So you know a place is good if their schedule is very busy. Karen is very busy and for good reason. She will rip out your overgrown hair and make it hurt much less than any other method. The space is always welcoming and clean. Online appointments provide good reminders the day before. You can schedule online but really just schedule with her before you leave. I have a friend that recommended Sugar Shack to me for sugaring (instead of a wax). I thought "ah, I'll eventually make an appointment" but did not make it a priority. Lets be real... I was scared s*#%less to get sugared and I contemplated for months while my friend raved about her experiences with Karen and sugaring. Scheduling: The appointment was easy to make via yelp chat with her. She was able to fit me in at the end of her day (going into her personal time) to make sure that not only did I get the sugaring bikini but also a facial and microderm treatment. Office: The office has a really cute aesthetic and was very warm and inviting. The space was very relaxing, warm lighting, cute decorations, and varieties of items for sale from local vendors, candies for clients on the counter and many different types of magazines available to flip through. Karen was very friendly and you feel at ease with her right away. It was my first time meeting her, but, I feel so comfortable, it's as if I knew her and was walking into a friend's home. Sugaring: I am extremely self conscious, but not only did Karen make me feel at ease but she helped make me feel confident and excited through this process. The actual experience of the sugaring was not as bad as I thought it would be. It was done in 10ish minutes. A bit of a surprise when she pulled the sugar off but not as bad as I was expecting. I was texting a friend and chatting with her while she did the sugaring. She made sure to explain each part of the process to me, as well as what ingredients were in the sugar. You could tell she took pride in her work and she is fantastic at it! When you are getting a personal treatment such as this, you want to make sure that you are going to a place that has the highest cleanliness and does not "double-dip" (as waxing places often do) and is very thorough in their cleaning. I appreciated that Karen paid attention to the little details that make a huge difference! Microderm/Facial: My skin has never felt smoother. It's been three days since my treatment and my skin is still very smooth. My moisturizer sinks right in! The microderm process was easy and the facial felt great! Payment and Scheduling: Super easy to pay at the end. I had bought a yelp deal and she had no issues with me using it then. I was able to schedule my first maintenance appointment at checkout and it was a super simple process, I received confirmation immediately after. She also sent me home with a sample of her sugar scrub! Bottom Line: This was my first time ever getting sugar'd because I was so scared of the pain, but Karen was amazing! She made me feel super comfortable and talked me through the process. I look forward to my next appointment! read more

Karen was great, but my results were not nearly as good as regular wax unfortunately. I got underarm sugaring and Brazilian sugaring. I have very sensitive skin, so it all hurts the same to me, if there's any difference in pain it's probably very small and unnoticeable between the two techniques, and Karen was extremely understanding and did her best to do small sections at a time to try and reduce the intensity of it. However when I left, I noticed a lot of hair still present. Also, Karen explained that because sugaring doesn't take off the top layer of skin (only the dead skin cells, unlike traditional waxing) so I would not be sore, painful, or red when I left the shop. Again I have very sensitive skin so I'm not sure if this is the norm, but I was red and sore for 2 days just like I am with regular wax. Because it's just as painful as regular waxing, and I still have soreness, redness, and swelling after the sugaring, plus the sugaring definitely did not get all of the hair, I would say waxing is better for me. I didn't notice the underarm hair that was still present until I got home, she even had me inspect it to make sure she got everything, but with the dim lighting I didn't notice how much had been missed until I got home. I ended up having to shave during my vacation since it was still noticeable in the sun. For the bikini area, I definitely noticed some hair still there during the appointment as there was some dark, long hairs still sparingly around my bikini area, but all of it would be covered when wearing a bathing suit and I knew my husband wouldn't really notice it so I didn't feel like she needed to keep going over the area to get every single hair, but again when I got home I had to pluck some hairs outside of my bathing suit boundaries, and there was still plenty of hair left over which has never happened in a traditional waxing session for me. It didn't look like a lot of hair, but once I started plucking what was left over in the bikini area, it definitely felt like a lot was left over, and for the pain being equal, I would say I will always just get waxed because I am definitely baby smooth after traditional waxing, the results are better and longer lasting, and the pain and cost is pretty equal. read more

I am a huuuge facial type of woman. I love love getting facials and i always had compliments on my facial complexion and I never use to do professional facials but now it's my thing. I recently moved and it's hard to find people to trust. So I found this place and I'm glad I did. Of course every esthetician does things different, she didn't steam me to open up my pores, which was strange but it's okay, I don't really question the professional but she didn't even extract either WHICH I found weird but yet good? Because maybe I didn't have build up but I guess I didn't feel satisfied without because I wanted to get steamed and extract LOL. Maybe it's just me though. She was great!!! I got my very first Brazilian sugar wax done today with Karen and she was absolutely wonderful! She made it a very comfortable and pleasant experience. She explained what the sugar wax was and how it works, she made conversation the entire time, and even took the time to show me her entire shop, got to know me, and told me about herself as well. As far as the the sugar waxing she was quick and made it as painless as possible. In the most sensitive areas she gave warning to take deep breaths. At the end she uses a warm towel to clean your waxed areas, which feel AMAZING after you just get waxed. I walked out of there with no pain or discomfort. I had to get a quick spray tan and saw her cute store on my business trip to Sumner one day. She was very polite and helpful on the phone. I was able to get in within a couple of hours. When I arrived she had great handouts for me to understand the product she was using. Her business was well decorated. Her rooms were private and I felt very comfortable. I love this place! Karen was the best!!! when I first arrived I was not thrilled about parking. It's on the streets and behind the building. ( it was so worth it lol) The location is very welcoming. I was greeted by Karen she was very nice. The inside of sugar shack was the cutest ever it had the the most beautiful antiques and decorations. It was like walking through my favorite areas in hobby lobby lol. Karen got me signed in and walked me to the bathroom to wash my hands. The bathroom was clean and neat. Karen used a different kind of sugar she showed it to me and explained a little about it. The sugaring was absolutely the least painful sugaring I have ever had. She didn't miss anything she was super thorough. My skin was not irritated at all. She chatted with me and explained things about the process. She definitely knew what she was doing. I just had my first-ever sugaring here, and was super impressed. The shop feels intimate and cozy, with cute decor, local bath and beauty products, and three different private bays where the waxing and facials are done. The owner walked me through the space on a tour, including the homiest store restroom I've ever been in. She was professional but warm, and told me all about sugaring and the products she uses while she worked. It was painful, but not overly so- I've had a leg wax a decade ago, which was much more painful (and damaging), and which also took longer. Within an hour and 20 minutes, my legs and lip area were hair-free with very little redness (which faded within an hour). She included after-care instructions, which I always appreciate, and really went above and beyond to ensure I felt comfortable and understood the sugaring process. I'm now a fan of sugaring, but even more so, a fan of the Sugar Shack. I've even booked my next appointment, and will eventually look into getting facials here as well (and maybe getting my nails done, as well, as they have a small nail salon inside the store). read more

I came to Sumner for work & immediately my skin started freaking out (tends to do that whenever I travel for work). I was breaking out so badly I didn't even want to go to work and I was using scarves, beanies, you name it to cover it up. I was tried every face wash and face mask you could imagine, nothing helped!
