My coworker recommended this restaurant because it was walking distance from the Newton bar. We walked in without a reservation as a party of 4. Seating inside the restaurant was quite tight but it gave an intimate feel. We ordered the charcuterie plate with has a minimum order for 3 people and they will have a hawk eye on your table to make sure that no one who ordered touched anything on the platter as they would have to charge another $20 for someone to touch something that they didn't pay for. The dishes were OK nothing extraordinary and nothing with lots of flavor. I don't think I'll eat here anytime soon. read more

Great semi-formal restaurant for a Friday night. I absolutely loved everything I ordered. As a starter, I got the tartare de thon which is a raw tuna dish & it was unbelievably delicious & surprisingly very filling. We just arrived in at our nearby hotel and were hangry and happy to find this lovely restaurant for lunch. Ratatouille, steak, and cod were excellent and the price was reasonable. The food was delicious here and the service was good. I didn't love our table despite making a reservation. We felt a bit squeezed into a corner and very close to the neighboring table so much so that I was pretty much forced to sit on the end of a man's walking stick sitting next to me! We came at 6 pm and service was very slow. We ordered the cheese plate and asked for the salmon. We were then told that they ran out of salmon but had another fish. So I asked the waiter what fish he had and he told me "goldfish". I asked again if he was sure, because I have never heard of a restaurant serving goldfish. He assured me it was goldfish. Just for the fun of it we ordered it and when it came it was of course not a goldfish, but some average white fish, fried and served with flavorless mashed potatoes. The whole meal was forgettable. Boring. We waited 1 hour for the "goldfish", so if you really wanna try this place, bring time and don't expect fast service. Also, there's no privacy. Tables are very close next to each other and the restaurant is tiny. The kitchen doesn't seem to have a ventilation system, because the whole restaurant smells once they start cooking and so my hair smelled like fish. My friend that I met later smelled it on my hair, make sure you shower after eating here. The cheese plate was ok, that's why I gave 2 stars. read more

What is it with the service wurst in this town? A lengthy wait for bistro and basic food, but with at least a smile. Great side salads, plentiful and with a real flair for melded dressings and greens. Staff is seriously green here. After waiting for quite a bit, they deliver our entrees and the guy doesn't realize our salad plates haven't been removed from the table. So he stands there looking for his third arm then suddenly realizes... oh ok wait ... I'll be back. Yeah duh?!? ya think? Luckily though the foods is very good actually, but also a bit pricey. Poulet with plum sauce is actually perfectly cooked, with rich cream, and great sides. The Steak Hache is basically hamburger steak, more actually like meatloaf, but holy carp extremely juicy and full of spices and rich filling and texture. Might be the best meatloaf I ever had. Other people came and demanded their food, and then left. Service here really needs work, so hopefully if they can iron that out, they can end up with a good thing going on. read more

Authentic French food. Great food, but I couldn't give it 5 stars because nothing blew me away. The staff is incredibly friendly and the service was excellent. In my experience living in Berlin, the service tends to be slow at most restaurants - especially coming from NYC. The waiters at this restaurant are attentive and check in often enough that you are not waiting for anything you need, but not too often to be disruptive to dinner conversation. It is a bit pricey for Berlin. Regardless, it's a great restaurant in a good location and a romantic atmosphere. I would recommend making reservations. It's a very small space. read more

Let me start off by saying that Alice and Francois gave some of the best service we've experienced so far on our Europe trip. They were helpful and attentive with a charming attitude and banter that made our entire time at the restaurant beyond pleasant. The food here was amazing!!!! We started off with the charcuterie and cheese plate for one, followed by the chicken dish and the salmon dish. My friend had a beer and I had a glass of wine. Everything was delectable and savory. I'm not French so I won't pretend to be any great expert on how French food should be prepared - but to a novice, the fare here was pretty damn good. The shared entree plate fed 5 of us comfortably, with a range of cold cuts, dips and cheeses (including some divine fresh mozzarella), and the main dishes were of good quality and a reasonable size given their price. The dessert was absolutely outstanding - perfect creme brûlée and an exquisite oozy chocolate cake made with (what our waiter promised us was) 100% French chocolate. My only complaint would be that the time meals took to come out was a bit long - it's nice to have some time to chat and digest but maybe not as long as we waited. Maybe it was just a once off, but it seemed to be the case with most of the tables around us as well. But I wouldn't see that as a reason not to go! read more

The atmosphere here is pretty friendly. The manager/waiter is always ready to have a warmful talk with you. A pity the food was not as good as we expected but rather irregular. I would recommend the salad but not the hachis parmentier (I still wonder about the meat). The wine was OK for an abroad commercialized French wine and for a very reasonable price. Probably the best french bistro in Berlin. The food is great, friendly staff and the owner is always very accommodating. "Meh" is the first word that pops into my head as I think of this place. Inside: meh. Outside: meh (Torstrasse isn't as charming as the surround in the same area). Service: meh. Food: more meh. A big thank you to the (i suppose and hope) main waiter who was lovely tried to fix the mistakes his colleagues made. The double booking in the beginning, that left us without a table in the beginning (in spite of a reservation) was not a big deal. We found a table ourselves outside which was fine for us in the end. It was a really busy day and that stuff happens. The long waiting time for everything (also the first drinks) did not bother us neither, that happens - it was quite full. The starter (3 person starter) was yummy, so after that everything was forgotten. As it was quite crowded, we waiting a fair amount of time till the next course arrive - which is fine again at least for us. Which really bummed me of and got me to write my - first ever - review here was A) for the second time (i was there before as i had organized a firm dinner at the place) Entrecote steak was not blue whatsoever. With that prices i expect the kitchen to know what they are doing. But ok. I ate the duck (which was good, i can recommend it) but in the end it is the principle thats talking - if you can not do it don´t offer it, no problem. B) which was the bigger issue and left a very bitter taste in my mouth was the desert. I do not mind if there is not enough desert - creme brulee or tarte au chaucolat - for all the customers, but if you offer me a cheesecake instead and i accept, kindly do not bring me 1/3 of the portion the clients on the table next to me are eating. I am an very easy customer, but even if i am a fool - this evening i am your customer, and you should not let even the most foolish customer feel as he was one (also noone of us commented on anything the whole night). When i refused the piece and the waiter apologized and magically a bigger piece appeared. Thanks for that but as my reaction shows (i refused it) that is not cool. Don´t save money on this front because you will mess up a lovely and rather pricey (for some) experience for people. This should not happen in an establishment of your standard and if that does happen, which is human here a tip - when i used to work in service, if someone messed up i would offer and insist on compensations and feel good methods, such as free desert or whatever. We had some bumpy moments the whole evening, which was fine but the end left me with a no go. Thanks again to the waiter who was trying hard, but the bitter taste is stronger than the food that i ate. Too bad read more
