One time, at band camp...no just kidding; one time when I was 14, there was a band called…read moreFurnaceface and I really liked this band. I heard they were coming to Sudbury and were going to play an all ages show so I did everything I could to come up with a bit of money and a ride, grabbed my best friend, and experienced my first ever live music show - at the Townehouse Tavern. This first experience has defined a lot of my life - music choices, friend choices, etc. I've gone on to see many shows and have many drunken (and sober) nights at the Townehouse. When I go home for a visit, it's always on the agenda. The bar has been going strong for close to 25 years now, booking a wide array of bands and musicians, some barely known and some well known. For a city like Sudbury, it's truly an impressive thing. I thought that perhaps I was being biased by giving the Townehouse 5 stars, based on my affinity for live music and pubs and the fact that there is a serious lack of each in Sudbury. But I don't think that's it - this is just a genuinely great bar, down to earth, good music, good people, good times. When you're booking amazing talent like Bedouin Soundclash, Bocephus King, etc. and won't submit to crap music, you deserve 5 stars. I can't sum it up much better than Paul does on the Townehouse website - there is a great about us section that outlines the history of the venue. My only complaints would be that the washrooms are kind of yuck and that the bouncers are sometimes a bit jerky because they work at the coolest and most 'alternative' bar in town. But, that counts for a few minutes of your night and then you're whisked back into 1994 or 2000 or whenever it was that you first happened to start frequenting the Townehouse - and I mean this is a good way. Your friends are there, a good band is playing, you play a round of foos and drink some beer. Could you really ask for anything more on a Sudbury Saturday Night?

They shut down my program (BHSc in Midwifery) two weeks before the end of term,…read morenotifying/essentially firing the Program Director and all staff BY EMAIL just minutes before making the public announcement. Despite applying to graduate and getting all of my required documentation on time, I was not invited to convocation and did not have my name read during the ceremony. I spent two days on the phone and sending emails asking if I was actually going to graduate/get my degree, to which they replied they hadn't processed the paperwork in time (even though it was sent 5 days before the due date). No apology, no reimbursement of graduation fees, just an eye-roll from the Dean and administrators who were being held accountable to actually do their jobs. Oh...and they owe me money for overpayment of tuition....which I'll probably never see again.

I used to be a regular guest at Delta Bingo and have not lived in Sudbury for close to a decade. I…read moream 'home' visiting so my sister brought me out to Bingo and I was disappointed by my experience. Let me start by saying that the staff is still friendly and I have no problem with the staff. Smiles, great staff and volunteers. HOWEVER, the place is now very dark (I get that it's so the new slots show better) . Bingo is a paper game. But the stupid Gecko electronic bingo machines win the lion's share of games. Consistently. Jackpot games should NOT have a number cap...that's why they are the jackpot. I get with the super jackpot, accumulator, etc, but the regular jackpot...come on!!!! The games themselves have less in the actual book and there are almost an equal number of extra add on games which is frustrating. Additional, the prize payout on regular games is literally half what it used to be. Not being able to bring my own drinks in was very inconvenient as I am on a special diet. We used to be able to bring in food and drink with no issues. The Super Jackpot is now the same payout as the regular jackpot, so really it isn't very super. And it doesn't make sense and is frustrating to a former regular. The caller wasn't previewing the numbers in the monitor and indeed didn't even show us one number so we don't actually know that the number she said was actually the number from the hopper. Also, they have taken the recycling bins from the tables and although the volunteers were really great at this session, I can only imagine what it must be like on other days. And although I underStand that this has become Delta gaming centre, I found that most of the place was dedicated to electronic gaming (slots and geckos) and not traditional paper (which should be slotted equal space in my opinion). But like I said, the staff are really nice.
