So so glad my friend found this park! We were staying in the area and hoped to get in a hike while the Canadian smoke/air quality seemed reasonable. Fortunately because you're hiking in a gorge and in dense woods the air quality didn't bother us. And we were rewarded with a gorgeous hike! The hike was gorgeous, but definitely has lots of steps, so be warned. If you don't feel like hiking, there is a shallow (7ft deep) swimming hole with a lifeguard on duty, clean bathrooms and lots of space for picnics I would come back here again and recommend the park to others. read more

This was a nice walk to see the falls. The path is well marked and clear for walking. There are stairs. We found a 60 year old Chapman slide gate in the closed position. No handwheel at the top. Unlikely to be operational. Picture with red at the bottom. Years of Rust. read more

This place is an absolute treasure! I love the finger lakes and I've been everywhere and how I've missed this amazing place is beyond me. The gorge trail and rim trail were so beautiful and scenic we had an absolute blast here and I want to come back again very soon! There is tons of parking and trails and camping as well! After reading all the positive reviews, we made a point to stop at Fillmore Glen to do the Gorge trail. It was so beautiful, loved all the bridges and we saw 2 waterfalls. The trail is closed after bridge 7 so it's a relatively short walk (2 mi out and back). We did not do the 135 stone steps at the beginning tho! Luckily I found these directions that enabled up to bypass the steps and do an easier version of the hike: "When driving into the park, stay to the right past the initial parking lot and head up the Park Road a little ways. You'll soon come across another small parking lot for the Upper shelter area. . And across the way is another access trail to reach the gorge trail. There are restrooms at the Upper Shelter. The Gorge Trail starts to the left of rest rooms. (South Rim starts to right of rest rooms). There's a bit of an uphill climb from here but you'll bypass all the steps and most of the elevation gain. The trail is pretty easy from here." After we did the Gorge trail we drove down to the main parking lot again and walked a short way past the main picnic pavilion and swimming area to see a 3rd waterfall -- Cowshed Falls. read more

Decided to treat myself to a hike here since nature is my own personal form of therapy and was not disappointed! The gorge trail is phenomenal with breathtaking views and a great hike overall. I did venture onto the north rim trail from the gorge trail but found that to be boring in comparison... so i took the gorge trail all the way back. I love the giant pavilion by the parking area, and the swimming hole right at the base of the hiking trails. I will be back with my husband and daughter for a day of swimming; she will love it! And I wouldn't mind hiking that gorge trail again :) read more

Fillmore Glen is a top favorite state park of mine. I've only been here once so far, but I definitely want to go back again. When I went a couple years ago, a portion of the gorge trail was closed towards the end because they were working on a couple bridges. I can't wait to go back again to be able to hike the whole thing. Such a gorgeous park! read more

Fillmore State Park is similar to the popular attraction Watkins Glen State Park but less crowded, it has more private gorges & waterfalls you can hike down and swim in, and it's dog friendly!! Big plus. The park is $7 to get in. Hiking trails are about .5 miles to the right as you enter the park, and there's car parking at the top of the hill and the entrance to the trail just to the left of that. We hiked the entire gorge trail to the dam and back, it took us about 3 1/2 hours with some swimming in between. There are plenty of waterfalls and if you climb down you can swim right in the falls. The ground is slate & slippery, I recommend wearing sneakers with good grip. Some people were wearing velcro sandals and kept slipping/falling down. One thing we forgot was bug spray and once we got to the main gorge trail/forest we got eaten alive. Near the entrance of the park there's a nice picnic area, bathrooms, a small swimming spot for kids, and a volley ball net. I really love this place! We got there around 1pm on Saturday and it wasn't packed at all. Only a handful of people on the trails as we hiked through. read more

gorgeous spot! the we did the gorge and south rim trails, and loved it. it's pretty kid friendly, though does get a bit muddy in some spots. of course if your kids are like mine, that's only a bonus. there are clean restrooms and picnic spots. the best feature is the nature itself though. definitely worth a visit! read more

This campground is a gem-smaller than Watkins Glen, which means it is much less crowded. They have a great gorge trail with multiple bridges that cross the water. The waterfalls were beautiful, but be careful of your step on the slippery trail. The swimming hole was great and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I wish that we lived closer so that I could find an excuse to rent one of the pavilions! read more

Beautiful place. I live in California, and anytime I come out here to visit my best friend and God Daughter, I make sure to stop by.

I've been here twice. Once in the summer and half the trail was closed but it was really pretty the part that I could get to. Then I went in the winter and could not find any trails other than the several cross-country and snowmobile trails. I wish there were more signs of where to go but it was still a nice walk around to see the trees and campsites. Online maps didn't help- it needs signs. read more

Great little state park for a hike to the waterfalls or up and around the gorge. I've never stayed at the campground, but have walked in and around it. Its quiet, shady and very clean. Filmore Glen is a hidden little gem in the Finger Lakes, well worth a trip. We have been hiking and swimming here for 40 years. read more

My husband and I camped here for our honeymoon in late May/early June of this year. This place had it all! The campsite was large and grassy, no gravel here. -Clean bath houses with hot water for showers. -Nice trails around and to the top of the gorge it straddles. -And a beautiful waterfall (The Cowsheds) only about 4/10ths of a mile from our campsite. -They dam off and open the gorge for swimming on July 1st every year. -The rangers were friendly and even gave us tips for canoeing the local Owasco Lake and Inlet. If you visit here be sure to stop by The Gathering restaurant that's down rt 38 a little bit. Great place that uses only local ingredients! read more

Awesome awesome state park. The gorge trail is really nice with views of babbling brook, waterfalls, diverse tree species and rock strata. The hikes themselves arent super long but have just enough ups and downs for the savy or novice trekker. Tons of grills and picnic tables, bit of a walk from the car but that's what its all about. Swimming hole at the mouth of the gorge trail but not sure if they still lock it off to fill up with water or if they even staff lifeguards these days. Highly recommend checking out Fillmore Glen State Park. There's also a replica of Millard Fillmore's house on site. read more

Very nice little state park with a stream running through a small gorge. You can walk up a few different trails that run along the stream, there are a few waterfalls. You can get down close to the water in several areas. It is almost entirely a slate bottomed creek so be very careful walking in it, I have the stitches in my foot to prove that it is a terrible idea. Lots of open space for kids to play, a few different pavilions that can be rented out (there was a wedding reception going on when we were there). Great place to spend a day. read more

I really enjoyed hiking at Fillmore Glenn! I attempted to do the Gorge Trail but some of the bridges were closed so I couldn't see the waterfalls! So that was a bummer but I went up the South Rim Trail. And while this trail is steep at times, it led to an amazing view essentially on top of the waterfalls! I was there for about 2 hours and did both trails. It was $7 to enter the park and the bathrooms were surprisingly clean! read more

This is one of my favorite state parks to camp at. It's sort of like a little-sibling to Watkins Glen--a little less busy, smaller gorge, less popular. The gorge is very nice though and there doesn't seem to ever be much traffic on the trails. The other amenities are pretty standard for a NYS park--I think they put in a nice new playground area a few years ago. read more

In Skaneateles for the weekend and was looking for a good scenic hike to do and this did not disappoint!! It was exactly what me and my girlfriends were looking for--scenic, moderately challenging and not too long or short. We did the gorge trail which is about 1.5 mile out and then we also walked all the way to the dam so we probably did just over 3 miles within 2 hours. the map that you get at parking is pretty accurate. Parking is $7 and there are very clean restroom facilities at the pavilion. The gorge trail starts just behind the restroom facilities, past the swimming area. You'll see signs and there is a huge set of steps leading up. Good workout but not too tough though if you're not as mobile you may need to just take your time going up the stairs. After that, it's a nice trail along the creek/gorge, crisscrossing on bridges along the way. You'll see small waterfalls and hear the creek babble. The trail is well marked and easy to follow. Some parts were a bit muddy and wet but nothing too bad. After we reached the end of the gorge trail we connected to the north rim trail to get to the dam, then looped back out to the road that leads you back to parking (so the road is a car road not a trail). Nice long walk back downhill. Very enjoyable for anyone who likes to be active and also not too strenuous for people who are not either! Bring water and a snack. We held our wedding reception in the upper shelter last weekend. It was absolutely beautiful, and so easy to work with Betty on setting everything up! Reserving the space for Friday and Saturday along with the process of coupon entrance fees, last minute tent rental, and day of light bulb change, table moving all were so easy! The whole crew was amazingly helpful!! From the tractor guy that moved like 12 tables out of the way, to the maintenance workers who stopped to make sure everything was set (and then coming back to change a bulb I hadn't noticed when they first came by) to the office gate attendant who helped all our guests find the right place!! Everything was so hassle free and perfect! read more
