if you are looking for a community that closely resembles BIG BROTHER and a bigoted one at that, SCOV is for you! The members of the "Beautification Committee" are a few select individulals who drive around and critique the yards and homes of the residents to ensure no infractions of the HOA guidelines are found. Unfortunately they are not uniform in enforcing their standards. A very small piece of metal and stone yard art that sat for two years in a yard was one day deemed inappropriate for this community while other residents freely display quilts, tacky cardboard holiday decor, Christmas lights year round and other garish items. This is the tip of the iceberg in this community. It is a perfect place for the unimaginative narrow-minded haters that reside here. Most residents display an absolute intolerance for anyone who appears "different" from the all Caucasian right-wing leaning religious folk that inhabit the community. My years spent here were the most miserable in my life, not just in terms of the weather but in terms of the attitude of many of the community members who for some ridiculous reason, think they are better than the next person. This is a standard middle class community, made up of mostly retired people from the mid-west. Perhaps a few truly wealthy people do reside in Sun City Oro Valley but it certainly is not The Hamptons. Tell that to some residents who act as if it were. The art displayed outside the center is tacky, the cafe' even tackier and despite the bragging about the golf course, it's not all that. The Golf Club staff leaves much to be desired in terms of talent as well as public relations, Kim Griggs being most egregious in her shabby treatment of members. I do reserve high praise for Norma Meyers at the office who is always gracious and kind as well as Mary who heads up the Landscaping department. Unfortunately these two stellar human beings do not make up for the poor attitude of the staff and many residents. I've lived in Sun City Oro Valley for 10 years. It's a great place with many amenities, lots of free activities & friendly neighbors. During the time we've been here the facilities have been updated.
