    The Butterfly Cupcakery

It's time to thank the Northenden Markets one more time for introducing yet another awesome…read morecupcakery into my life. I should probably be telling them off actually, as the more great cupcakes I encounter, the more I just find myself HAVING to scarf them (rude not to), and thus turning to sponge myself. But the Cheshire-based Butterfly Cupcakery is just darling, its proprietor Amy an absolute doll and the cakes? Oh the cakes... What about a cupcake with a whipped marshmallow centre? Maybe one that resembles a Jammie Dodger or Oreo right down to the gooey jam in the middle, the shortcake biscuity-tasting outer sponge or the Oreo crumb-flecked frosting and choc chip cake both served with a mini version of their inspiration wedged on top? Or how about a light and airy cupcake laden with white chocolate frosting and a raspberry on top? They're just delicious. I snagged a box of four to take to my better half's little flatwarming and although I managed to smush them a bit on the way there (fail) they went down an absolute storm. The frosting is rich and delicious, and the cakes themselves have not even a hint of dryness to them. Mark of a good cupcake is always when the sponge is as interesting as the frosting, and these certainly ticked that box! This cupcakery sells at the South Suburban street markets regularly, and you can also grab them for catering, weddings, parties, all that celebratory stuff. Plus they're not merely limited to cupcakes - try their banana loaf, their famous carrot cake, a slice of lemon drizzle or indeed the brownies Amy makes which don't compromise on any ingredients... Green and Blacks chocolate chips anyone? You're positively salivating, I can tell. Get involved and don't miss out on these treats.

I'd only ever heard about Fancie and was desperate to try their delectable selection of cupcakes…read more So when mum and I went over to Meadowhall, we ended up leaving with five cupcakes from Fancie (amongst other things!) As it was a Monday, it was quite quiet and we were left alone to browse the selection on offer - of which there was a lot. We were told what the specials were for the day, then set about deciding on what we'd be taking home. We ended up with chocolate for dad, mint chocolate for the boyfriend, cappuccino for mum and red velvet for me. I also bought an extra one - praline. Everything was packaged up nicely by the friendly girls that were working and we went on our way with a bag full of sugary goodness. I can't say too much for what the others thought of theirs, other than the phrase 'om nom nom' was used multiple times! My praline cupcake was the richest, most delicious thing I've eaten. As well as chopped hazelnuts in the centre of the frosting, the frosting itself is chocolate and hazelnut. It was so rich I had to take two breaks to get through the entire thing! The red velvet was beautifully moist and had a very thick layer of frosting on top, drizzled with dark chocolate. It tasted gorgeous. So now that I've had my Fancie experience, will I go back for more? Hell yes. Except next time I'll end up with a box of four for me and a box of four for the boyfriend. Definitely give this place a visit if you're ever in Meadowhall!
