The class of 2024 has been robbed. There is no reason they should be having their graduation on the…read morefootball field. This limits attendance and creates an obstacle for people with disabilities. The prom was a joke. $47 dollars for chips, lemonade and reeses peanut butter cups. There was a time when the proms they put on were beautifully decorated, great food and places to catch your breath between dances. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because of a handful of great teachers. There are too many students in classes. The city should have split the high school years ago but..."oh our band. oh our football". This is what they cherish, not students. There are a dozen elementary schools feeding into one high school. If you have other options, skip this high school.

I first enrolled my daughter into this "school" after she completed the 9th grade. A few weeks…read moreafter they found out she had a seizure disorder they began tormenting us about having a meeting for a 504 plan. That being said we went to the meeting and laid out the accommodations we thought would best serve her needs, signed it and we were under the impression all her teachers would know what to do should she have a seizure during school hours. Well, no more than a week later she has a seizure in one of her classes and the teacher does nothing. She convulses, falls out of her desk and continues convulsing for a reported five minutes until a classmate was able to locate her rescue medicine. After this incident her anxiety became so bad about going to school that seizures increased. After all this we pulled her out of the high school and placed her in BAVA. She graduated tonight no thanks to the staff of Broken Arrow High School. The only reason they had us fill out the 504 plan was to check a box for more funding. They didn't give two shits about my daughter. Do not enroll your kids in this school if you are expecting a caring environment.

Sadly, we have decided to withdraw our family from the school…read more Some Pros: Many of the support staff and faculty care about and help one another. Many on staff are clearly called to be in education. Parents and students are often supportive. Most students give effort, listen, and are respectful. Some Cons: The workload for employees is too much for the pay. Such things impact the quality of the education. Administrative assistants are asked to do the job of 2 people for poor pay. 6 different preparations for secondary teachers is considered a "normal load" and elementary teachers may be asked to do some middle school sections or other work for no more pay. Teachers may be asked to "cover" for others during their plans for no additional pay or benefit several times a month. This reported decision also negatively affects the education. The Headmaster has informed teachers that they must teach extra courses for no additional pay in the middle or the end of summer with little time to prepare or be forced out at times. Some teachers have reportedly worked without a contract. Leadership has appeared to try to hide things from teachers, staff, parents, and students. Students and parents sometimes wonder where the Headmaster is. The Headmaster may miss some weeks each semester. Leadership can be thin-skinned and vengeful if a concern is brought up by parents, students, staff, or faculty. Leadership communicates and disciplines poorly. Parts of some floors are crumbling or bowing due to foundational issues. The ceiling leaks in places in hallways, so water drips when it rains. Leadership has placed buckets below leaks for years. So, the school is taking on water, but the leadership lacks work ethic, consistency, kindness, patience, generosity, and vision. A change of leadership could return the school to better days.

If you have therapeutic adopted children or foster care children, know that ILCA isn't equipped to help your kids. Sports are most important at this school. The teachers are full of grace and mercy but to a fault. Since sports are so important, there are so many redos for kids to be eligible to play on these small teams. The standardized test scores were consistently low for my therapeutic adopted son, nearly identical for 3 years straight. One of my biggest regrets has been sending my kids to this school. It's been detrimental to their development. It was a good fit for my daughter in the 3rd grade, but high school was a different story. My daughter is thriving now at her new school academically and spiritually. We didn't know what we didn't have until we had it.
