My son was helping me clean up my house. We trimmed a large shrub near my front steps but couldn't cut it down with manual tools or a small chainsaw. The wood was too dense. The stump was about a foot in diameter. My son talked to Jacob and told him he was leaving the next day and would like to get the stump removed. He squeezed us in the next day. Arrived and first used a big chainsaw to cut the stump down within a foot of the ground. Then he unloaded a self propelled grinder. It had a big circular blade with 4 teeth. He moved it back and forth across the face of the stump and it shredded the stump into sawdust! Very impressive. In less than 30 minutes from arrival, Jacob was done. I used Jeff 10 years ago and was l lucky to locate his contact info for my gigantic rhododendron cluster-stump. Jeff and the new owner, Jacob, came over less than 12 hours after I emailed to request a bid. They gave a fair price for grinding up the rhododendron stump and were able to do the work in the same trip. They walked the property and offered to add-on two other stumps for a very reasonable fee. Jeff was easy to work with and got the job done well. I would have given him 5 stars if it wasn't so expensive. To be fair, he was very transparent with his fees and communicated it with me in advance. He told me he charged by the size of the stump not by hour. When he gave me a quote of $325, I felt that it was slightly more expensive than other quotes that I had, but he could do the grinding immediately, so I went with it. I didn't know the job would take less than an hour. If I had known, I would have gone with another guy that quoted $200 per hour (irrespective of stump size). read more

Contacted Jeff from a neighbor's recommendation. He replied back asking for my address and said the day he was available to stop by for the inspection estimate and if he was able to take care of it right then. Our stump was an old Pine tree that was at least 50" in diameter that had turned punky and soft. He called upon arrival and was able to take care of it that day. However, due to the need to remove a chain link fence before the work could be completed, I expected the last portion of the grind to be factored into the total price ($1100 for 3 stumps). He stated he would need to charge MORE to finish the job. I went with another vendor (Domum Home Services) for a different project and they completed the stump grind at NO charge. I have had Jeff perform a few jobs for me in the past and he does a great job every time. He is punctual and very nice. He uses quality equipment to get the job done right..He gets the whole root ball unlike other service providers I've used in the past who only scrape down to the surface and cover. He makes a point to ask questions regarding site conditions, whether we are planting or not in the space he is working in. He uses plywood blocking so wood chips don't go into the neighbors property as well as helping control the debris. We had the site marked for utilities as that was helpful for Jeff. We also had a sprinkler head right next to one of the stumps, he didn't even scratch it! Jeff also left one of the grinded stumps to show how deep he went.
