I'm the family scapegoat, purpose of family therapy - address elephant in the room. Why rules which applied to everyone else, did not apply to me. My (narcissist/golden child) sister insisted on meeting with her first, before we met together, the 3 of us. Unaware of what was said in that first meeting, was still hopeful Dr. Hill could help to bring awareness to my family about this toxic family dynamic, so that we could move on harmoniously, as a family. While family scapegoating abuse (FSA) is increasingly more common & gaining awareness, it's not fully understood by mainstream therapists. In this situation, counseling can do more harm than good. Especially for the person who's been systemically abused since childhood, not only by the mentally ill/narcissist parent who targeted her, but rest of the family who learned (consciously/subsconsciously) to treat her as the family trash can. That said, during our FIRST session, Dr. Hill said to me, "you DO know you are an alcoholic, right?" I was shocked. I am NOT an alcoholic. Not even CLOSE! And who the hell is SHE to tell ME I am an alcoholic? She didn't even KNOW me. I LITERALLY just met her. No words to describe how offensive this was. Even my sister agreed how bizarre and completely inappropriate this "diagnosis" was. It was just WRONG. I'll be filing a complaint with CA Board of Psychology. This person should NOT have a license. Talk about "doing more harm than good." FYI - not a wonder her therapist license was revoked (aka "voluntarily surrendered") for "unprofessional conduct" in 2007. So how is she still practicing? A loophole law, aka starting a "non-profit" as "ordained minister" several years later. Just exposing the obvious, so that others can make an informed decision. I'm so grateful I found Meredith. She helped clear up this issue within 2 sessions of seeing her. I came back to her for more sessions later on because I had a trip planned to the Great Barrier Reef with family members who all wanted to scuba dive. But I was always absolutely terrified of the ocean and being underwater made me want to panic. Meredith helped me work through this and now I'm absolutely obsessed with scuba diving and even feel safe and comfortable underwater now. To some, hypnosis can seem a bit "woo-woo" but I stand by it and believe that it can help people overcome their fears. The only thing I should mention is I am very "suggestable" (hypnotizable) so I had fantastic and quick results, but some people are not as easy to hypnotize- but it's worth giving it a try if you have a problem or fear you need help working through. The on set of my anxiety was when I truly started to grieve the loss of my mom in 2007. My husband couldn't finger point where his started . We've both been on numerous anti- anxiety/ depressants . I've had the occurrence of suicidal thoughts etc, on these medications. My husbands Dr. Recently put him on Wellbutrin. It made him mean and angry, I could see the anger in his face. A side of effect of this medication : FITS OF RAGE!!! We were recently married in July and took our honeymoon in Sept. With our family to our time share in Cabo. We planned for 7 days in paradise, making memories with the people we love. Well this was cut short to my husbands severe panic attack on day 3. He could not get out of bed, he said his body was hurting all over, he was vomiting, and crying because of the pain. As his wife I felt so helpless because there was nothing I could do. My bestfriend was in so much pain and all I could do was hold it together for him. We got on a plane that day(Saturday) and came home. We found Cynthia on The Thumbtack app!!!
