We entered into contract with this company in December of 2018 to install a new roof which included…read morea ridge vent (for ventilation). On the day the new roof was installed we arrived home from work after dark to a dumpster filled with old roofing material and on the top of the pile was quite a few empty beer cans and beer boxes, I knew this was a bad sign so I took photos of this. 3 months later the entire roof leaked because they forgot to put the water and ice barrier down. They also did not install the ridge vent (we questioned this via email and the owners response was he couldn't because of the pitch of the roof which is rediculous, you can put a ridge vent on any roof!) Due to the lack of ventilation it caused black mold in the entire attic. They came to fix it by installing the water/ice barrier material that they forgot to put on in march of 2019 but still did not install a ridge vent which is needed to vent air into the attic. I repeatedly voiced my concerns to the owner about the mold and he emailed me that it wasn't mold, just algae and it would dry up. Its now 14 months later (and we now have become very educated on roof ventilation) after several emails back and fourth to the owner and a final phone call to him which he became extremely belligerent, told me it's not his fault and told me to F off and hung up on me. We now have hired a very expensive mold abatement company and also had to pay a new professional roofing contractor to install a ridge vent which was in my contract with JS&R Roofing. The Nye Team asked me what the Sq FT of the roof was and judging by my old reciepts from Norwich Lumber they said I would need enough materials to re-shingle a roof that was 22 Sq this is roofing talk :) The Nye team came out looked at my roof never discussing Sq FT and gave me a price of 10K . I am an out of town landlord so I called another company for a second quote . They said 22 SQ not sure who told you that but this roof is 12SQ and we can do the job pull permits clean up for 6K . So then as you can imagine I had two issues . The first was Norwich Lumber charging me for 22SQ 15 years ago and second recommending the Nye brothers to continue the price gouging . As anyone with an old house knows, very few corners are square anymore, but Spinelli installed all the windows perfectly and with a minimum of fuss. Dave wasn't sure if they could finish the job in a day, but let me know that they would come in and finish up quickly the next day if need be - no problem though as they came in and mowed through it and were finished that day. Then they spent the time to go over the work and answered any questions I had. 6 months later, I have yet to find a speck of remains in my lawn and to my knowledge nothing extra has come down from anywhere. The roof has been worry-free and does what it's supposed to do, which is look good and allow us to think about other things. 6 months ago I had a question about some shingles that weren't "sitting" on the rooftop; they said that they would lay down in time and look correct - this has proven to be the case - evidence that they know not only how to put it on, but they understand the material's behavior over time. I had Steve sand and stain my standing deck. I was told he would use oil base stain but that…read moredidn't happen. He mentioned using twp, an oil base stain, but used Behr. He also mentioned that it was good I didn't have plants around my deck so he could use a stronger bleach. He never used any bleaching agent. Instead of removing the dirt from between the boards he put stain on top of the dirt. When the stain dried I noticed numerous white spots on the deck. The Behr representative told me that happens when the wood hasn't sufficiently dried from rain or other moisture. There are also various areas that had been sanded and stained which are no longer smooth. They are rough. This too can be a problem of not waiting a sufficient amount of time for the wood to completely dry.

Yes they might be more expensive but it's worth every penny to know you had the job done by professionals who truly care about their clients and their projects. I can't recommend them more highly! I personally worked with Josh and Caleb Bahler, and Ryan King who designed the project with me. All of them (and their crews) were excellent and knowledgable and always responded immediately to any concerns.

With that said, the rest of this review will be largely negative for a variety of reasons that I will describe below. Let's get the positives out of the way. The person who took the initial measurements of the property was personable and professional. In addition, as mentioned above, the actual outcome (a walkway) ended up being pretty nice. Now for the negatives, which make up the majority of my experience with this company. 1) scheduling: when I made the decision to go with them, I asked them when the work would be started. Their response - call us back in 3 weeks or so and we'll see if you're on the calendar yet... What good looks like to me is that they tell me a target, and then get in touch with me regularly as we get closer to the date. In addition, even though they eventually told me the date, they showed up unannounced two weeks early (no joke - they just showed up, assuming it was ok to get started...). To add to that, they didn't finish the first day, and said they'd be back the next day. Well, they didn't show up, so I had to call the office...again... They ended up coming the following day. 2) the job site: there are too many problems to list here, but I'll do my best. First, they dug up a bunch of dirt for the walkway, and they just threw it on the grass surrounding the area. So much that I had to replant grass seed in the area. Second, for a company with "garden" in their name, they sure do seem clueless in terms of how to work a garden. Specifically, they dug up parts of our garden, and, instead of putting it back, they just placed the dug-up plants on top of the dirt (vs. replanting them). In addition, they tossed a bunch of dirt on top of the newly mulched garden area... Third, when digging, they cut an exposed root to a tree in the yard. I guess we'll see in about 7-9 months if the tree survived... Finally, they went in my fenced-in back yard for some reason. Well, instead of closing the gate when they left, they left it wide open, which would be fine if I didn't have kids and several animals who roam the backyard... 3) communication: last but not least, their communication was quite subpar. Aside from the scheduling mishaps, they were unresponsive to email, and messed up my final invoice (added a line item for a $750 project they didn't do...). Overall, this was a poor experience. I would strongly recommend against anyone doing business with this company. Keep looking - you can thank me later.
