I have eaten here several times since they opened about 4-5 months ago. I've never been…read moredisappointed yet! The food is always hot and fresh and the cashiers are always very nice! I almost always order chicken tenders (or occasionally the nuggets which are also hand battered and actual chunks of REAL pieces of chicken). The batter is super crispy on the chicken, the Cajun fries have terrific flavour and I love the biscuits! Yum! (As a side note, I went to KFC about 2-3 months ago and I won't be going back to KFC - it's wayyyy to salty!). Popeyes is probably my first choice now when I want a quick meal.

I ordered two pieces of fish and one shrimp, gravy, two biscuits, coleslaw and fries. Only the…read morecoleslaw was edible. The shrimp turned out to be very tiny shrimp in thick spicy batter: tasteless. I had thought that the shrimp would be 1 big battered shrimp not one order of miniscule flavourless tiny shrimp. I could not find the actual shrimp in the batter. The fish was rectangular (like from a stamping machine) but the actual very thin fish piece inside the batter wasn't bad. The fries were thin, stringy and mushy. I ordered plain gravy but got a spicy gravy that was like glue. The biscuit (ordered 2 but got 1) was good but highly salty. Ordered take-out.Threw out all but the biscuit. It was a Monday night in January and Chinese food was closed. Should have cooked or bought food like Jane's fish at Zehrs.

We had a craving for Mexican and since there were no Chipotle's around we figured this was close. I…read moreappreciate them having an allergy menu online and offering a vegan "meat" replacement. I found the rice to have a strange texture and there was too much vegan meat replacement & beans on my bowl. I prefer more veggies to anything else, and despite my telling the person working that I only wanted 1 scoop of beans he kept piling them on. I didn't want to waste the food and ask him to remake so I just dealt with it. Taste-wise the food was ok. I asked for the BBQ sauce since I knew it was vegan but I didn't think it really went with what I ordered. My BF got the bang bang sauce and didn't think it went with his food either. The side of guacamole was adorable and should have been called a "taste" instead of a side because it was so tiny. Edible food, not great quality, but we were starving so we ate it all. We probably wouldn't stop in again if we were in the area though.

So. Much. Yum. Finally a tasty Mexican fast food option in Stratford…read more It's located in a large parking lot across from McDonald's and beside a Booster Juice and Papa John's. Pretty good little food plaza if you ask me. My personal go-to (see attached picture) is the salad bowl with pulled pork, lettuce, shredded cheese, tomatoes, onions, pickled jalapeño, cilantro, and burrito sauce. It's the best, and so filling. Who needs bread?! Staff is friendly, speedy, and happy to accommodate special requests. The burrito sauce is divine, but then again, isn't all burrito sauce super bomb. Yup... If only the guac weren't "extra", that's so 2015. Give this place a try!

Staff are always…read morefriendly and welcoming - but its the sandwiches that really keep me coming back every time I'm in Stratford. The newest location is right by the river - with lots of public parking across the street. Beautiful old building and a nicer overall decor than the previous spot. Still colourful - with cool drawings of their famous sandwiches on the walls. Lots on offer, but really, who am I kidding? "Mennonite sandwich, please" is what I said - and what you better say if you know what's good for ya. That delicious summer sausage, fresh corn relish with a subtle but delicious kick of spice. The cheddar - classic taste - nice slice - just how I like it. Definitely not processed cheese. The fresh country white bread - melt in your mouth but still with a crunchy brown crust. MMMMMMMMMennonites seem to have the secret of sandwich making down pat. This is the kind of sandwich that puts hair on your chest...What's that joke - why do Mennonite boys grow beards? Because they want to look just like their moms! Lol a bit off side maybe there - but my point is simple - a hearty, tasty sandwich - one of the best and most classic available in Ontario. Get out there and grab a few. The baking is also delicious!!

Fab! The best sandwiches in Stratford! At INCREDIBLE prices, too!!!…read more Check out the checklist-style takeout menu: http://www.yorkstreetkitchen.com/YSKSandwichmenu.pdf Most of my friends are huge fans of the Mennonite Sandwich. I enjoy the Othello (sans pesto, of course) but most often create-my-own. Last time I was there I had local goats cheese (swoon-inducing) on multigrain (OMG freshly-baked and so so so good) with alfalfa sprouts, tomatoes, cucumbers, avocados, lettuce, roasted sweet red peppers, honey mustard (made by local mennonites!) & mayo. I always add the "deli dills" - I'm pretty sure they're local mennonite too. Needless to say, PHENOMENAL. They also have THE MOST AMAZING 4-bean salad. Try it. Trust me. I don't even LIKE bean salad all that much... this one converted me. Really. GET IT. They lose a star because it's time to fix the service. It takes waaay too long to get your food, and that's true whether you eat in or order from the take-out window. Service is a bit better for breakfast, but still nothing to rave about. Expect to wait 20-30 minutes for your food. The kitchen & waitstaff are unfortunately more often than not visibly frazzled/stressed. I have been here for breakfast a bunch of times, as well as dinner once or twice. I LOVE LOVE LOVE their jam - "moss berry" - never heard of it before or since! For dinner, I've had the Spinach, Marinated Mushroom, Red Onion and Goat Cheese Pizza ($6.50) as well as the Caramelized Broccoli, Red Onion and Ricotta Stuffed Pasta Shells baked in a our slow-cooked Tomato Sauce ($13.95). Both VERY yummy. Their breakfast burrito is legendary. I must recommend it as your first breakfast expedition at YSK. For meat-eaters, try the peameal bacon. LOCAL PORK FACTOIDS: A note on peameal bacon + Stratford: this is prime peameal bacon territory. If you don't make it to YSK, try to get to the Stratford Farmer's Market where you will find a chuckwagon of sorts vending DREAMY peameal bacon sandwiches. OMG. AMAZING. Perth County produces some of the best pork in the country. If you're passing through Shakespeare on the way to Stratford (or back - it's just east of Stratford), make a stop at "The Best Little Pork Shoppe", which is certainly NOT little. Check it out: http://www.porkshoppe.com/ Last interesting pork fact? The Annual Ontario Pork Congress happens in Stratford too. Just one more point in proof that Stratford is THE place to be eating pork. Which I don't, to clarify. I've been a veghead for 13 years now. But I have juicy childhood memories of Saturday mornings at the market with my Dad eating peameal bacon sandwiches with LOCAL bacon, LOCAL cheddar cheese, FRESHLY-CHURNED LOCAL butter on a FRESHLY-BAKED kaiser bun. FOR REAL. Back to TSK breakfast. I've also had the French Toast with local maple syrup and some sort of homemade apple-pie-filling-type side (INCREDIBLE) and the H.M.S. Pinafore Breakfast Sandwich (toasted bagel with that gorgeous local goat cheese, smoked salmon, tomato, onion & lettuce) is worth a try too! So basically, if you're looking for a unique, personality-filled, delicious place for breakfast, brunch or lunch, HEAD HERE!
