Restaurants Lafleur - Here you see a chicken burger, onion rings, and a cola "sitting" on top of a stocking cap guy and a Peggy Lipton "Mod Squad" lookalike

This place, Lafleur on Cote-de-Liesse near YUL, was like a mirage. Where is there on this major…read morethoroughfare through an industrial area to put something down the hatch to tide me over at a later hour? The app was pointing to this nearby place and little did I know it's sort of like a Quebecois A&W that keeps late hours. It appears that this is a newer store to replace an older one. There is an outdoor terrace, a spacious ordering area, and a very nice dining room for this genre, complete with a crazy inscription (to an American) on the wall saying "Salut, mes p'tites frites." What? "Greetings, my little fries?" There was a fair bit of selection on Lafleur's menu. However, I wasn't looking for a hamburger. I settled on a chicken sandwich combination, but upgraded the fries to onion rings, perhaps as an excuse to say "rondelles d'oignon." Realistically, it's because I eat them so infrequently and wasn't expecting to converse with anyone. Everything tasted fairly good. I received good counter service at Lafleur. The personnel could tell I was not from the area nor familiar with their offerings. What is it with fast food and coffeehouse service in suburban areas of Quebec? It's reliably polite and up to the task! There can be marginal service at enough fast food places in the States, especially if a grittier locale. The prices were fine after being converted to U.S. currency, but the hefty sales taxes push it up. The Canadian government doesn't discriminate and even corrals us foreigners into paying for their national health care system through sales taxes. If transiting on fast and wide Cote-de-Liesse or wanting to get a bite outside the airport property, Lafleur ought to work. It won't be a haven for vegetarians and vegans, though. I think that, for fast food, eating one's food on the outdoor terrace and watching the traffic whizz by on a temperate day might actually be enjoyable.

Jumbos Restaurant - Here you see 3 sections of club sandwich, french fries, and a soft drink.  It worked for me. (I was bored, so I organized the ketchup.)

I found this place accidentally. I looked at it from the outside and it was apparent that Jumbo's…read morenear Dorval, not too far from Cote-de-Liesse and Montreal's airport, would be a diner for grub. It's a brick structure on a corner in an industrial area, which most airports tend to have adjacent to them, complete with trucks that might require that you put your car in reverse to allow them to make their sweeping turns. That said, who would be eating here? That would be employees of the many businesses in this industrial area, truckers, people staying at hotels along Cote-de-Liesse that don't offer much in the way of food, and people who happen to drive by when hungry. In my case, I had been planespotting at the airport's Jacques de Lesseps Park in the evening and, as I worked back toward the ramps to the 20, I saw Jumbo's and hadn't eaten. Why hassle with Montreal crowds when I've got this place right in my face? I had a club sandwich with fries as well as a soft drink. Jumbo's personnel are very friendly, be they the cashier or the owner. The prices appeared to be fair, but it's typically those crazy socialistic Canadian taxes that can make the tab look higher. That could have come into play! You'll notice something unusual about the place, especially if not at peak hours. Inside, it's huge, with all these booths befitting a big cafeteria-like diner. Then, there's a fair amount of parking. In industrial areas outside of Montreal, the streets are very wide ... and there aren't even too many cars on them. Here, the dining room and the parking lot are probably sized to accommodate peak breakfast and lunch crowds. Another hint on how to find Jumbo's - if you see the fairly nice Holiday Inn Express at about Cote-de-Liesse and 55th, it's just down the street and within walking distance from that hotel.

We didn't look at the Yelp reviews beforehand, but reading them now we realize that our experience was quite different from the negative experiences other yelpers have had: we actually had a good time! The service was fast and the staff were really kind. The food was of good value for the prices we paid (considering how expensive everything else was around our gate). We only have two negative comments about this place. Although they gave a generous portion of wine, the alcohol prices were overall quite expensive. In addition, although the burger was not bad, it was crumbly (flaky, falling apart) so it was not as good as it probably could have been.

The beef was good albeit a bit overcooked but still had the juices. The fries were great, can't mess up fries! Drinks: N/A Atmosphere: it's an airport so didn't expect much but after walking through the airport it wasn't as well maintained as the other spots. Pro-Tip: If you find yourself eating here, grab one of the chef burgers as the do it yourself burgers become costly with charges for everything including sauce
