The best thing about Dr. Suh is that he's totally straightforward and doesn't play games. If you're being a bit dense about your health, he'll call you out on it--just in a nicer way! He gives you those reality-check answers that make you think, 'Duh, what was I thinking? I already knew that.' It makes you realize you're paying medical bills just to have him remind you of common sense, but lo and behold, you follow his advice and it works. Dr. Suh is the real deal; he tells you exactly what you need to hear and basically says, 'Stop acting silly, you know what to do, now go do it. He is def one of those guys where after talking to him, he will pose questions where you kinda say to yourself I hate it when he's right. Braddah is good. He'll cure you from the root of the prob, your job is stop acting stupid and follow his advice. His staff is awesome. I travel so I almost always have to cancel set appointments and they have done everything to accommodate me - gah they're rockstars! Dr Suh's staff (they're all kids there - but the responsible Asians you want your children to be like) This office also introduced me to one of the best non-big box local pharmacy in the entire state: 5 Minute Pharmacy. If you do not want to hear the truth from a doctor who has an honest bedside manner, don't go here. Dr. Suh is an honest, straightforward, tell-it-like-it -is kind of doctor. I went to him with all kinds of ailments claiming age and wear & tear. He asked about my eating and drinking habits, and gave me hard advice. My problem was I'm a beer drinker. I like my beer. Because of it, I was overweight, had nerve issues, elevated BP, and high cholesterol. He said, "Quit Drinking." I said I'd cut it down to weekends. He called me on it and said unless I stop, I will not get better. I stopped, cold turkey. 6 months later, I lost 55 pounds, my numbers (BP, Cholesterol, Sugars) are all great. My feet, knees, and my elbows don't hurt as much and are getting better every day. No meds, just great hard honest advice. Dr. Suh's response, "See! If patients would listen to a doctor's advice and stick to the plan...they will get results." He told me that it was patients like me who listened who keep him doing his job! I haven't been here in months due to my work schedule that's all over the place. But today I finally made a revisit for IV Drip for health & wellness. Nurse Kanna is the only one that administers this treatment. Once she came into the room, we easily pick up where we left off. I also met Dr Suh's wife for the fit time. They've updated one of the rooms and transformed it to a new space where two patients can be taken at once for IV. Don't go here. This guy is no good. He likes to prescribe lots of Duexis for anything. Back ache - Duexis. Head ache - Duexis. You fell and sprained something - Duexis. He must get a cut from every bottle he fills. He referred me to a lady doctor to have something looked at and I found out she had killed someone with the wrong medication. Same as his father did but his wife took the blame so he wouldn't loose his license. It's best to go somewhere else. read more

It's hard to find a place to be listened to about truly bad experiences with health care, but I feel businesses like this need to be exposed. Seeing a doctor is about care and wellness; this office offers the opposite. I was recommended to see Dr. Suh through HMSA after arriving in Hawaii and being in need of a personal physician. The standards complaints about many doctors apply here: long wait times in the lobby, difficulty scheduling appointments, long wait times in the exam rooms. The following are the reasons I feel I need to share how awful this office is and warn others to stay away. Follow-up and check-ups are non-existent. If you do not schedule appointments for an annual physical, you'll never hear from them. There is no sense of care of wellness from this office, everything is about how much money they make off your insurance and you personally through co-pays. The staff here seem helpful, but there's a certain language barrier from many when dealing with patients (this issue does not exist with Dr. Suh himself). Dr. Suh is a blank slate when talking to him. It felt like talking to a script; as if I was meeting him for the first time over and over again. I had to tell him details that were literally right in front of him in my chart, every single time I came. The last straw and most egregious thing that angered me was a slew of unnecessary tests. Being new to how insurance worked, I let them scam me into doing tests that were only partially covered by insurance, without any explanation or warning. Lesson learned on my part. Shame on them for trying to pay for a new machine through people that simple don't need the services of what it does. Save yourself time and frustration, go somewhere else. read more

visiting Waikiki and had flu~like symptoms so decided to go see hi. He didn't take my insurance but knew that so was ok with paying cash. Made an appointment and after about a 40min wait, finally saw him. He asked me what my symptoms were, told him coughing and sore throat. He checked my breathing with a stethoscope in 2 places on my chest and tells me to take it easy and rest. Calls in a prescription for cough and antibiotics. He literally saw me for 3 mins and charged me $150. Don't mind the $150, but would've liked to have had a decent evaluation. Can not recommend read more

Dr. Philip Suh has been my doctor for close to a year now. And I am so happy that I made the decision to switch over to him from a friend's recommendation. Dr. Suh and his father share a practice together. There are located on the 14th floor of the Ala Moana building. There is a private lot for paid parking, but I park at Ala Moana and walk over. (Don't worry. I shop at Ala Moana before or after my appointments.) The waiting area fits about 10-15 people. The place can get packed, so sometimes I see people waiting outside. Dr. Philip Suh is awesome. He tells you what you need to do and what to expect. My main reason to go to Dr. Suh was to figure out why I had so may sinus infections. He did a full panel of tests & discovered I was allergic to many things. Not only do I have a better handle on my allergy situation, I lost some weight, too. For me, Dr. Suh is such a great support. Choosing to switch over to Dr. Phillip Suh as my primary care practitioner has changed the course of my entire life! If you are struggling with your weight please take this leap of faith and schedule a consultation with him. For years after high school I could always eat whatever I want but never have to worry about gaining any weight. I noticed once I started to use birth control (nuva ring) I gained weight so drastically. Now I didn't believe it when people would tell me they gained weight from birth control. At first, setting up an appointment I had to wait about a month as a new patient. I figured he was worth the wait and scheduled the appointment. It was actually my Nurse Practitioner who did my lip filler at Dr. Shim Chings Office to tell me to see him and boy did that suggestion change my life! The staff is friendly and even gives me reminders of my upcoming appointments. More conveniently it is a few blocks away from my home. The office is new and clean. Unfortunately, I do not believe he takes Quest. In December 2017, I visited him with concerns of my weight from eating too much and working too little lol. Lets just say 2015-2017 I was living my best life which included a lot of red wine, steak, lobster and desserts. In November of 2017, I even started observing irregularities in my menstrual cycle. At this point I knew I needed to get my sh*t together. I told Dr. Suh my concerns and of course he tested my blood and the results came back that I was borderline, if not already, pre-diabetic and pre-gout. This was the lowest point of my life physically which in turn somewhat discouraged me mentally. People pay hundreds and thousands to have the epiphany I had when trying out Dr. Suh's regimen. Most of it is logic, self will and common sense. People say go to the gym and work for it. Lets just keep it all the way honest, I want to lose weight with the minimal amount of effort with the fastest result and this is possible. Dr. Suh challenged me to drinking water and eating salad with as much dressing as I wanted for an entire week as well as utilizing his prescriptions. This was only for a week to show me the capabilities of his weight loss technique. Let me tell you I was miserable towards the ending of the challenge but as I stepped on the scale I notice myself losing 2-3 pounds every morning resulting to 16 lbs in just 1 week. Hand To Bible. This was definitely motivating because every other program out there they tell you 1-2 pounds a week is what you can expect after spending a couple hundred dollars. Im sorry my patience isn't mapped out that way and if I can lose weight for $20 a month I will take that instead! lol I asked myself what could a doctor advise me to do that I already don't know myself? He taught me a few things: 1. Food is a drug. When you're overweight you have been abusing your drug. When you take away your drug you will withdraw from it (the feeling that we are starving ourselves 1 hour into our "diet" and then give up and make some excuse about how diets are for losers) 2. If you observe allll the weight loss regiments out there what is the common denominator? !!!CREATING A CALORIE DEFICIT!!! Whether it is Herbal Life Shakes, Body By Vi, Weight Watchers or any other diet, all of these programs create a system that encourages you to decrease your calorie intake by substituting meals or just consuming less calories. The only difference is the price and the amount of energy that is required. Currently, I am less 46 lbs of my heaviest. I eat whatever I want even though I know if I did diet I would probably be at my target weight right now. I do not diet and I do not work out daily. Do I think that I want to do this forever? I always feel well taken care of when I go to see Dr. Suh. At the very first appointment he ordered a full panel of labs to see what was going on with me. I have always complained of being tired, fatigued, and cold, but no dr I had seen before ever could tell me why. After doing the labs Dr. Suh told me that I had low thyroid, and that was causing my symptoms. I would have never know this if it wasn't for him, and would continue to feel those terrible symptoms! He is super thorough and truly takes the time to address your issues, which is probably the reason for the longs wait times that everyone is complaining about in the other reviews. The office staff is also very friendly and Kanna the NP is also amazing! I see her once in a while when Dr. Suh is booked, and she is very compassionate, knowledgeable, and extremely thorough! She also does some cosmetic stuff like Botox and thread face lifts, and also IV hydration/vitamins (perfect for hangovers!). I would definitely recommend him if you are looking for a primary care doctor. read more

Dr. Phil is really attentive. Listens well to your concerns and makes appropriate recommendations after explaining to you what condition(s) you may have and what your treatment options are. He uses great analogies that you can relate to. I travel a lot and Dr. Phil always thinks about where I'm going and what medications I can take with me just in case I need them. Things that I wouldn't think about on my own, but has really come in handy when I'm traveling. I feel Dr. Phil is very pleasant and has a positive attitude. I would highly recommend him. read more

They got me in when other places wouldn't rush me in. English and Korean are spoken, so no problem. Just feels like I'm back in Seoul. A nice break from ur normal clinic. Some visits are super fast, some others I had to wait over 30 mins. I feel Dr Suh genuinely cares. Most doctors seem to think of me as a file. That too is a nice change up. read more

Dr. Suh is a hard one to review as TBH I feel like all the reviewers were spot on so I think the real answer is YMMV. So let me start off with the positives here: his staff is friendly, Dr. Suh himself is as well plus he never rushes you and he does the little things like remember your family, job, etc (even if he simply review records notes to remind him before he walks in; at least he makes the effort). He's really into monitoring (expect blood work quarterly the rest of your life) but I don't take that as a negative as most doctors don't follow manufacturer or association guidelines around this and under monitor in practice, i.e. lots of medication will say something like "check blood levels, take meds, check again, repeat until stabilized" and then doctors are like "Don't care, just take these and they will call me if they notice a ADR or die", i.e. "how dare a manufacturer expect me to monitor if the changes in their magic bullet I prescribed work or not" or "how dare a patient want to know if his new BP medicine works before next years checkup" whereas Dr. Suh will actually monitor and adjust a necessary and that is a positive. Also the new location is better as well with parking, etc. On the negative side the wait times are unacceptable and Alexander hits it with there is zero follow-up and that goes from visit scheduling, test or specialist result discussions, reminders, etc; they don't even get discussed at your quarterly follow-up lol. Still outside that Dr. Suh is known for being a huge advocate of better living through chemistry (outside pain medication / mental health which he is stingy on) and that may or may not put you off. If you can't sleep and want some pills, Dr. Suh is good for you. If you want to lose weight and want some pills, Dr. Suh is good for you. If you have X issue (not counting pain or mental health) and the fix is a pill, Dr. Suh is good for you; some people like that, some don't. On the downside if you have no issues but just want a checkup, Dr. Suh will find some pills for you anyways which you didn't even know you needed. And God forbid if can't sleep and DON'T want pills, well Dr. Suh won't help that. Really if you have ANY issue and the fix isn't a pill or losing more weight Dr. Suh really won't help you on that one. See that last part is what caused me to finally change doctors after a couple years. I got sick of every time I went in the answer being lose weight because (1) even if true obviously that isn't going to happen, it's chronic, and it won't fix my acute issue which is bringing me in (i.e. a broken arm) and (2) it's not usually true. The final straw was when I went in for a spreading leg infection (pus, fever, and all) I got from deep cutting myself on a reef snorkeling (ended up being MRSA) and his diagnosis was "You got an infection because you are overweight. Lose weight and it will resolve itself. Here are some pills for weight loss.". Went to urgent care on the drive home to get antibiotics instead and changed PCP the next week. I have friends that swear by Dr. Suh and have used him happily for twenty years; friends that can finally sleep because of him, lost eighty pounds and kept it off because of him, etc. Still for every one of those friends I have another one that got sick of his blaming everything on fat no matter how obvious it wasn't in an acute sense, "Oh you broke your leg falling down on a hike, well that is because you are fat, lose weight and it will heal" or walking in with sore throat and leaving with twenty prescriptions ranging all over the place and not one of them having anything to do with ones throat. And hence the three stars because depending on the sort of person you are (and what you are seeing him for), he's really a one star or a five star. His style works for some people and doesn't work others. PS: Speaking as a practice and not Dr. Suh himself, I actually like the PA that works there. I found her caring and competent and, if I ever had to go back or if you were going to go for an acute issue, would schedule with her instead. She plays gatekeeper but she is good at it and I feel, uncharitably, that she provides better primary care. read more

The people in this office don't seem to understand English very well so it's difficult to communicate with them. Their office hours also aren't great and there is no answering machine to leave a message. I've been with this doctor for a few years now, but each time I go back I'm not thrilled with the service so I'm going to be looking for another one. read more

Dr Philip Suh said eating only lettuce permanently is healthy. He is horrible at listening to his patients or taking into consideration their concerns. He wasn't thorough or took time to get any background information. When I tried to share the history his answer was I don't need to know it - you either do it my way or I am not your doctor. A friend of mine recommended Dr P Suh. The whole experience from arrival to departure was unfriendly and cold. The waiting room which is very small to start with was cramped with patients. I preferred to wait outside of the office instead of rubbing shoulders with coughing patients. Dr Suh was very formal and repeated the typical phrases that you can hear from any doctor or you can read on any medical webpage. Follow up appointment was even worse, he didn't really care to go into details of the blood test. This doesn't make you really feel like cared. It makes you feel that you are just a $ sign and the sooner they get you out of the office is the better for them. Multiple Asian languages are used at the front desk so the girls talk to you in English and then turn around and speak in another language and giggle. You say thank you when you leave and you don't even get a response. Overall it's not a professional behavior at the front desk and you can even say it's rude. The overall treatment made me feel like I was not in United States but I was in a more restrictive foreign country. I will be looking for a new primary care physician. read more

I saw this horrible man twice. Both times he yelled at me, fat shamed me (yes fat "it's your fault you are fat)." Ran 1hr late both times. He told me to write down everything I eat in a week and come in with it. He never looked at it just claimed I ate too much. That's what he continues to say over and over again yet doesn't even ask what I'm eating. Anytime I tried to speak he would speak over me and tell even louder. When I try to explain my lab work he continued to say "no you eat too much; that's why." I couldn't take anymore so I ran out of the room crying. The staff was lovely and came to my side. They said he can be like that with people that come in with weight problems. The scariest thing is he also is a pediatrician. My last words to him were "I hope you dont yell at any children like this...and you have no idea what bedside manner is." I have seen doctor since I was six years old. This doctor was absolutely horrible to me and my mother who was with me. I would never recommend him to anyone. Someone like this should not be working in his field. Last week I went along with my father to see Dr Philip Suh. I live in the mainland and was the first time seeing this new doctor that my father recently found in a korean directory. The location and parking were okay but there were a few things that set off the alarm for me. This guy is a pediatrician who should be seeing babies and kids and NOT my 76 year old father with diabetes, heart disease and bad knee arthritis !!! I tried to ask the staff there about this but did not get a straight answer. Also, the doctor spends way too little time with my father who has many chronic issues and questions and who can speak korean only. The doctor spoke only simple and broken Korean. I sat quietly and respectfully in the exam room with my father but this did not seem right for my father. I had to answer most of the questions. After we left I did some more research and found a good family medicine doctor (NOT pediatrician) who can communicate with my father and who is properly trained and licensed to give medical care to my father. read more

Has no manners. Very rude. I had just gotten hit by car and because I was emotionally sensitive at the time.. (obv because I just got hit by a car... )lol. He had the audacity to tell my mother straight in the face to raise her kid better and that the reason why I got hit by a car in the first place was because I was too drunk and that j walking was my mistake.... very insensitive.... to a young teen at the time , &to a struggling mother... whether the kid was rude or not , still does not give you ANY right to tell ANYONE how to raise there child or not. Lol by the way, Dr Phillip I know your dad use to run that practice first. I stopped going to your dads office and switched to you because as a kid I felt sexually harassed and my parents felt unsafe with me around him too. Your father is disgusting. YOU are disgusting.
