This particular rest stop in Baker Valley has a gorgeous view of the valley just before the start of the Blue Mountains. Much of it is still rural farmland, you can't help but look out and think about the pioneers that passed through and eventually settled this land. Amazing! I also like that Oregon has put in mini museums or interpretive stands at many of the rest stops. The one here has pictures and stories about the pioneers that came west on the Oregon Trail wagon trains. Very interesting to read and learn more about the area. Amenities wise: this rest stop has all the standard things you'd expect: bathrooms, water, vending machines with snacks, picnic tables, etc. We've stopped here several times over the years and generally find everything clean and in good working order.

Individual sites include water and electricity and there are also tent-only and group sites.. From Boise, it's about the same distance as going to McCall, but the drive along the freeway is much easier. The campground is also available for day use; many picnic tables are spread out between campsites and the lake. A paved trail circles the lake for walkers and bikers. We really enjoyed our stay here and look forward to a return visit.

About 1/2 the park appears to be full timers and everyone we met was friendly. Showers are clean and well lit, as is the laundry ($2.25). Very little road noise. The view is spectacular! Lots of good places to eat just a few minutes away (Sweet Wife bakery and Inland Cafe were both worth returning to). There's a nice big Albertsons grocery and a big Ace Hardware. Great little town!

But for a family with kids who want to play, you'd probably rater be at Sumpter Pines. We got a last minute reservation for this place. and when we got there we understood why. It looked like a construction site. There was minimal shade coverage, piles of gravel and dirt, and it felt like a vehicle maintenance lot. There was nothing about the place that captured the beauty of the surrounding area, and Sumpter is lovely. We had paid, but just left without asking for a refund. I gave it two stars instead of one because the staff was so nice. Also, I heard the couple just bought the place and are working on it.

The other two suites were vacant. So we had this spacious house to ourselves. Close to downtown. Hosts were very responsive and available.

Emailed the Blue Door Inn on 2/25/2022 and inquired about reserving a room. Received a reply…read morestating they would send me an invoice, to make a reservation. After three days, no communication from the owner(s). Called and emailed the owner(s) on 2/28/2022. Left a voicemail and an email message, asking them to contact me and expressing my desire to make a reservation. It is now 3/5/2022 and still no reply to my emails or phone call. We really wanted to stay here but, the owners are obviously inattentive. Not good.
