Really, really disappointing. For some reason, they can't seem to keep a business running. The clothing itself is nice, a little over priced ($30+ for a petticoat?) but still nice. Some clothes are pretty chuegy and copy and paste (things you'd find on amazon or hot topic) though other items like the train veil skirt are amazing! But the issue is... They can't seem to keep the business open. Visited first time December 2021 and it was nice, but since then i've never been able to go again??? Visited December 2023- almost everything was gone from the mall, few things left. Most racks were gone besides a few things that looked like Windsor homecoming dresses. Now visiting again in June 2023 and the store is... gone until August? I drive 2 hours to get here for nothing, it's really annoying. There aren't many good alternative clothing stores in florida and subculture was one of them. Supply is small but demand is plenty, how is business bad? I mean in 7 months i would have assumed subculture would have moved locations, not temporarily closed. Go to ravens and rockers in Lake Magdalene instead, more options and even a thrift section. They have tripp nyc all the way to bodyline, good range for all styles. read more

I always feel welcome when I'm at Subculture. The same staff has been helping me for years, so I believe this company treats their employees well. The staff is always encouraging, but never pushy. The store has expanded its offerings over time to include some club heel selections and other club wear, which I appreciate. Btw, I love that they carry pantyhose and stockings that fit larger women properly. There's nothing like having a supacute dress paired with a set of muffin tops on your thighs. Avoid that by grabbing a great pair sold by Subculture. After asking for many years about swimwear, they are still not carrying any. Clearly, this is not a deal breaker because I can't stay out of this store! Also, they offer discounts to educators and veterans. read more

I shopped here for the first time the other day. I was looking for some tights. They had a cute pair ofCyhi that had sticky on the inside which helps them not meeting garters. I also got a pair of tight with cut out on the size and butt area. Super comfortable and great for girls with a larger hips and butt. All the girls working very sweet and helpful. They were very knowledgeable and helpful out in the siding. I got to talk to Lisa for a little bit and she was very delightful. Great personality and attitude towards the product. Can't wait to come back again. Also they have a very nice exchange available for a manufacture defect. My tights were non-returnable but because there was a snag they allowed me to exchange them seeing as it was within 14 days. The process very easy. read more

I have only bought a couple items from here over the years- prices reflect just how hard it is to find this particular style anymore! I managed to snag a blackwatch tartan skirt from here last year! Good Irish tartan- the one my hubby wore at our wedding- he kilt it! lol sorry- anyway, the store! Always greeted right away and offered help upon entering (every single time I have been in this store- even when they were slammed at the holidays). Staff always is dressed to the nines- in attire that matches the store! Beyond the pinup skirts, dresses, shirts- they have a great selection of corsets, jewelry that is funky~ steampunk, gothic, playful & OMG~ the shoes! Kickass boots, crazy heels I could never wear and 50's style pumps for the less graceful in heels types like myself! I have my eye on the cherry skirt~ maybe next week! Lately, I've getting into vintage style clothing as well as been a long time corset fan and SC is the best for both! They have an amazing selection of stuff (wish I could afford to buy almost everything!) In my opinion, the best part of SC is people that work there. I went in there last week for a last minute pieces for my costume for the Harry Potter book release (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) and was looking for a corset (in my budget) and the sales gals helped me find one I could afford on the sales rack. Also, I had a very specific necklace I needed and had looked all over town for it and thought I was doomed, but one of the girls took the time to search the back and somehow magically produced it! I can not say enough about how great their service is..Literally, every girl working in the store assisted me in someway or engaged me in conversation. Alright. So. I have very mixed feelings about subculture. They've changed a LOT since they first started selling clothes at the avenues mall in FL (Idek if their store still exists there anymore)- At first it was amazing and the prices were somewhat expensive but worth it, yknow? But now, their prices have increased for absolutely no reason and their quality has gotten worse. They had so many cute and intricate items but they seem to be slowly turning into more of a semi-alternative bridal/dress shop and have gotten tackier??? In the beginning there were so many cute outfits for people, like me, who dress extra almost every day- lots of pinup, rave/stripper (which, from what it looks like, they've completely gotten rid of :/), gothic, and lolita clothes etc etc, along with a vast selection of demonias and pleasers + more (and that's not including the corsets). I mean like WALLS filled to the brim with this stuff and a very wide variety. But their selection has cut down so so much since then. The only consistent, redeeming quality they had was their wonderful employees who were always extremely sweet and were excited to help you out. The best hypemen out there lmao. It's a shame they've taken so many clothing options and a lot of originality away, pretty upsetting. I think I have walked by this store 100 times before but didn't once even look in since I never thought it carried anything I was interested in. However, one day I made my way up the stairs directly in front of them and spied some beautiful and colorful dresses that lured me in. Abby cheerfully greeted me and convinced me to let her start a dressing room. I recently lost a lot of weight and haven't ventured into trying on "risky" clothing items yet but I figured the dresses were worth a try since I have an upcoming vacation that I wanted to get a couple nice things for. Abby was amazing at finding the perfect accessories for the dresses and my self confidence. I bought 2 of the cutest dresses, belts to match, cardigans and some jewelry. After that experience I gained a new friend, added to my wardrobe, and can not wait until I need something new again! Everyone who works there is very kind, helpful and some of the coolest people I have met. I also love that it is a locally owned business. Their selection of clothing is amazing! From tops, pants, dresses, shoes, and purses, I think there is something for almost everyone there. Venture in sometime and give it a try! I really do not think you will be disappointed! read more

This store is so unique, and I love looking around to see the different styles... when they let me. I gave 3 stars because even though I love this place, the employees hover over you :( I'm not the type of person to want to talk/ask for help while I shop unless I really need it. I prefer to browse. I try to make this known whenever I go into the store by saying "I just want to look around, thanks." but they are persistent. They keep asking questions and next thing I know they are grabbing things off the racks for me. Even if I say "I like that, but I'm gonna keep looking." they just move on to the next rack. I'm an introvert, I don't like talking, I just want to mind my business and shop. But I can't do that because no matter what I say, they won't leave me alone. Even if I manage to get them to let me shop alone, they hover close, and will continue to pop in and ask questions. They're all so sweet, but I wish they'd back off just a little :( read more

Styles range from Victorian to rockabilly, and the staff is willing and able to help you find a fantastic outfit. Everything I saw was high quality. The fabrics were soft and not cheap feeling- this is no costume shop. And the corsets! Beautiful and well made. If you have any affection for them, you'll be drooling buckets here. I found prices here to be fair. For some items I found them to be equal in cost to mod cloth's offerings while surpassing them in quality. Gentlemen, you won't feel left out. While their men's collection is not as large as their women's, it carries all the quality and fantastic details you could hope for. The clothes you won't find anywhere else for miles. An odd combo: Cute retro and intense alternative. But really fun fierce clothes. Only criticism- the sales people are stalkers. I don't know if they've had bad theft or what but they literally follow you around the store asking to put things in the dressing room, even if you pick up at item for five seconds. It's kind of intense and off putting, maybe they should take a more hands off approach. read more

Before my gig this weekend I stopped in on a a very busy day but still experienced a shopping experience like I was the only customer in the shop. I think I found my new home, clothing store wise. The BEST customer service boutique wise I have EVER EXPERIENCED! These gals took one look at me & treated me like rockabilly royalty! Never has anyone in Ocala done this for me when looking at clothes! They made my first time shopping in Jax a memorable experience. They took my body type, my more psychobilly style & my preferences from the few things i picked into consideration when helping with suggestions. They worked like a team, not just cut throat shop clerks fighting for a commission. I worked retail for five years and these girls did everything boutique employees I've trained SHOULD DO! Not pushy, not upselling focused, but their goal was just to please the clients. They were honest & helpful. I had a girl named Ashley, and another lass with Bettie Bangs like mine who were other particularly helpful! I found the perfect dress & wish I could have spent more money, because these gals deserved more sales out of me! But I WILL be back! The selection & experience of such excellent customer service will be what will bring me back, 2.5 to 3 hour drive BE DAMNED! We have a boutique here in Ocala, but now I'm a Subculturecorsets dame. I visited Subculture a few months ago to look at corsets for a play I was in at the time. I didn't come in with any expectations, I was just keen to try on a few corsets to get an idea for shape and style for my costume. However, I was absolutely blown away by their customer service. Jess helped me and she was INCREDIBLE to say the least. She helped me try on a few different corsets based on what I told her I was looking for. She was very respectful of my body and space, which was so nice and helped me decide which corset would look best for the part. Though I didn't end up buying the corset then and there, I was so impressed with the special way they treated me. Jess is so fantastic at her job, I can't give her enough kudos. The store also has such a great variety and selection of items, it was difficult not to browse around afterwards! Found this store today and totally fell in love with the staff and everything they sell. My only suggestion is that they put something in the window to show that they now carry men's clothing, because from just to looks of it on the outside you would think it was only for women.
