Mark Hand has got to be the worst attorney ever for family law. Don't ever hire him for a child…read morecustody case. The only contact you will have is with his legal assistant and then all the person does is apologize to you because they know he hasn't touched your case. He drags things out for months at a time instead of working towards final orders, essentially just bringing in more money for himself. I had the unfortunate circumstance of dealing with a severely overzealous Aurora police officer, something I'm sure many have sadly had to deal with (nationwide), and ended up being given a completely false charge simply because I got in an argument with this officer. He of course didn't charge me with "arguing with a police officer" so he came up with a BS one instead. That put me, a medically retired veteran of the USAF with PTSD, through exuberantly high levels of stress for no good reason, and the charge he gave me (via summons) carried a possible penalty of a year in jail! I had lost all hope when dealing with the Aurora "justice" system that night... until I had the fortunate experience of finding this law office. Mr. Joseph Galera, Esq., is the lawyer recommended by the law office to handle my case, and within a few hours of taking him on as my attorney, I already felt I had made the right choice. He is a completely "all-business" type of person (while not being someone who isn't listening to your concerns though too) who makes sure he's always focusing on the most important aspects of his cases. He ensured to get every single document/file he could about my case from the city, before the City Attorney even had a chance to request some of the same material. But, best of all: he shattered the absolutely preposterous case put forward by the City of Aurora... and with *only* cross-examination (along with opening and closing statements) he was able to shred the entirety of every single accusation made against me by the prosecution while the jury watched. It was seriously one of the best ways I've ever seen a lawyer handle their client/case, and I myself used to be an Officer of the Court in Louisiana for 3 years (as a CASA/Guardian ad Litem)... so that statement does not come from inexperience. Mr. Galera is more than worth the cost of his services. I simply could not recommend anyone use any other defense attorney, if they have to deal with the court systems in the Denver-Aurora metro. I am in serious need of a lawyer for a probate dispute and the only way to hire Chris is to pay a $250 for an hour rate to discuss the case. Feeling he would be a good fit I went for it. First, he got on the call late. Then, the first 30-40 minutes was spent going through tedious explanations of the the family tree - which not relevant at all to my questions about the case at all. "So this aunt is related to the guy in what way?" I asked several times to please just condense - as this part of the exact family tree was not in dispute. He refused and said it was important. Additionally, he kept forgetting what I just said "So, wait, this person is who's brother?" etc. It was driving me crazy - yet I felt trapped by his clock. How many times can ask to skip it. By the time he allowed me to get to the actual issue, I was told repeatedly how busy he was and how a case like this would require a $10,000 retainer. Again, he let me know how small his bandwidth was and this type of case would be really hard for him to fit in. I see it as a standard case. At about the 50 minute mark we were getting to the questions I wanted legal advise on. It reached over the hour - but since there was so much BS - I figured we were still within the $250. Wrong. Ultimately, Chris Mahre is too busy for my case without a huge retainer - but said he hoped to have shed some light for me. I said he did not. There was nothing new he brought to the table that was helpful. That is not an exaggeration. Free consultations from other lawyers gave me more info - and at least it felt like they were a fair attempt from both sides to find a match. This felt like I was a complete "sucker" expedition and I lost. He charged me for every second - $375.00 total for his time and money for a family who desperately needs a lawyer and does not have much budget to spend let alone waste. I hope this warning helps someone not go through what we did for a consultation. I do not feel good writing this - but feel worse paying his inflated worthless bill.
