Must take issue with the 'lame area' quote. Oi, that's my manor you're talking about! Joking aside, it's not the most gentile of areas but there are some really really interesting foodie places bubbling up all over here. Lots are reviewed. And this is one of them. Sufi is a place we'd heard a lot of good things about but never ventured into as Askew Rd isn't the road of choice in the area it has to be said. But with time to burn, why not? Very pleasant inside. Homely, sweetly decorated. Warm welcome. Menu. All the classics you'd find at other persian places in the area. Grilled meats, lots of mezze starters, big flat bread. We ordered 2 soups, some hummus, some mirza ghizeme and some olivera, and one grilled chicken dish to share for three of us. As the good ones do, he made the bread in the big oven at the front and coated it with sesame seeds and kalonje seeds. Delicious. The food all came together as we asked and it was all very tasty. Generous helpings, freshly made. In fact we over ordered. One quibble. The Mirza Ghizeme tasted a bit too much like raw onion. But this could well be my ignorance rather than a failing of the dish. The chicken was expertly cooked I would say and the rice it came with was steamed beautifully. Best bit of course is the bill. £33 the lot. You'd pay £10 more even in Yas (reviewed here by me) and of course in town you'd pay a hell of a lot more. Charming place. A local gem. We'll be back. read more

Great value Persian (Iranian) cuisine on Askew Road that's long been a favourite on the Time Out Cheap Eats list. It's actually quite hard to notice Sufi as you drive or take the bus down the street, but unmissable if you walk. Why? Because they have a modest shop front but it has a outlet pipe for their stone-bake bread oven which pipes out the beautiful smell of cooking flatbreads every evening. It's the sort of smell that makes cartoon kids float through the air as if their nose is caught in a tractor beam. The main courses are mostly stews, skewers and biriyani-type dishes full of flavour and largely lamb or chicken based. The starters are excellent, with a long list of dips like hummus to go with the signature fresh-cooked flatbreads. The breads are obviously one of the stand-outs worth ordering and the other real plus point is how cheap the final bill will inevitably be. This is good value, exotic yet homely grub. Just make sure you don't order the beautiful yoghurt drink they have and then drink red wine as well. Curdle tummy. read more

Sufi is a little gem in an otherwise lame area for eating out (well, La Copita is closed now and I never cared much for Adams...yeah...shoot me now!). What will you get at Sufi? Well, huge dishes of food that have yet to disappoint me - I'm a sucker for the straightforward chicken fillet kebab which comes with a rice mountain and salad for £8.50. The sea bass was also great, and friends have raved about the lamb kebabs. Whatever happens make sure you have some of the fresh flat bread too - it's baked in the oven at the front of the restaurant and goes perfect with their hummus...just be sure to leave enough room for your main course! I think they still do BYO although they also have a decent enough wine list (the house wine is £10.40 a bottle). Staff are friendly, settings are relaxed and they can cater for larger groups in their back room so it makes a great place for a birthday dinner. Here's hoping they don't go changing :D read more

This is nice cosy restaurant that serves good food. They don't have huge rooms but it's enough for small party or special evening. Food is cheap but that doesn't mean place is cheap. In fact food is smelling tempting and is really tasty. Maybe they need to work on service. Staff isn't very friendly. But I like going there not because of staff but food so I don't care so much. As far as they make grilled salmon so good I'll keep going there. read more

It's quite a journey to get to but worth it. I recommend taking the 266 from Hammersmith which'll bring you close to the restaurant on Askew. For 3 ppl, we ordered the combination platter & bread. It was so delicious that I nearly filled myself up from it. The noodle soup is also rich with amazing flavors and it can be quite filling. For mains, the grills are cooked well but think I've def had better elsewhere. I really loved the grilled seabass (it's whole w/o the head for those of you who might get scared!) and goes really well with the ultra spicy sauce. For desserts, tried the persian ice cream (saffron & rose water). Not really my tastes.... kind of reminded me of potpourri. Service is great - Def recommend making reservations esp for a Friday night. Definitely will go back again! read more

What can I say about this place, Outstanding! Wonderful, simple food, presented in a clean style, and absutely amazing taste. I loved the way the Naan bread is prepared, in front of the diners and cooked in the tandoor which is located in the front window. A must see! read more

Simply can't get any better! It's been almost 3 years since the last time I dined here (I live in the States) and still can't get over the fact that I'm not able to eat there more often. the service is phenomenal and the staff are just going out of their way to be nice and helpful. as far as the food, It just the best thing you can ask foranywhere and I mean inside and outside of Iran and any other places famous for their Kabob. Can't wait to visit London again and this restaurant will be on top the list of places that I have to pay a visit (yep, well over Big Ben, London eye and Buckingham Palace) read more

We got dinner at Sufi when we were visiting friends. It was an absolutely amazing meal. The lamb is cooked perfectly, the nan is cooked in front of you in their own stone oven and the service couldn't be more friendly and helpful. Highly recommend eating here. read more

A little haven stuck between some rather lackluster high street shop fronts. We sat at the table at the front of the restaurant. Between us and the window was a guy making fresh naan bread in a tandoori oven. He did so with a smile on his face, and it was the nicest (and lightest!) naan bread I've ever eaten. After reviewing the menu for a while, I looked at my friend and declared 'it's all the same thing!'. This didn't bother me, but it was quite amusing. Why make me read 2 pages to deduce there are only about 3 things on offer? The mains are essentially all varieties of a very tight theme - kebabs. A mixture of lamb shish, chicken shish, and koftas, served with salad or rice or bread. Don't get me wrong, this isn't the kind of place you'd stumble into at 3 in the morning, but it does specialise in kebabs. The food was great. The meat was incredibly tender and well cooked. I liked the presentation too, though it might not be to everyone's taste. The mixed grill comes on an oval white plate, with one row of lamb, one row of chicken, and one row of kofta. That simple. The Persian tea to finish was lovely, and served in a rather ornate teapot. The server was quick to correct me when I tried to pour it straight away. Overall, the service was friendly, but servers were often difficult to locate (usually hiding out the back somewhere) - there were only 2 or 3 tables in (it was early afternoon on a Sunday). But these things don't bother me when the food is good. Well worth a visit. read more

Outstanding Persian/Iranian food. Had takeaway from there three times now - but still haven't eaten in. We've had vegetarian friends over, and shared big portions of delicious vegetarian dishes - and the meat dishes have been fantastic. Even for takeaway, I got really friendly helpful service from the woman who runs it - and she remembered me. Decor is kind of what you'd expect - nicely done, subdued, usually quite busy. The only recurring problem has been feeling completely stuffed afterwards. read more

I seem to exclusively visit great Persian restaurants. This one hidden away from any tube or railway line but still very good. In front the tandoor looking oven where they freshly baked the local flatbread after rolling the dough. Came there for a big lunch and quite a few tables were reserved despite it being a Sunday. Regardless there was still room for a few more. In the back there was this big table for like a very large family. I also quite liked the décor though it wasn't overwhelming at all. We had flatbread with a dip. Lots of dips and all looked good. Ours was one with aubergine and walnuts. Really liked it especially with freshly baked flatbread. I put a lot of weight in quality of flatbread. And really liked this one. For mains we took the stews. My one was the one with walnuts and pomegranate. I quite enjoyed it but it wasn't overwhelmingly amazing. I think next time I will go for their meats. Though because of their locations away from anything this might be best for locals. LOVE Sufi! Discovered it on our first evening after moving into the area, and have been going back semi-regularly in the three-odd years since. Service is always gentle and wonderful, and feels very personal. We love to watch the bread making by the window, and even more love to eat it while it's still warm and fresh with the great range of dip-style starters. Sometimes we just order them with bread and fill up on that, but other times I can't resist ordering the kebab dishes which come with the most amazing rice I've ever eaten (don't ask me why it's just GREAT) and oh so tender and flavoursome meat. Ask for a little bowl of the chilli sauce they have available it goes great with the kebab meals. As somebody else wrote, the main issue is my distended stomach and inability to walk when I leave. The quantity is certainly up there with the quality! I've been meaning to try other Persian restaurants to see if they are all as good, but somehow I always end up back at Sufi instead. read more

I love Iranian food, and London really has some good ones, this one however it's the worst ever! Never happened that I have been so disappointed, I went with friends that never had Persian cuisine before and I was so embarrassed for what we had, food was uncooked when we waited for that for nearly an hour, presentation was so old fashion, service quite poor and despite all this it has been also the most expensive, definately NOT GOING BACK!!!! read more
