We came with a large group of people due to a family trip (20+ people) with a reservation and the restaurant was well prepared for us. They were able to serve 20+ adults quickly and efficiently, which speaks to the long experience of the service and kitchen staff. Extra star for completing that feat alone! The pork hock was well cooked, very tender and a generous portion for one. If you have a smaller appetite, I would recommend sharing one between two people as the massive amount of meat and fat can be too much for one person. Our plate also had veggies, coleslaw and mash potatoes also. The restaurant is very old and it has some charming relics placed around. Unfortunately the charm does not extend to the washroom, which could really use an update.

Look for specialties like rouladen, schnitzel, sauerbraten and more. Since it is close to the holidays they have a roast duck special for the month of December (yum!). Prices are very reasonable and service is friendly and knowledgeable. They also are licensed so lots of options for beer, wine etc. We had the duck and schnitzel. Soooo good. The duck came with red cabbage and potato patties. The schnitzel came with home fries and steamed vegetables ( although you could have spatzle if you liked). Please note that even though their online menu shows a variety of salads for those who want lighter fare - the menu handed to us did not show those options. My friend was however able to order a Caesar salad with a grilled chicken breast which she said was wonderful. Her hubby had the rouladen. All the meals were great. We were covering the Black Forest cake at the end but could not do it ( the portions being very generous) so we took some slices to go! Great choice as it was delicious. Our reservation was at 6P. We left at 5P. It took us 35 minutes. Great meal. Started with the goulash. The beef had been pounded and was small and tender like the potatoes and carrots. I opted for minor spicy. It was served very hot and was perfect. We've had goulash at Grundel in Hungary, and this was comparable. We both had the pork wienerschnitzel, which came with fried potatoes and a smidge of red cabbage. The pork was divine. We've had wienerschnitzel across Central Europe, and this one was perfection. The sprinkle of dill added a nice mild tang (great touch). The portion of pork was not huge, but you get plenty of taters. My lovely had the apple strudel for dessert. I had the crepe stuffed with jam. Both were incredible. I paired mine with the Viennese coffee, which could have been served a bit hotter. It was tasty, though. I also had the berry spritzer and a shot of apricot brandy. The first was refreshing; the second didn't taste very apricoty. Parking is immediately in front of this gem. Wonderful meal expertly prepared. A bit pricey, but worth every penny. Highly recommend.

Since it's in WNY where there isn't much Deutsch komphetitzhun (Ulrich's being the only other one I can think of), it scores a healthy 4. This place is better than Ulrich's. It's not as interesting, or old and historic, but it's more romantic if you want to bring a date. The prices are comparable. And while genuine Germans among you may exclaim "Das Ist Nicht Gut!", for the rest of us, the food here is quite enjoyable. Edit: looks like this German restaurant is gone? I'm not sure what the Angry Buffalo is. But it may have taken the German restaurant's place. If so, that is very sad news.
