A few notes today: *The spa is located on the 6th floor of the Weinmeister Hotel (in the general area of U-bahn Weinmeisterstrasse, the M1 tram stop for Weinmeisterstrasse/Gipsstrasse when you go south and Hackescher Markt going north or Hackescher Markt S-bahn stop itself). When you enter the front door (with the "street art" on it), you have to have the staff let you into the elevator/lift area since you don't have a keycard. You just say that you have an appointment at the BeautySpa and hoped they could let you in to the elevator. I speak German, but the hotel staff speaks English very well. *Pedicure was excellent. You have your own private room and recline with cookies, tea, lemon water. Good quality color selection. Service was excellent. Cost was 55 Euro for pedicure and color. Most of their prices are online, though, so you can check those out. The woman I worked with spoke some English but we stuck to German since she feels more comfortable with that. She is Italian, so she speaks that as well. *They accept cash, Visa, Mastercard and EC-card (which is a German/European type of card). Overall, recommended.

Then they used a towel to clean her face, not a facial cloth but a big towel. To top it off, they used Balea products from DM for the facial and really cheap nail polish. I didn't get into my room by 2:15pm and the massage ... or err should I say petting session of my face, ended right at 2:45pm actually it was 2:44pm -- so dissatisfied.

You enter the facility, and you are given a key to a locker, and a towel. You go into your gender's changing room, strip down completely and put your clothing in a locker, emerging with only a towel. From there, you wander into one of the saunas, placing the towel on the wooden seat. Forget the towel, and you'll most certainly be corrected by one of the attendees of the proper protocol. Germans are very polite, but they won't hesitate to tell you when you are breaking the rules. If you are lucky, you'll get to experience the Aufguss ritual, in which an attendant will come into the sauna once everyone is seated, pour water on the hot stones to create steam, and then expertly whip a towel around to hit each person in the face with the hot steam. I'll never understand the point of the ritual, just that it appears to be an essential part of the Germany experience, and I didn't want to deny myself this experience. An hour later I leave the wellness lounge, fully refreshed and warmed up - the hangover from last night now a distant memory.
