I visited in the winter to see the falls frozen over, and the park rangers had done an excellent job keeping the trail well maintained. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the waterfall, and there's very little elevation change along the way. North Rim trail entrance was close during winter due to ice and snow. But you can skip the dangerous part of the trail by parking at the Taughannock Falls overlook point and start hiking from there. Then you will reach the upper falls. Parking is only $10. lot is small so warmer weather probably will fill up pretty quickly.

I thought it was a fairly easy 1 mile hike out to the falls (though my coworker vehemently disagrees that 1 mile and easy belong in the same sentence - sorry Miss Sheila!), and there were some falcons swooping around. There is a fee to park, but were still spots remaining when we arrived. We should have received discounted parking with a Military ID, but the booth was unmanned that day, so we paid anyway. There is a restroom facility at the parking lot, and it wasn't bad. I actually think it was heated, so that was nice. I'd be interested in seeing the falls and hiking the upper trail when the weather is better!

The area is a little slippery with the rocks and you have to be careful to not turn an ankle. Not handicapped accessible to the falls aside from the view at the rim. The park includes a 1.6 mile-ish loop trail, plenty of picnic tables, barbecuing areas, a playground, and so on. The trail itself is nicely worn, and allows for various views of Little York Lake, and the place seems generally well maintained... including signage, plenty of garbage bins, clean pavilions, a basketball court, and all the basics. Yes, rt. 81 is right on the other side of the park. In most areas of the park, this isn't really an issue and the sound is more buffered by the trees. Of course, the closer you get to the side of the park near the highway, the more disruptive... but this is a minimal part of the park. Interestingly, this is one of the reasons I wanted to bring my puppy here... basically because it's important that he be introduced to all different kinds of noise/sounds so as to not be so skittish when they do arise unexpectedly. The highway is fairly separated from the park (by water), so it feels nice and protected to be in the park in case there is a reaction (it's not like there was a risk of him running into the road or anything). He actually had a great time wandering through the woods and was unbothered by the traffic noises. Pets are generally welcome, of course, as well as they're on-leash and their owner cleans up after them. All-in-all, an easy walk through a well maintained park. Very dog friendly as well. :)

There is a swim area by the bottom parking area. Both times I've visited this park it was closed due to being off season in October. $10 per car. You can use the receipt to enter any NY state park on the same day.

It's just kind of epic with the moss. It has like a micro climate to it where it gets a little bit temperate rainforest with ferns and moss and it's just beautiful. I think there's four routes total. It's basically the upper and lower gorge or the upper and lower rim trails. We have the dog we're feeling kind of tired so we did the upper trail which is like under a mile and it takes you straight to the Falls and some epic sites. I honestly haven't done the lower trail but it's on my bucket list. It's 3 miles. I've can't come here as a tourist previously and just wanted to go for the I guess the money shot as its called definitely recommend.

That said, I'll probably only visit during the off season (early spring or after Labor Day by a bit). I came here once with my dog and they're apparently very specific about dogs ONLY being in a little beach area. I wasn't letting him in the water anywhere else (I definitely want to be respectful of the main beach area and any swimmers), and he's always on leash when we visit, but I was followed around (from one end of the park to the other) by a member of the park staff during that previous visit with him They could never tell me what I was doing that they didn't like, but they kept trying to usher me out of wherever I was. Very weird and uncomfortable.

This review focuses more on the campgrounds. There are tons of campgrounds in the area, but this is a great option! The sites are large and spread apart. There are no tent pads but there is plenty of room to set up all your stuff. Each site includes a picnic table and campfire ring. There are no bear concerns so you don't have to take as many precautions. You can also head straight into the gorge from some of the campsites. The bathrooms have lights, water, flush toilets, and showers. They were very clean while we were there and spacious. There's also plenty of dumpsters for trash. You can purchase firewood at the registration office, where they also have maps, guides, and useful info. It's a great local camping option.

But it's a spectacular Park in Syracuse that is the highlight of the inner city SYR area. I like it even more than I like being Onondated by Dating prospects. This wonderful wooded park space is large and gorgeous much like my girlfriend. There are two sections, Upper and Lower, and both are lovely. Definitely the most relaxing place to hang out and people watch during the summer in the inner city area, and bettered only by Onondaga Lake Park (totally different) in the wider region.

And much bigger than I expected it to be…read more Situated along Owasco Lake, there are beach areas, a dog park, sizeable pavilions, a boat launch, and all sorts of spaces (the Merry-Go Round Playhouse Theater is also located in this park). My one complaint? There could certainly be more / better signage. When looking for the bathroom recently, the first closed one (over by Merry-Go Round) directed you to the large pavilion on the main (other) side of the park. When there, you were directed to actually use the bathrooms at the little league field (up near the entrance back on the other side of the park). Also, for newcomers who are trying to find the dog park or whatnot, some extra signage would be helpful (the dog park is kinda tucked away). TL;DR Very much enjoyed my recent visit here - I'll be back! :)
