The overall quality of instruction is atrocious, it's not an over exaggeration to say they trained us to not survive under water, instead of actually being a proficient, and safe, diver. Their DM candidates they had helping the class were weapons grade narcissists who both admitted they did the same shore dive 50 times to meet the minimum dive requirements, they said this openly! We had one decent instructor, the other who finished the course was simply NOT good at being an instructor. I then decided on a quote for gear with them and when I went over it, line by line, they were quoting higher prices than what was listed inside their shop.... seriously? Finally, I took a brand new tank, new VIP and O2 cleaned, to get it filled by them, but they insisted on it being O2 cleaned, despite it having a well known shops VIP sticker on it stamped as O2 cleaned, they clearly want to scam you out of more money. We've since moved on in our SCUBA careers as technical dive masters and now venturing into closed circuit diving; however, it wasn't without having to basically start from ground zero with another instructor to retrain us. What made me go back and write a review about this from our experience years ago is we have run into divers certified through them on the boats here in South Florida and they suffer from the same garbage training. My best advice is to avoid this place, in fact just avoid all SCUBA shops in Texas and train somewhere in Florida where diving is more prevalent and you have higher quality instructors to choose from. read more

Great staff. Lots of classes and they will work with you if your schedule doesn't fit perfectly with the days of a particular class or if you need to make up a missed day. If you don't see a special PADI class you want listed on their website they may be able to put one on for you if you ask. They didn't try to sell me equipment I didn't need and even advised me against buying some things that wouldn't have been appropriate for me. Every instructor I've had has been great. They are open on Sundays, which is surprisingly uncommon. No matter who was working behind the counter when I walked in I was always treated well. read more

My husband and I have been diving for 17 years so we've seen a lot of dive operators. Both of my kids got certified thru SLDC at the age of 10 (my son just completed his today) and I highly recommend this dive school. Great Staff here! Everyone is very helpful and informative. You never feel rushed or ignored. I will be continuing my dive training here for certain! I would honestly give 20 stars if I could. SLDC has been so helpful in my quest to become dive certified. From the get-go they were extremely flexible and helpful in scheduling as I travel and am working many weekends. But more importantly, they have been extremely supportive and encouraging when I had difficulty completing skills. I was unable to make it through all the pool dives in the first weekend and they were so kind and patient with me and even when I thought there was no way I could get through it, they were able to help me through. Just want to thank Chris, Tarran, Alex, Justin, and everyone else I worked with for their patience and their encouragement. I'm still not yet certified, but hoping to give it another go a little bit later. I can't say enough good things about this place, and feel soooo lucky that I decided to get my open water certification with them and nobody else. read more

My experience at the Sugar Land Dive Center was Amazing. They could not have been any more accommodating. Chris is the owner and goes out of her way to make sure everyone is safe and has everything that they need. She also allows you to try the equipment in the pool during class prior to purchasing. Their price is one of the best I've seen and there are No hidden fees. I've gone to visit multiple Dive shops but this was by far my favorite. My training was awesome and the instructors are dedicated to helping you gain the skills you need to be successful. read more

The staff and owners at Sugar Land Dive Center are wonderful: knowledgeable, helpful and accommodating to your personal needs. Initially I went there because I needed a re-certification after a long hiatus from diving, and they expertly guided me through the all the process. Since then, I attained my Advanced Open Water Diver certification with them too. Their on-site pool is very convenient for classes, private lessons, and more. I also appreciate thing like all the care they took helping me find a mask that fit just right. They also lead several diving trips a year. I started with the Roatan trip, and it was absolutely fantastic! The diving there in tropical waters is great and very diverse. The resort where we stayed was lovely, and the staff there were the most friendly and helpful that I've ever met. AND did I to mention this? The food was really delicious; it was prepared with the freshest of local ingredients. I highly recommend this trip! read more

Couldn't have asked for a better experience in becoming PADI open water certified. I signed up for the PDI open water class which took place over 2 consecutive weekends. The first weekend was the course in the morning and pool dives in the afternoons. The second weekend was 2 lake dives each day. Everyone at the shop, those who taught us and didn't teach us, were extremely friendly and seemed very knowledgeable and experience in diving. This dive shop really focuses on their students and makes sure they understand the content. As they told us, there is no set pace, the course will go as fast or as slow as they need to go to make sure all participants learn the material and are COMFORTABLE. They do an amazing job with getting everyone comfortable in the gear and being underwater. Not to mention they have fun while teaching you and enjoy being in the water. Our lake dives were in November with cold weather (45 on the surface for our dive on Sunday). The instructors, Phil, Jimmy, and Kendal all were happy to be out there and didn't hurry along because it was cold. They were thorough and made sure we understood everything. If we were cold then they got us out of the water and made sure we got warm, all were very considerate and knowledgeable. I cannot recommend this dive shop enough. We drove from Galleria for the course and would do it again in a heartbeat. If you're not sure about getting certified or have always wanted to this dive shop will teach you all the knowledge and get you very comfortable. THANK YOU EVERYONE AT THE DIVE SHOP WHO HELPED US!!!
