Wow, what an absolutely awful experience. The home, at first glance, is beautiful. But as days went by, everything started to unravel. Large deliveries, pest control appearing unannounced, and verbal attacks and accusations from the homeowner. The pool/hot tub system is incredibly complex, and the homeowner was insulting and belittling when we didn't understand. When we called Style Vacation Homes for support, the woman we spoke with was incredibly unhelpful, rude and dismissive. For shelling out $10k+, you'd think that the host and Style would be a bit kinder and more accommodating. So disappointing. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM STYLE VACATION HOMES! The company and its proprietor, Louis Shaw, are predatory and unscrupulous and will seek any excuse to withhold your security deposit. I have rented many homes all over the world, have always been respectful of owner's property and been a model tenant. I have never once had to deal with the level of greed and unreasonableness as Louis Shaw has demonstrated in his treatment of home renters. Our home at 50 Commercial St in Provincetown was left in excellent condition and relations with the property management company had been cordial up until and including our exit. The home was beautiful and we left it in the same condition we found it. There were no complaints and no communication of any issues that could have been rectified during the course of our stay. However, when it came time to return the security deposit, Louis refused, citing an afterthought section of the contract stipulating no guests allowed in the home after a certain time. We were swindled out of a $2000 security deposit on a technicality (other technicalities in the contract that would constitute non-refund even included "moving furniture"! The language is so overly broad, no one can hope to comply). How did Louis even know that a guest was in the home after the arbitrary hour? The only explanation is that the home is under constant surveillance - so check any reasonable expectations of privacy at the door before you rent through this company. However, given our earlier cordial exchanges, we thought that any reasonable landlord would be sensitive to the technicality and instead focus on the condition we left the home - which was excellent by both our account and theirs. After all, the true rationale for even charging a security deposit is to cover damages to the property and provide the renter with a sense of ownership so they treat the home as they would treat their own. However, Louis doubled down in his responses to us with a nasty, condescending and unprofessional response. His actions and subsequent demeanor is indicative of a sad, pathetic, greedy man with no understanding of customer service, no sense of fairness and a badly out of tune moral compass. Do not patronize this man or his business when there are so many other good options available. read more

I was fortunate enough to rent a Style Vacation Homes property in Provincetown for my most recent trip to Cape Cod, and I couldn't be happier with the experience! First of all, we loved 50 Commercial Street. The owner of Style Vacation Homes is also an interior designer. We heard that he assisted the homeowner in completing the look and functionality of the home. The result was not only beautiful, it was extremely practical. The home was completely stocked with everything we needed, and the layout was perfect. We had a family gathering for Thanksgiving, and we found the kitchen to be stocked with everything we needed and more. The staff at Style checked in on us the day after we arrived to make sure everything was in order. There was a short power outage in town later that evening, and Louis from Style located some battery-powered LED lights for us, which we really appreciated. We have found other vacation home management companies to be uninvolved after payment was received, but that was not the case for the team at Style. They were very responsive from beginning to end, and even facilitated the return of our security deposit. I would use Style Vacation Homes again in a heartbeat. I have already recommended them highly to my friends. read more

My family and I have been renting in LBI for many years and have always had wonderful experiences (check out G Anderson LBI - they're awesome to deal with). Rented a home on the Bay Side in Brant Beach this year. Communication is timely and professional. That being said, you will only want to rent from this group if you enjoy the high probability, like others who have posted on here, of wrongly losing your security deposit. Thankfully ours was only $500, but total nonsense about the reason. They claimed we broke/stole a railing which was not on the property when we checked in (despite showing a dated and time stamped picture that didn't have the best angle of the missing railing) they charged us $150 for it anyway. We were also charged $200 for a cleaning of a hot tub which was not in great shape when we checked in. We were shown a list of comments from the cleaners to justify the extra cleaning charge and lo and behold it said "bathroom showed heavier use than normal". I am sincerely thankful that our deposit was not more than the $500 because i have no doubt they would have tried to steal the rest of it. We left the house in excellent condition and i took pictures to show. That won't save you, they will still steal your deposit. Good luck if you choose to do so, but you've been warned about renting from here. Horrible experience. Read the other reviews, I know what some of those folks went through. EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS!!!! from start to finish, I was so impressed with Lou Shaw's Style Vacation Homes. The process was simple and they thought of everything in advance-the i's are dotted and the T's are crossed. The property in Provincetown was stunning and location perfect. The property manager answered every question and everything was clearly marked and layed-out. If the sheer beauty of the house was not enough, we were treated the next morning with a basket of delicious pastries, complimentary of the house! We'll be back next year! read more

RENTER BEWARE - Style Vacation Homes is a predatory vacation rental property manager. This company will falsify information in "incident reports" in order to wrongfully WITHHOLD LARGE PORTIONS OF YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT! Unfortunately, we stayed at a Style Vacation Homes property earlier this summer. Upon arrival, the home was filthy and one of the two bathrooms was unusable due to an old rusty shower rod that had fallen prior to our arrival. Further, there was not enough sheets and blankets provided to cover the bare, filthy mattresses that we arrived to. What's even more frustrating is that after our departure the company fabricated a ridiculous incident report and assigned egregious prices for item's we, as renters staying over a two day period, should not have been responsible for. For starters - we were charged $50 of our security deposit to replace the old rusty shower rod that we found laying in the bathtub upon our arrival. Not only were we inconvenienced by not being able to use one bathroom, we also had to pay to fix damages we arrived to! Also, a new shower rod of the quality they had is about $20. Secondly - we were charged $50 for dry cleaning because we used the little bedding they provided along with pillows and blankets they provided! 3rd - We were charged $55 to replace an old, beat up mattress pad because they claimed we had ripped it. A 10 year old mattress pad ripping is normal wear and tear, and further - they cost about $10 to actually replace. Lastly - We were charged $50 to repair a door we did no damage to! Do not book with this company!!! I booked a weekend at a rental property of theirs on Homeaway.com. After the initial booking, I was informed that the cost for the weekend would actually be $400 more because "the owner would not accept that rate in the off season". Which doesn't make sense since it's the off-season and she is making money on renting out her home for a weekend. I went ahead with the booking anyway since my family needed a place to stay for a family wedding. I received an email the week leading up to our stay with check-in instructions, and a section that said "Check Out Instructions" with nothing there. After researching through old emails, I came across the contract and made sure we followed what was expected of us. We made sure the house was nice and clean (cleaner than when we even checked in), made the beds with the comforters and pillows, and took all the linens and towels and piled them in the hamper in the laundry room. We checked out before our 10am checkout (since it was made clear there would be NO late checkouts). A few days later, I received notice that $225 of our $1000 security deposit was being withheld because we "used the linens and didn't wash them ourselves". I went back through the paperwork and responded to Style Vacation Homes that there was nothing stating we had to clean the linens ourselves. They responded back that there was a note posted where the linens were kept. I let them know that out of the 13 people who stayed there, not one person saw any note. It also had said linens were provided on the booking page. After 5 days with no response, I messaged Style Vacation Homes again asking if there was someone I could speak to about this before leaving a review. Later that day, Louis Shaw, the owner of SVH called to speak to me about the linens. He said the owner was upset because she ended up spending 5 hours doing the linens herself before her family came into town to stay. I told him, if it were CLEARLY stated somewhere that the linens needed to be cleaned, we would have done so. Even if it meant us getting up BEFORE 5am to start since we were forced to checkout no later than 10am and apparently it would have also taken us 5 hours to clean them. I stated we made sure the house was in excellent condition and he said, "the owner did say the house was left perfectly cleaned." He said he told the owner "let's give them back the $225 and we can use this as a learning experience". I thanked him for the understanding and mentioned I think it would have been extremely helpful to have a Welcome Binder with this type of information for guests so there isn't any confusion in the future. I also told him I would mention how professionally this was handled in my review on Homeaway.com. We ended our conversation talking about other rental properties and what I thought was on good terms. I left my thorough review (4/5 on Homeaway) and said how there was some confusion about check-out, but it was handled professionally. I then receive an email with my review. 2/5 overall. 1/5 cleanliness. 1/5 for house rules. 2/5 communication. Are you kidding me?! Here I am being nice in leaving my review on Homeaway, trying to brush aside the fact they were going to charge me $225 for laundry that the owner washed herself, after demanding us checkout by 10am and IT WAS STATED IN THE BOOKING PAGE, and then they go ahead and give me such a low rating? And then give us a 1/5 for cleanliness after the owner had said we left the house in such a clean state she just thought we didn't do the laundry because of the early checkout time? On the phone Louis Shaw was so nice and then this happens? And even it was the homeowner who left the review, it comes up as Louis Shaw of Style Vacation Homes as leaving the review. Now I have a 2/5 rating which will make it extremely hard for me to book anything on Homeaway.com in the future. So therefore, I decided to come here and leave my HONEST review of them. So unless you want to deal with BS, don't use this company AT ALL! They are liars. read more

I do not recommend nor trust Style Vacation Homes, Louis Shaw or anyone working for him. When we were signing a lease for a rental I had to call several times over the span of a few weeks regarding our contract. It was nearly impossible to get someone on the phone or to return my calls, which was extremely frustrating. I should have known better and should have found another place/rental company. Unfortunately, things got worse. At the conclusion of our stay we had some major discrepancies with the homeowner we rented from regarding our security deposit. Louis and his employees claimed they would try and rectify the situation and find a solution to please both parties. Instead, they ignored my e-mails and calls and I ended up losing half my security deposit for absurd reasons. I found a beautiful rental on VRBO, through whom I have rented several times, and my inquiries were directed to Style Vacation Homes by Louis Shaw. Both websites included in the amenities a hot tub, and both showed pictures of an open , bubbling hot tub. During my stay on Mother's Day weekend, the hot tub was full of mold and mildew, no water at all! Nor was the property ready for my visit, as it seemed the owner didn't know we were coming...The grill was filthy, the deck was full of gardening items instead of the lounge chairs featured in the website photos. When the owner and her daughter came to clean up the grill and the deck, they were rude to my family, claiming we had come too early. Not according to the contract I signed 5 months earlier. When I made Louis Shaw aware of the conditions, he claimed the hot tub wasn't open before "the season", and admitted his concierge had made a "big mistake" in telling me the hot tub would be open for my stay. He further stated that the owner was elderly and confused, hence the lack of preparedness of the property. My question for Louis is, who is responsible for providing the items spelled out in the contract I signed with Style Vacation Homes? Louis has not responded to my several communications to him. I am deeply dissatisfied and disappointed, as some acknowledgement and ownership on the part of Style Vacation Homes would have undoubted brought a different conclusion to this matter.
