This one was specially inviting , right from the friendly staff at the front desk to the calm and knowledgeable instructors , everything here suits my needs. There are variety of classes for every one and they take great care to work with your injuries . I love attending Audra`s classes , as she makes you do real serious stuff with a happy smile on her face ,until you realize you are actually pushing yourself and getting better at it.The facility is well maintained and clean . This review is only for my experience with private sessions and Not group classes. Studio Blue is a classy and professional studio and is aesthetically pleasing. When I arrive to the studio for my private sessions, I am always greeted by the owner Joanne. She is always friendly, professional and very welcoming. I attend private sessions with Krista McCurdy. My private sessions are geared towards cervical and lumbar rehabilitation. The personal attention is exactly what I needed and my progress is very noticeable compared to the traditional clinical physical therapy I was involved in after my cervical spine surgery 10 months ago. I recommend this studio for private sessions if you are suffering from an injury, recovering from surgery or have certain physical limitations that make it difficult to participate in group classes. read more

This studio truly is "best of Portland." The Pilates from mat classes to reformer are just of the highest caliber. I started to go to the reformer classes about a year and a half ago, after mainly doing mat and yoga, and have not looked back. At first it seemed intimidating, but now I cannot get enough. The instructors are amazing, each and everyone of them has been highly professional and caring. My work with Audra and Wendi in group classes has been life changing. I tried this studio as a part of a open pass I had purchased. I decided to join the foam rolling class on Sunday. It was an experience. The instructor was incredibly knowledgeable and passed on information about how to appreciate your body as a whole entity. This class was very self regulated. The positions were explained and demonstrated then you utilized the platform as you saw fit. With a self guided mentality there was a margin of error. Perhaps after trying the class a few more times I will get the hang of it. I liked the layout of the studio, warm and welcoming to all. I felt great all day and the day after the class. Give it a try, you might surprise yourself. Just keep in mind this is not a cardio class, it's you taking care of you. read more

Found Studio Blue Pilates via Groupon. In the past 5 years I have done pilates at several different studios in several different states. I have experience with reformer & equipment and mat classes. The staff is friendly & responsive. Very prompt to return calls & emails. I thought the studio was easy to find, I walk there so parking isn't an issue. :) The studio itself is very warm & yummy feeling. It is small but you can be sure to get a spot in any class you are interested in by reserving your space ahead of time online, via email, or by calling. There are cubbies for personal items/shoes/etc. There is a changing room in the studio & there is a spacious, clean bathroom down the hall for use as well. The studio is spotless & well maintained. All the equipment you will need is in the studio, you don't even have to bring a mat! The instructors are fabulous. At the start of class they ask if any students have any injuries or trouble spots and they make modifications for those students when necessary. They don't teach from their mat, they get up, they walk thru the students & makes adjustments as necessary. An all level class is truly an all level class! There IS something for everyone. They are always willing to answer questions before, during, and after class. Speaking of "during class", I LOVE that their policy is, if you're late, you're not getting in! There's nothing more annoying than late students & the noise & commotion they create. The studio's cancellation policy is fair. As is their no refund policy. The students have been refreshingly friendly (it's not a snobby, clicky crowd) and their body sizes vary - from fit to fat, women & men, they're all having a great experience at Studio Blue Pilates! read more

I am new to the area and was looking for a studio to try that offered yoga / pilates or alternative workouts. I called Studio Blue and they offered me a free week pass to use as many times I wanted. Yay! I was able to make 3 classes: TRX twice and Pilates Sculpt. Tami is awesome in the TRX class. The classes are small (max 6 participants) and she was really able to accommodate any level. Even though I was new and hadn't done TRX in over a year, she set everything up for the class and explained as in detail as she needed to for everyone to feel comfortable. My obliques and abs were burning by the end and sore for days! Pilates Sculpt was also really great. Both classes incorporated yoga breathing and stretching which I really valued as it ties a lot of these classes together. I definitely recommend. Parking is difficult on weekends, but anywhere down 17th usually had 1 hour parking on the street. I am really looking forward to joining more mat sessions! read more

OK, I'm at Studio Blue because that's where I can take lessons from my Pilates instructor of choice: Ishbel Miller. So this is really a review of her. I've been taking yoga classes from Ishbel for months (in another venue) and have been so impressed with her approach, communication skills, competence and demeanor that, when I chose to get into Pilates, I sought her out as an instructor. Just starting there, but I'm just as impressed with her as a Pilates instructor as I am with her as a yoga instructor. All of this competence and ability in such a pleasant individual (that's the "gravy" or the "cherry on top", depending on your preferred gastronomical metaphor). I get bored easily. I can't justify joining a strictly just-yoga studio or Pilates studio because there isn't enough variety for me. I mean don't get me wrong-- I enjoy yoga, but I really can't take it 5x a week. I've been looking for a studio that offers a variety of classes. Studio Blue is the perfect option for me! Although this is a Pilates studio, there are several other optionsi including TRX, Springboard, bosu classes, and yoga. The staff at Studio Blue is awesome-- both the instructors and the staff that handles logistics. My schedule lines up the best with Keph so I've mostly taken his classes so far. He's awesome. Very Informative. I think he does a great job of pushing people to work out but is also very attentive to what's going on with your muscles and your body in general. My personal favorite classes (thus far): Bosu & Stability Ball classes and Pilates Sculpt. The studio uses an online registration system which is easy to use and let's face it people--you feel more accountable to go work out if you're on a list, right? Drop-in options are covenient for schedule changes, but it's easy to just skip. read more

I'm a huge fan of great customer service, and it seems to be so rare lately. Dan and Joanne have perfected customer service! I found them via Groupon, and I was afraid they would be swamped and inattentive to my questions. Not so! My first email was replied to within an hour, and I was ready to go for my first class. I really really love the online scheduling system. I can sign up for classes on my own and get on the waiting list if they are full. If you get off the waiting list Joanne calls you herself (if it's the same day) and you get an email. What a great system! I've done 3 different classes, and all are great. The studio is a little small (only holds 10), but I've grown to really like that. It is very peaceful, and the instructors work really hard to get to know each student (although I have to say I've taken the same class 4 times, and each time the instructor acts like she hasn't met me before - here's hoping today is the day she knows me!). I feel like the classes are challenging, but not impossible. I love Studio Blue and would highly recommend it! read more

I wish there were more stars to give. This place is amazing! Coming in to the studio for the first time I had absolutely zero experience when it came to Pilates and was a bit intimidated. However, everyone was super friendly, the instructors (specifically Keph & Ashley) were helpful and they made me feel extremely comfortable. The variety of classes that Studio Blue has to offer is a HUGE plus. I signed up for the monthly unlimited plan so I was able to do basically all classes except reformer and privates. TRX, Pilates sculpt, Pilates, Bosu, Springboard.... in my eight months of going to Studio Blue, I was never bored of my workouts. That never happens. I recently moved to Phoenix and what I miss most about Portland is Studio Blue and it's staff. I will definitely make it a point to drop in for a class whenever I'm in town next. I don't know what took me so long to review this place! I rarely work out anymore, my days of 2 hours at the gym, sadly are long over and it shows :( But the rare times when I do, it's usually the elliptical, the treadmill to pretend jog or to actually jog. I always loved pilates, I got a DVD while I was still a young lass and totally forgot all about it until one fateful day, the groupon was for the studio. I googled, they had a free week trial, well, I bought the groupon, it was only a $40 investment for a month of unlimited classes. I am gonna be a cheap bastard if I could be so I went in for a free week, LOVE LOVE LOVED my first Saturday class. Since then, I've been hooked. I'm kind of a lard ass right now and these classes aren't all easy but there isn't an air of pretension, you can go at your pace, but they all do push you. The mix is awesome, from as intense as the Sculpting classes that kick my butt to the Breathe classes that I take in the middle of the week to get over the week's hump, I think Pilates is my new crack. This is of course a testament to the phenomenal cadre of instructors. My body is constantly sore telling me that despite my soft outer shell, I got some muscles still working down there and carrying my body through life. The instructors helped me learn a bit more about my body as well. What's awesome is it's making me want to run again as I used to, it's kind of fabulous. for $90 per month for unlimited classes (with auto-pay), it's probably the best and the cheapest crack habit I can have! I think everything I like about Studio Blue boils down to the people who work here. Its genuine, personable customer service. They really get to know you and your body and take feedback seriously. I love the regular classes - there's something for every skill level, but I really have to throw a big thumbs up out there for the Booty Camp's. Yeah - It sounds like the ultimate chick workout, but my Muay Thai-fighting, football-playing boyfriend has been bringing his testosterone filled self to class for four months now and Tami is still whipping his ass into a puddle of sweat week after week. Not to mention, I have to go buy new workout pants because mine are starting to drop off every time we do jumping jacks... They offer a free UNLIMITED week to try it out. This place is as good as it gets: helpful instructors, challenging classes (no matter your level), and caring staff all around. I JUST asked if a specific class could be pushed back a half an hour so I could continue to come to it (last night) and they accommodated me today. So awesome. As someone with NO Pilates experience at all, only yoga, I can confidently say this is a great place to come and learn. The environment is nonthreatening or competitive in any way, shape or form. I've taken a class from most of the instructors and they are all caring, kind, and will absolutely make sure you get a good workout in at your level. As someone with multiple sports related injuries, it's pretty hard for me to find group classes that I can actually participate in. Thankfully, this is not the case at Studio Blue. I love this place. This is a great place to workout. I must admit at first I was a little unsure I really belonged - I usually lift weights to workout, I don't have any tattoos and I was often the only male in a class. Guess, what, none of that mattered. First off, the receptionists could not have been more welcoming and did a great job explaining everything to me. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable and make sure you are doing everything correctly, all equipment provided and the studio clean and always set at a good temperature. I knew when I was being called out on not being in proper form but they never did it directly! In the smaller classes like TRX (my favorite workout, limited to 6 people) and Springboard Pilates (limited to 8) you'd get individual attention. They also made sure to ask about any injuries and let you know when a certain position may aggravate it. The prices are very good as well. I did an unlimited for a month and it really paid off the more classes I did. Their on-line class registration system is also really convenient and they send email reminders before class. I've had to take a little break due to work commitments but can't wait to go back! read more

I bought the Groupon for a few different yoga/pilates studios in the city, and started out with Studio Blue. Let me tell you, they are AWESOME. I'm near the end of my month and I absolutely love it there; I'll be sad to move on to the next one! I've had classes with most of the teachers now and I've enjoyed all of them. Dan's Pilates Sculpt classes are a favorite, and Wendi's All Level classes are really fantastic too. It's hard sometimes to feel comfortable in a new "workout space," but Studio Blue makes it nice and easy. The staff is extremely welcoming and the classes never get routine. I would recommend these great folks to anyone, no matter your fitness level or pilates experience. read more

Let me start by saying that the people who run this studio are class acts. They truly care about their clients success and well being. I was seeing Anna and Wendi to address some chronic back pain. They were both so knowledgeable and really seemed to care about my experience. Unfortunately Pilates was not helping my pain, and aggravating it instead, so I had to call it quits. When I called the studio I had no expectation of a refund for the packages I had purchased, but Jen immediately called me back and refunded everything I hadn't used. Studio Blue has been the missing, and MAGICAL, puzzle piece to my journey of physical recovery. My manual transmission's shifter was on the dash, and the vehicle did a number on my shoulder girdle, tightening it up to new heights. Chiropractors, rolfers, massage therapists and acupuncturists had loosened it up to the point that it was a bit TOO loosey goosey. Private sessions at Studio Blue are changing my life, and my body! Working with Nicole is opening up the stuck spots, and strengthening/lengthening those that are weak. I have a regular here for years, but recently added a Classpass to up my workouts and learn about other options in the city. After trying about over a dozen other studios, I have to say that Studio Blue has the best teachers anywhere -- for beginners, intermediate or advanced students. Studio Blue is so welcoming, they are honest and hard working in their business, and not shoved into some single corporate model. Dan is a master teacher, and the others are so well trained that you can really trust them to help you get/stay in shape and learn about the best ways to move and take care of your body. If you are five minutes late the front desk will turn you away, even if you've been traveling on trimet for an hour to Try and get there. "it will disturb the students!" oh my aren't we yuppies! No sweat, the studio is tiny and I'm not conviced that their class schedule is worth paying for as it's completely sparse and you need to reserve a Spot in their tiny studio for attendance. Tried this studio for their free week offering. Pilates here was great and not so great depending on the instructor I got. Kef (sp?) was great but I didn't appreciate his answer when I asked about how to learn to breathe properly. He told me not to worry about it initially until I had did it more regularly. While I can understand where he is coming from, that philosophy just didn't jive with me. Pilates fundamentals are learning to breathe and obtain core strength through pelvic stability before anything else. Regardless, Kef was my favorite instructor of the three I tried. I became a regular since February of last year because of Keph and Dan. Their knowledge about the posture and body movement is phenomenal. I've done yoga, tennis, swimming in the past all for many years, and out of all the instructors, these two are the best. I just cant find time and effort for any other sports, so i seeked yoga and pilates, but studio blue pilates won me over. Please communicate with them about any pains, and they will modify for you. I have been going here for almost a year and the benefits have been outstanding. I work on my feet all day as a hair stylist and I seriously feel 10 years younger. My core is strong and the classes have worked out muscles I did not even know I had. I feel more flexible and strong. This is not a snobby place, all ages and sizes. My Dr. recommended I try Yoga or Pilates as a low-impact way to get into shape and shed some unwanted pounds. This was the 2nd studio I tried, and I'm really glad I gave them a shot! They offer your first week free, and mats and props are provided which is perfect for a true beginner like me. I've taken 3 classes so far with 3 different teachers, and everyone has just been wonderful. I'm wretchedly out of shape, and have no idea what I'm doing, but the instructors are so caring, understanding and helpful that I'm sure both of those things will change soon! I was worried that I'd feel insecure or out-of-place as a chubby beginner who hasn't worked out in WAY too long, but everybody has been really supportive, and, while the classes are a workout, they really encourage you to work within your own limitations. I've never actually enjoyed exercise before, but now I see what I've been missing! I really just can't compliment them enough- I've been raving about how wonderful they are to anyone who will listen! I've been attending pilates classes at Studio Blue for over a year and a half. I also have been practicing yoga for over thirty years. Coming to Studio Blue was an eye opener. Under the caring watch of the many excellent professionals, especially Nicole Wells, I have found muscles that I didn't know existed and have begun to move in a more relaxed and fluid way that is gentle to the body and elegant. The classes (both mat and reformer) are fun, challenging and ultimately very fulfilling.
