The way he handled the situation honestly caught me off guard because you don't always get that kind of customer service, especially late at night. I really appreciated the way he treated me like an actual person instead of just another customer in the drive-thru. He was respectful, kind, and willing to help when he absolutely didn't have to be. Management ; PLEASE recognize Gary. Employees like this are exactly what makes people want to come back to a location. That said, I've never had a cheese curd I didn't love, so those get a pass! Her partner at the time was deeply into pickles. And Packo's is almost synonymous with pickles. If there is any doubt, stick your head into the gift shop. As good as everything is, the pickles may be the best part. For the sake of full disclosure, I am still continuing to dial in my perfect order at TPs. I think I was pretty close on the last trip with stuffed cabbage and a Hungarian "hot dog" with chili, onions, and mustard. Personally, I find adding this cheese to these hot dogs does not add much beyond calories and fat (and not the kind of fat that equals flavor, there is already plenty of that in the sausage and chili). But the hot dogs come with pickles. And they are magnificent. It's kind of like the fun that comes with eating shishito peppers. You never know which one is going to be the spicy one. The spicy ones are especially delightful. One of these days I'll get the fried pickles. I am sure they are divine, and may bring the place up to 5 stars. But I need to bring a crew with me, and regrettably, my family just isn't into this type of cuisine. For me, the stuffed cabbage tapped into some ancient ancestral memory and brought me an unreasonable amount of joy. So it goes. Personally, I found the pierogi to be a bit dry, but my basis for comparison is Polish. Perhaps this is precisely how pierogi are prepared in Hungary. But the bottom line is that Tony Packo's is a regional treasure. If you haven't been, go. If you've gone, visit them again. This gas station didn't have gas the last time I came here but if you really want something to eat and you are absolutely atrocious in your taste in food, you could come here to the subway. I don't think it's a very good Subway but then I don't think any Subway is very good to be honest. At least it's open 24 hours and it's not from a package. But it kind of is.
