Buyers be ware!!! Shawn Estep from Subsonic Event DJs LLC took a deposit almost a year ago for an event and canceled my event 48 hours before hand. He kept saying my deposit was going to be refunded and never did. I'm currently in the process of taking him to small claims court and reporting him to the better business bureau. Terrible & Unprofessional. Booked this guy in October for our wedding and a week prior he mentions that our DJ will be someone named Rachael. No videos, samples or any reviews on her. When I contacted him he said he got in a car accident and couldn't perform. So now you're sending a random lady to DJ our wedding?? He said "I thought I emailed you about it, it's not my fault I got in an accident" The only reason you get two stars is because you refunded our deposit. This review is based on my opinion and may be marred by my expectations. We decided to hire Subsonic Event DJs for our wedding. DJ Shawn was very enthusiastic during our first in person meeting. He and his staff are timely. Just make sure everything is in writing and very clear. We ended up having a misunderstanding about potentially being charged for an extra half-hour before the official ceremony start-time. In the end, we were not charged for this. There were other DJs that cost more, some not by much, be we decided to go with Subsonic because of yelp reviews, Shawn's enthusiasm, and proximity (the office wasn't far from my wedding venue.) One PA went out during a song, but was quickly replaced. Our DJ was professional and flexible. His demeanor fit our guests perfectly. But if I had to do it over again, I would probably go with a different company. read more

OMG!!!!! Thank you Shawn for rescuing us yesterday! I had a corporate event planned and all was marching on schedule. at about noon I called Shawn to ask for an ETA, and he said....uhmmmm your event is next Friday... he told me he'd figure it out...we both looked at our contracts and in fact, the contract stated 12/13 as the date.... One of the best things we did when planning our wedding was hire SubSonic. Shawn was so accommodating with all of our requests and guided us through the whole process of planning the music for the reception. He uses a software that helps you plan each song for all of the important introductions, and when we couldn't come up with a specific song we liked, we could pull information about the most common songs for those times, like the flower toss, cutting the cake, etc. In addition to the music, we also hired them for the photo booth, bubble machine, and had a projection screen with our monogram at the rehearsal. Those elements really set the stage for an unforgettable event that our guests really enjoyed. I have to say though, a lot of companies probably offer some of the same things, like a photo booth, monogram, etc., but they don't have the customer service and attentiveness that Shawn and his staff offers. We even forgot to bring out photo book home from the reception after the wedding had ended, and Shawn arranged a time to meet with us to drop it off. He goes above and beyond for his clients. All DJ's are not created equal! He is superb! read more

Great DJ and Affordable. They have an office where you can preview lighting and music equipment. A website just for your event so you can customize songs and timelines. Shawn is very fast at responding to emails and answering questions. Has a very upbeat attitude and really cares about his clients wants/needs. He can also suggest extra fun things that he can do for your event, like trivia and humourous squeaky chicken under the chair trick (for weddings). I've only heard great things about Shawn. Even when things are down to the wire or a crew member calls out sick, he somehow manages to pull everything together and give a great show. read more

I can't say enough good things about Shawn and Subsonic DJs. Shawn was our dj and he did such a fantastic job. Even though we had a timeline all planned out, things had to be adjusted the day of and Shawn never missed a beat. He was great with my family and their numerous song requests and he was so good at reading the mood of the crowd. We had people on the dance floor the ENTIRE reception. Customer service was fantastic as well, responses were always turned around within 24 hours. Best decision we made was going with Shawn and Subsonic DJs. read more

We were referred to Shawn by our photographer Jesse Giles Photography. We went to his office to check out the lights & music. He gave us a preview of the equipment & we came together and decided on a package that would fit our needs. Shawn has always been very great at communicating with us. Any questions or concerns we had were quickly answered & satisfied. His prices are more than reasonable and he gave us a great deal on a full lighting package since we realized the space we were using would need MANY lights! Plus, he went above and beyond and provided us with a super beautiful monogram and lighting to fit our wedding colors and decor. I particularly loved how organized he is with his website and how we were able to find songs and choose them right there on our own client page. It had always been easy and fast communication between us and Shawn. I believe that he takes every clients needs personally and really wants you and your guests to have the best time of your lives. So he is careful to get every detail to your liking to ensure that this is the case! A week before the big day, we got together and finalized the timeline for the reception to make sure everything ran smooth and how we wanted it. Since bride & groom are too busy having a good time to watch a clock, he came up to us to make sure we were ready for the next dance or speech, and made sure everyone participating was present before making the announcement, which would have been quite a gaff IF that had happened! But being the professional that he is, everything went smoothly and no one was the wiser that mom was in the bathroom at the time she was suppose to be dancing with her son! He definitely fulfilled all of our DJ needs for our reception and everyone had a blast! If we have an event in the future that requires a DJ, we would be honored to have him play for us again! We hired Shawn to DJ/MC our wedding, with very little notice, there was a drastic shift in wedding plans very close to the original wedding date. Shawn was incredibly willing to work with us, and was so flexible during the process. He put together my father-daughter mashup with very little time, and it came out amazing! Phenomenal job on the day of the wedding! We heard nothing but compliments about the music he played, he was also very involved in the process during the day with our introduction and preparing the microphones for our ceremony. We have a very lively bunch, and they are often hard to impress but Shawn did a 10/10 job. Thank you so much! read more

Sean was the DJ at my sons wedding this past weekend and he was fantastic. The party was super animated, he had everyone dancing the whole night. I don't think there was a song were the guests sat down. All night they danced to his upbeat, fantastic songs. He hung lights all over the dancing/reception area giving the evening a special glow. I would highly recommend Sean for all your DJ's needs, he is very professional, punctual and skilled. read more

I sure would like to hear more from James S. as he clearly had the same experience we did. Shawn Estep is the most unprofessional DJ, and the rudest person we have ever dealt with. This man came very close to ruining the absolute most important and significant day for my sister and my now brother-in-law. I approached Shawn with the complaints that everyone attending the wedding had. Its one thing if I am the only person upset or disappointed, but it speaks volumes when the entire wedding party and most guests approaches the Bride and Groom and asks what is the DJ's attitude problem? This guy thinks he is better than anyone else. Yet he charges to design logo's and then refuses to provide the product. I have worked with several graphic design artists, and when you pay them to provide you work, you expect to receive that work. Shawn Estep lives in a different world from most folks. He thinks he has a right to treat people like scum, and then expects them to be happy about it! The DJ ended the reception about 30 minutes early, and was not prepared to handle a single song request. Is that reasonable? We could have done better with an Ipod and some different play lists. The DJ goes on to say he had to buy another speaker. God forbid we expect the DJ we hire to have the necessary equipment to handle the job! Shawn has made comments such as using his attorney due to the slanderous remarks. Well, just so everyone is on the same page, Slander is a false statement made. These are our opinions and facts from what we observed. Unbelievable! Not to loose focus, but if we had read a review from James S. posted earlier, we would not have hired this guy. Since we both have had similar experiences, have never met nor do we know each other, I am positive that these reviews will be held up and that no one else will hire this guy. Is it truly the coincidence of a lifetime that our entire wedding party, and about 75% of the guests were wrong in finding how rude, immature, and unprofessional this DJ was along with another individual who hired him previously? Or is it more likely that we are ALL not wrong, and maybe Shawn has issues he needs to deal with. Beware, don't risk having your special occasion ruined by someone who needs an attitude adjustment of a lifetime! read more

Interesting to read the previous review, because I had a very similar experience. Didn't think to post until I read previous review and realized I could have prevented their experience if I'd spoken up earlier. The DJ was really unprepared and showed a real lack of professionalism during our special day. Not only did he screw up key details regarding when songs were to play for which dances, and the order of bridal entrance, but he even tried to end the ceremony early. You'd think the DJ would at least be apologetic and try to fix the problems but he was incredibly rude to us. Do not use any DJ named SHAWN ESTEP in Central Florida area or Subsonic Event. read more

The DJ was extremely disrespectful to the bride and groom. Played the wrong songs for the ceremony, did not introduce the bride's mother during the reception, and rushed the bridal party intros. It was almost as if it was his first wedding. We would never recommend his services to anyone, by far the worst vendor we used for our wedding. read more

Shawn Estep is one of the most unprofessional service providers I have ever dealt with!! I was a bridesmaid in a wedding that he was the DJ at last weekend. Would you believe he stopped the music 30 minutes early??!! Can you imagine having your night-of-a-lifetime cut short just because the DJ has an attitude problem?! Most of the guests have agreed that he was awful and none of us would ever hire him or recommended him to anyone. The bride and groom of this wedding are two of the sweetest and most patient people I know, yet Shawn treated them like dirt and neglected to honor their wedding wishes. First my friend and his bride were understandably upset by the lack of professionalism that they received at their reception. Crackling speakers and rushed introductions (minus the mother of the bride who was not introduced). This was a big reception and if you cannot handle this size you should not promote you can. read more
