what he could to uphold the assurance of the two-weeks-ago manager. I thanked him and went on with my party. Frankly, I do not know how it all worked out with the venue applying the value of my deposit to the cover charges of my male guests. I'm a lover not a fighter!! I had an epic party regardless, with 20-25 of my friends showing up throughout the evening, at least half of which were men. With apologies to Prince, that night we all partied like it was 1989!! The reason I am sharing with you this aspect of my experience with Studio Eighty is because I hope the club stands behind the first manager's assurance to me and allows application of deposit values to cover charges. It makes so much sense, should not be difficult to manage with guest lists or code words or some other method to enable specific people to gain prepaid entry. Once they are inside, they can (and most likely will) buy their own drinks. read more

I came here for a birthday party. I was skeptical and weary from the bad reviews. We received nothing but 5 star customer service from entry,bartender,and waitress. My husband ordered Jack and Coke and me a margarita. Neither was watered down. We started out in the 80's room then went to the 90's room. Music was great! We went on a Friday night. The 90's room wasn't packed but we did arrive early 8pm and left around 10:30pm. My husband and I are not club people but we had a nice time. Tonight we were kicked out because a member of out party laid down on a bench seat which was reserved & paid for. The owner didn't inquire about her well being and didn't ask her to sit up he just had us removed. I'm not excusing her laying down but being kicked out was an extreme action without cause. I tried this place out last weekend and was very impressed. The music was great, the welcoming staff was awesome and drinks were moderately priced. I've been waiting for an 80's bar like this to come to Fort Worth and I'm extremely excited that we have one now. The only thing I would suggest to the owner would be to beef up security. Although this location is right around the corner from the now busy metropolitan 7th St., unfortunately, previous visits to the bar next door have ended in car vandalism tragedy. I am happy to return to this bar but I'm hesitant to park with fear of something happening while I'm enjoying myself inside. Despite the slight paranoia I am extremely pleased that they offer free shuttles within a 5 mile radius. I can guarantee that I will take advantage of that amazing perk next Friday when a bunch of us come out to celebrate my birthday. My GF and I try to guess the next song and we are almost always right! Saturday is worse with duchebag stalkers just standing on the dance floor and watching the women. I come to this place often. My friends and I love it. However, over the last two years the DJ has gotten worse and worse. This guy needs his attitude checked and continues to play more obscure music over the fun 80s hits that everyone loves. I get saving songs for peak times, but that does not warrant telling a girl "I'm not playing that, it's basic" when she requests Africa by Toto. You work at an 80s bar, just play the song. Africa is a lot more popular than whatever obscure personal playlist he was playing tonight. Really too bad because this place used to be so fun. read more

My husband and I were entering Eddie V's restaurant and a guy from the club handed us free cover tickets and told us to stop by afterwards. Well as you probably guessed we did since I'm writing this review. We had a great time!! Music was great and what made it better is the video for each song. It's a small club but has a cool, fun vibe. The only thing we didn't like is that they said their Jell-O shots were strong - we didn't feel anything from the 4 we had - in a short period of time. After requesting an appropriate song from the DJ, he told me that Fort Worth was a terrible place for music and even he couldn't stand the city he "sells the place out with **** music" every week. I came here for the first time bringing a friend from the U.K. Thinking it was an 80's dance club, NO, the DJ plays 70's and 90's and newer, maybe it's just about not the 80's? The woman's restrooms have flyers from the local comedy club posted in the stalls from August and September bookings, this is November, so that says how much attention is paid to that area. There is a large room that's very nice but closed off? This is a beautiful location but definitely could use better management. We met some friends out at Studio Eighty. It was a small building jam packed full of people. We stood at the bar for 15 min while being completely ignored only to have the bar back tell us there was another bartender on the other side. The staff seemed to not like their jobs. There were only 3 bar tenders in the whole building! On top of that the whole building was full of empty reserved tables. There was no where to sit or hardly walk because of all the tables. We have gone here a few times in the past year. Always a fun time with friends. The negative is the music and it gets old fast. They seem to play the same type of 80s music over and over and will not play things like Def Leppard, Metallica, AC/DC. Would be nice if they had a good mix of those 80s songs also. This 40+ year old bouncer proceeded to make snide, sleazy, or just plain inappropriate comments to my friends and I as we showed our IDs. He told one of my friends who is 21 "I like(s) them young". Also he told another one of my friends she "must be young at heart" because she looked older than her ID picture and it pretty much ruined the rest of her night. Very fun place and music. However, super shady business practices there. For example, given other reviews, we brought cash. Husband bought two drinks when we arrived. Bartender says $14. Husband paid with a $20 and got $6 change and a receipt that said the two drinks were actually $13.50. We moved to a reserved table with bottle service. Waitress kept clearing half-drunk drinks so we'd have to make more. In addition, after repeated requests, she did not bring us additional mixers or waters. Had to go to bar to get. Very fun vibe and great dancing. Would love to go back again but feel super icky about supporting a business so adept at ripping people off. A real shame. read more

When I visited here a month ago and was surprised by a $100 hold on my credit card for 3days for one glass of wine (without ANY notification that would happen) Studio 80 personal vigorously insisted that 1) This was "standard practice", that it was their bank that required that they do it, 2) that wait staff and bartenders "should" be notifying patrons that this was the policy and, 3) after my complaint, (noticable) signs would be posted at the entrance of the club notifying patrons of the policy. Since that time, I've asked many people who are more frequent club goers if they've ever experienced this and not one person has said they have. Comments on my original post indicate that there are still not signs posted and one person said they specifically asked about what the "hold" on their card was and were not told about the amount. If you choose this place for a night out, I strongly suggest using only cash and keeping track of charges even then. This business seems to have some blatantly SHADY policies and bookkeeping. We came all the way to Fort Worth because my mom wanted to come and celebrate her birthday here and we made a whole weekend out of it. Our entire night in Fort Worth was amazing and Studio Eighty was so fun until ONE person ruined the entire night for us. SCOTTY (whatever his actual name was but the security guards/other workers confirmed that as his name) was the most disrespectful person I have encountered and ruined our night. My mom and I do not like causing scenes but Scotty aggressively got mad at me for leaning against a "VIP couch" and continued to be rude to me for no reason and I have never experienced anything like it. I will never come back to this place and my mom (who frequently comes here, has events here and tells all of her friends about it, will never come here again unless they actually do something to resolve this situation instead of sweeping it under the rug. Scotty needs to be let go or trained on how to have a different mindset and how to respect everyone around him, especially if you want to confine growing this place. We were so disappointed by the way we were treated and will continue letting others know so they don't receive the same treatment. read more

After about 2 hours someone from the club (employee) called security and said one of our friends was drunk or walking while holding the wall...this person they claimed was drunk is actually in the USAF and was in good shape. We did not get to finish our bottle nor did we finish our other drinks. When I asked why they were escorting my friend out, the officer then pushed me and said "you too...get out"? I've called the club numerous times but to no avail. All was well until they called security and the police to have us rushed out the doors. Well, this was my 4th trip here. Love the music and takes you back to the original MTV days. I raved about this place. Past tense. I broke my ankle in July. I came to support a recently single friend. I am also not going to sit around at home. The owner made a big deal about my knee scooter. Everywhere place I've gone with it has been accommodating and great. He told me I was on my own as there lots of glass and everything around? Guess he has a paranoia of being sued. It was extremely rude and uncalled for. Not to mention there were many unused reserved tables and all the couches the entire time we were there til late. Never tried to find me somewhere to sit. I sat on my scooter and made the best of it. Life is too short not to have fun. You won'tlast as a business with these kind of owners. Too bad. love the music. And it's too small.
