I've wanted my nose pierced for some time now and on a vacation to St Johns I finally worked up the courage to get it done. No rhyme or reason as to how I ended up at Studio Maxx- I tried yelping piercing shops however none of them had ratings or reviews. Studio Maxx was on the top 5 list though so it warranted a Google search. They have a very easy to read/informative website which I enjoyed- the other place I debated going actUally lost out on my business because of their terrible website or lack there of. As far as finding the place- I found it a little difficult. Getting to the location was easy (map app for the win!!) but it isn't one of the front shops in the plaza and I actually had to make a few loops around the area until I finally saw their sign. Once you find it you go inside to find a stairwell, up you climb and voila you're there! Once inside you notice how spacious and tidy it is. Painted a nice sassy shade of red you find a large waiting area furnished with delightfully cozy leather seats and sofas. To the left is the reception area which was a very busy place between phone calls for appointments and people walking in to make appointments. This speaks well for business so that was a plus! (Also note these guys are booked welllllllll in advance so if you need work of a time consuming nature to be done- make sure you call ASAP!) I also noticed that a lot of people were returning customers asking for their artist by name. I really enjoyed that kind of dedication. Back to reception- once I got to speak with the guy at the desk he asked me what I wanted done. I told him a nose piercing. Immediately he asked me to verify my age and even made me produce ID *noting that I am well over the age of consent. From there I filled out a very ground covering intake form. The guy working the desk was super nice and got lots of information. I was a walk in so I knew wait time could vary and there were a few other people ahead of me. Ready to be in it for the long haul- I wasn't there 15 minutes and I got called in. I got pierced by Allan. He was AWESOME! He explained the entire procedure very thoroughly and even placed a dot on where he was going to put it to make sure I liked the location. Being my first piercing I had a ton of questions regarding pain to which he assured me it wouldn't be bad. He grabbed the supplies from a cupboard *I would like to note how CLEANLY this place this. I was so impressed. Right down to spraying down the chair you sit in. All the supplies from the cupboard were packaged and sealed to be used only once. Even the clamp which in my opinion is something that could probably be sterilized but I was super impressed/appreciative of it. He set me up and before I knew it it was over. 99% painless and I had a nose ring :) I was so excited! After the piercing he was EXTREMELY thorough as to how to properly care for it to avoid infection. I got the saline spray (vegan and paraben free- yay!) and he gave me a sheet with how to care tips. Told me I could call him anytime and away I went. I was so impressed with Studio Maxx! I've been wanting to get my nose pierced for a year now and finally decided to do it. Called to make the appointment and we got in the very next day! the guys are super chill and friendly and there was only a couple minute waiting time. I was walked through the process and shown different options before getting pierced and then the piercing itself was a bit painful of course but only for a second, before leaving we bought some spray for my nose so it don't get infected and was given a little guide with all the information i need to keep my piercing clean and free from infection :) It was a little pricey but that is mostly because I got the more expensive option for my piercing and the spray itself was $20 but overall a good experience! I have a blue pen mark on my nose from when he marked where to pierce me but that will go away tmrw after i put some spray on it anyways haha read more

All around unprofessional. There might be some talent there in a couple of artists, but the attitude there seems to be that the client doesnt matter, but if they can make a quick buck off of you, they will. I dont know if its management, the owners, or the artists, but the place doesnt care about its clients or their bodies... I loved the sign they had hung up inside the waiting area, "Dont Pass Out". Shows the professionalism to expect here. Maybe Studio Maxx should show an ounce of compassion, its the clients that are putting up their trust and their money, maybe you should take care of them?? Got a piercing there when i was younger and they were downtown, that went fine. Since then ive gone in looking for a tattoo for myself, first one. Called up, went in, saw the lady at the front, but apparently I was an inconvenience to the available artist. Showed him a picture of the subject matter I was interested in and he just threw up his arms "well by' I dunno if I can do that, I dont know how I would tattoo that" It was a simple space theme. I diidnt have any concrete idea and I was ok with whatever artistic flourish. But he just didnt want to talk to me. Some other artists chimed in and said they could look another time, and he finally said "well i suppose I can do it by', but I dont know how it will turn out"... so I noped out of there. Last (and final) time I went there was for my wife. Tattoo. Long story short they lost her appointment. There were 4 or 5 artists sitting around drawing and chatting, but again it was a massive inconvenience to them just to speak with us in the slightest (even though the only reason I was there was for an appointment that they lost). One of them finally took some initiative and asked my wife what she was looking for, said she would call us in a couple of days. 2 weeks later we got the tattoo (a $1300 piece) at another shop and I still have yet to here back from that artist at Studio Maxx. Avoid this place like the plague. Seriously, go to another shop. read more

Awful experience. We booked an appointment with Mike for noon, to have a consultation to have our ring fingers tattooed. A special romantic occasion. We received a confirmation email saying the appointment is at 11:45. We arrived at 11:40, but the studio was closed - they don't open until noon. We checked in with the receptionist and she asked us to take a seat. At 12:15 we checked back and she said Mike wasn't there - he usually doesn't come in until around 12:15 and doesn't start working until 12:30. And even if he saw us for the initial consultation, he would not be able to do the tattoos for at least a month. We won't be back. read more

I've had a few tattoos and a couple piercings done at Studio Maxx. Fred has been my tattoo artist. I think he's an absolute riot! I think we have a good rapport, but his humor may not be for everyone. As far as the work goes, I love what he's done for me. I've given him creative license to come up with something, and I've been very pleased each time. As far as the piercing went, the gentleman piercing, I can't remember his name for the life of me, but he was awesome too. Very sweet guy, knowledgeable, good bedside manor. Piercings here are cheap in price but not in quality. I will continue to get modified here! read more

Writing this review on behalf of my mother. She had an appointment booked through Studio Maxx with Sean to have a small piece completed. She gave a deposit for her date and waited a month to get in. Today, she showed up for her appointment time and was told by the front desk staff that Sean was in doing someone elses tattoo and would be there until close. They argued with her that she was not booked for that time until she showed them her confirmation email from Sean which shut them up. My mother then said if she wasn't going to get her tattoo completed at this time, that she would like her money back (a reasonable request since the service wasn't being provided for the deposit she paid). They asked Sean and he was not willing to return the deposit. He wouldn't even come out to talk to my mother to discuss this issue. My mother waited for 30 minutes until the boss agreed to return her deposit to appease her. She is completely disgusted with the service she received and would not recommend to anyone. read more

I went to Studio Maxx today to get a vertical labret. It was very clean and very professional. Quick form to fill out and the wait wasn't very long. My tattooist was very friendly and quite hilarious. He took his time to understand what I wanted and didn't rush through the process, unlike many other tattoo shops. (My first standard labret ended up in the wrong spot because the tattooist -- different place-- was rushing me and rushing himself to get onto the next customer.) So this made me very happy with the service. The piercing didn't hurt to get done at all. A little pricey but worth it. The only thing I didn't like about the place, was after I got it as I was paying, the receptionist was going on about how she had never seen a vertical labret on the side of the lip and how she didn't really like it. Which I thought was sort of rude. You know, don't complain about what someone else did to their body when you're getting their business right.
