This funeral home was THE WORST I have ever encountered!!! The Funeral Director, Desmond is EXTREMELY unprofessional and VERY VERY rude. He called a member of our family up the night before the funeral and asked that she bring him cash because he did not want to pay merchant fees to Visa or MasterCard!!! Further, he spoke to and attempted to enter into a contract with, a member of the extended family who did not have Power of Attorney to make decisions on behalf of the deceased. He never even questioned or inquired of the nursing home who the POA was for the deceased. Later, he was much disgruntled in his attitude toward the family members who did have POA, that chose to have a smaller and less lavish funeral. (He was only concerned about the money he would not receive as oppose to the wishes of the family members in charge). Further, he NEVER once offered the habitual and expected condolences to the family members, but repeatedly told us that he was giving us "a good deal" because other homes in the area charge more which is completely false! He is actually more expensive, way less professional, and WORST of all, he pulled a "bait and switch" with the casket. He charged the family for a very expensive black casket with "bells and whistles", but on the day of the funeral the deceased appeared in a plain casket that was completely different from that which was promised! The casket he provided was plain without any bells and whistles. The Funeral Director provided no explanation as to why or how this happened, and refused to reimburse the family for the difference between the more expensive casket and the one he provided the day of the funeral. Further, he refused to even address the matter by not returning a single phone call nor email! Summerton Funeral Service is really low brow, the Funeral Director is a scandalous snake who attempts to exploit and take advantage of vulnerable people who are suffering emotionally. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, if you want to be treated fairly and respectfully, and be provided quality service, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES use this funeral home. They are not up to par with other providers in how they operate their business, the appearance of the business, and the morals and professionalism of the staff. read more
