Behind the High Street of this small Dorset village is a lovely friendly 9 hole golf course locally known as 'The Little Gem'.
There is a mixture of par 3 and par 4 holes with enough interesting hazards, including a lake,to keep the average golfer on his/her toes.
There are Children's and Ladies' Academies for those who want formal lessons with Mike, the resident Kiwi pro and a driving range which is free but you have to collect your own balls.
The club house is small but has changing rooms with showers, a small shop,a bar and a kitchen which serves basic snacks all at reasonable prices.
The atmosphere is friendly and unpretentious and Thomas Hardy would feel at home with the accents of the elderly gents eating a late breakfast after a congenial 9 holes.
It's open to the public and reasonably priced at £10 for 9 holes and £15 for 18. read more
