My neighbor and I hired Western Hemlock Tree & Stump Removal to do selective pruning on a shared Western white pine, and the result was devastating. We agreed to pruning after a branch had previously fallen on my neighbor's house, so we wanted the work done responsibly and according to an arborist's recommendations. The tree is also classified as a Tier 2 tree under Seattle code (previously called an "exceptional tree"), which made it even more important that the pruning be done carefully and conservatively. Before any work was done, I hired an arborist to evaluate the tree and provide a report, which was referenced in the contract. Unfortunately, it became obvious afterward that they either never read the report or completely ignored its recommendations. The tree was massively overtrimmed and heavily underskirted to the point that it now looks mutilated. I am genuinely depressed every time I look at it. What was once a beautiful mature tree now looks stripped and unnatural. The company never communicated with us directly before doing the work and instead coordinated only with my neighbor while I was out of town. At no point did they review the plan with us, discuss the arborist recommendations, or confirm the scope of pruning before cutting. To their credit, they did provide a partial refund afterward, but it does not make up for the irreversible damage done to the tree or the distress this has caused. I called Western Hemlock Tree and Stump Service to clean up and remove some sickly trees we had in our yard. Alex was able to make it out pretty quickly to get me an estimate. He looked at some large fir trees another company had told me needed to come down and confirmed that they did not need to be removed, just pruned for some dead/dying branches. In addition to the trees, we also had a log bridge over our small goldfish pond that was becoming hazardous that I wanted removed. I was surprised at how fair his quotes were for both projects and decided to move forward. Overall we couldn't be happier, the yard is looking way better after his crew cleaned up the trees and I feel like our pond area is much safer for our young kids and their friends. For some reason, someone thought it would be a great idea to plant two poplars in our backyard long ago. Fast forward and I had two massive ugly poplar trees in my backyard that I could only think of the damage they'd cause if they fell. 120ft trees side by side about 15 feet from the house. I have never gotten a tree removed and figured it would be an expensive job so I lined up about 6 or 7 quotes to get an idea. Brandon came out from Western Hemlock as the first quote we received, and we told him we were waiting on a few more quotes. He kept checking in and asking how he could earn our business. Eventually we got to a solid price vs the field and he assured me they would take care of everything expertly. They did. And it just so happened to be the day before the bomb cyclone knocked power out all over the city and trees fell left and right. That was my nightmare scenario but we managed to avoid it, a stroke of luck. Only because the western hemlock team knew the storm was coming and worked overtime to get the trees down ahead of time. I didn't pay for emergency service or expedition or anything they just recognized the scenario and took care of business. Timing aside, these trees were very tall and my backyard very small. Not much wiggle room for them. Yet they took them down meticulously, managing to not damage a single thing, lawn aside. (Note for anyone getting any major trees removed with lawn surrounding, you're going to need new lawn. I didn't anticipate this but it makes sense with literal urban logging lol) Anyway over four days they got two humongous trees out of my backyard, through a walkway along the side of my house, and chipped and hauled away. TL;DR: Took two huge trees out of a confined space without a fuss. No surcharges or hidden taxes or costs or whatever. We agreed to a price and they did the job excellently. The two maples were significantly taller/bigger than my house and had been there for over 22 years. After interviewing several tree removal services, I chose Western Hemlock because they offered a comprehensive end-to-end service. They assisted with the permitting process for a nominal fee, which was a significant advantage as other companies either charged much more or did not handle permitting at all. Given my full-time job, I needed a company that could manage everything. The sales contact, Brandon, was incredibly knowledgeable about tree removal and provided detailed explanations of the process, including the permitting requirements for my city. I also appreciated that the bid/contract included pictures and detailed instructions, ensuring that the crew knew exactly what to do. Brandon included my concerns about debris falling on the neighbor's side in the contract and specified the "precaution...slow rigging", which made me feel heard as a customer. The pricing was reasonable. Other companies wanted anywhere from 25-50% more and weren't even full service. There were a couple companies that were cheaper, but they didn't handle permitting or chipping and removal, which would have ultimately cost the same after hiring additional services. There was a minor issue with scheduling that caused a bit of inconvenience. We have a 100+ yo large leaf maple that really needed a good trim, crowning and pruning. The team have been phenomenal, from the start of getting an online inquiry and hearing back from Chelsea the office manager within 24 hours or so, to having Mathew a certified arborist come out and provide a quote (which was very reasonable and fair) and finally having Isiah and team come out and getting the job done in a very timely manner! Alex and his employees were great. I would highly recommend their service for tree removal and stump grinding. I was really impressed with their professionalism and the safety guidelines they followed when they were removing our trees. Both trees were 90-100 feet tall and near a busy street. The crew foreman Jesus showed up on time and went over the plan as layed out originally by Alex. He made sure the job would be done safely and to our satisfaction. Everyone wore bright green gear and helmets, placed orange cones where needed, and communicated effectively. The job was done in one day, including grinding down two stumps, even though it was raining halfway through the job. This company is the best! The owner, Alex, gave us an extremely fair estimate for removal of 7 trees, the associated root balls, and trimming the remaining tree in our back yard. In addition they contoured our entire back yard to ensure proper water drainage and prepped it for installation of a new fence.
