Wow....never been turned away from a business before. I walked in with my husband to get a massage. They said they were too busy and to come back at 830pm. When I tried to make reservations and communicate which massage we wanted with a lady (with very limited English), a man walked out from a hidden office, saying to go to Monterey for massage because they're too busy. I still don't know what happened, the place was empty. I was very perplexed as how a business with no costumers is so busy. I definitely don't recommend this place, why bother. The smell ( the rooms smell fine but if you go on their lunch break and they just used the microwave you might smell there lunch BE REASONABLE PEOPLE they are human and have to eat too!) or 3. the ladies speaking in their own language! (If your gonna give someone a review based on nationality and language it's just wrong!) I judged based on skill and skill alone! If you want a good massage this is the place ! I have never felt more insulted in my life then I did when I entered this place. So it was about 10am My mom and I decide to check this place out. As we are walking towards the place one of the workers sitting down saw us and pointed to the lab corps. As if assuming we were in the place. My mom and i looked at each other and were like no. ( we weren't looking our best my mom was in sweats and I was just wearing jeans and hoodie but I don't think this should have mattered) Then my mom and I shake our heads and we open the door, this is when the lady sitting down stands up. It smelled horrible inside! Regardless, I ask her do we need to make any reservations and how much is it. The lady who was sitting down only pointed to the direction of the flyers that held the prices. She didn't speak one word to me and talked with the other co worker in their language. I decided to give this place another go just for the hell of it, figuring that in 3 years they'd have either a new owner or new employees and might have improved. Yes they have, but there are still strange issues for the unwary. First of all, although Yelp says they take credit cards, there's a large sign which states 'Cash Only,' AND you must pay them that cash IN ADVANCE. No other reputable foot massage place that I've ever seen does this. Bizarre. I opted for the 60 min combo, body and feet. First oddness, I was supposed to undress down to my underwear. No other place I've gone to for a combo does that, you just take your top off and pull your pants down a little in the back. Oil was definitely used, unlike my other visit, and the massage itself was fine if not inspired. The combo massage didn't include any hot stones, which some do for the same price. It also, totally unlike any other foot massage place, does NOT include the part of the massage where they do your head, face, neck and arms. She did literally ONLY my back, my legs, and my feet and nothing else. When I asked, I was told that the combo was ONLY feet and back and nothing else. Bit of a rip-off. If you're used to Purity or Monterey Foot Spa and what they include and charge for each category, pay very close attention to what each category includes, as it's not the usual and you might not receive what you're expecting. Also, if you want just a regular foot massage, it's shortened to 45 min instead of 60 min, for the price of a 60 min foot massage everywhere else. They're better than they were, and the massage was competent, but I find their business practices odd and slightly creepy. I don't know how they stay open when there are 3-5 more professional, cheaper and nicer foot massage places within a 10-15 min drive and one only a few hundred yards away, who don't do all the weird cheap crap. Your masseuse or masseur puts your feet into a warm bucket of water, while they begin to massage you at the head. In the hour you get massaged, every appendage connected to my torso (well, 5 out of six, this isn't a place of happy endings!) was addressed, including my torso, and even my gluteus maximus got a little. My little middle aged masseuse had soft, very warm hands, but had the strength to almost make me cry uncle a few times. You don't have to take off your clothes, only your shoes and socks. Men can take off their shirts. Your attendant will use a combination of techniques, and some massage cream in certain areas. Caution: if you are sensitive, let them know, as they drive hard into your muscles, probably challenging your wince reflex. But I felt great after, relaxed and revived. I believe this is a new place & it's completely understated. It's in a strip mall (where Pho King is) in Seaside not facing the street. Also, they say they're a foot reflexology/foot massage parlor, but the foot massage options include head, neck, shoulder, back arm, & hands. So you're really getting a lot more than what it seems. The people here were friendly & the atmosphere is nice. During the massage they kill the bright lights & have soft & ambient lighting. Real chill instrumental music plays in the background. They have about 8 fancy motorized recliner chairs that are really pillowy & comfortable. They also have an area blocked off with curtains that can close all the way around which I assume is for the full body massages. I went with the 1 hour foot massage for $24.99. It came out to $20 after I unlocked a Yelp check-in offer of 10% off your first visit. The gentleman that did my massage took his time. He started with my face head and neck and eventually massaged my whole body. The massage was just over an hour long & I really enjoyed it. Especially for that price! Whenever I am in a new area, I use Yelp to search what is nearby and a fan favorite. As I walked inside, I stood at the desk and waited, and waited. When the Woman finally greeted me in English, and offered Services in English, I showed her my 10% discount check in offer. She told me she did not know, and did not speak English. I showed her my phone and explained that it was clearly a check in from her business with Yelp. I am very clear that she DID understand, and was not being fair to me. I did not receive services here. This place is hit or miss. Sometimes it's FANTASTIC and I walk away feeling relaxed (this is usually when I have a female masseuse and not the guy with the Bluetooth in his ear). Other times, I just like the first half. My main issue is no matter how much I tell them to be gentle, when they get to my back, they use their forearms and elbows to massage me, instead of their hands. And that HURTS. I don't like that AT ALL. Once I hit that part I know I'm gonna walk away with a back that hurts way more than I started. They didn't used to do this and now I'm hesitant to go when I used to go 2-3 times a month. No one wants a hard elbow poking your back. I'd rather you ask where it hurts the most and focus on that. I decided to try this place again and unfortunately, I will not be coming back. The two Asian ladies were rude and the place smelled like fish. Both ladies continue to speak in their language and it just makes me feel uncomfortable. The massage was not good and when I asked the lady if she could massage more deeper, she said something in her language and was making sounds as if she was massaging a freakin elephant. For $25 dollars (and a great tip), I received a full-body massage for 90 minutes, with water delivered to me. I requested full body, but one can ask for specific areas. I purchased the 5 visits, get the 6th free for $125. I am taking my girlfriend in two days, and we will both get massages. CONS: Their inability to speak English caused some potential and returning customers to walk out. Just speak slowly, be patient and respectful, and spell out everything. It's just a communication barrier, not a scam. Also, be prepared to be in a large room with others receiving massages. I did not expect the massage to occur in an open (not private) room. PROS: BUT it was clean, very low lighting, choice to keep clothes on/off (I took off only my shirt so I could get my upper extremities a good massage, as clothing really gets in the way), and there were beautiful music and water fountains around. Don't let the outside and the location in a strip mall deceive you. This is a great little location, clean and well equipped. Went in as girlfriend was treating us to full body massages. You remain fully clothed and have your feet soaked in a bucket of hot water. The technique is totally different to what I am used to, but nonetheless a fantastic value for the price. I will be back. Went there for the first time while on vacation and will not be going back! I had a gift certificate and the lady argued with me stating that was not the right place. Wild goose chase. I called the number listed and the woman who answered said yes, at 9:18pm, I could have a massage. I told her I'd arrive in 5 minutes. I arrive and the "open" sign was off and the door was locked. I called back. She said "where are you"..."I'm standing outside". After going to two other foot massage places in downtown Monterey with so-so results and blah service, we recently found a new place (4 months) we absolutely love in Seaside, CA. Located close to our favorite Vietnamese restaurant, Pho King, Sun Foot Spa is wonderful find. Both masseuses, Helen and Tony, are well-trained in the healing art of foot reflexology and all-over, from crown to toes massage. I take all my family and friends there on a regular basis. Tip well to keep this business in business as it's hard to find a high quality foot massage place that's this clean and honest. My daughter and I actually walked out of the last foot massage place in downtown Monterey because of the generally disreputable practices common in these sorts of foot massage, aka "thug massage." The guy I had was really sick; coughing and sneezing, wiping his nose on his sleeve while massaging me. When I complained that it was wrong to have a sick employee working on customers, all I got was a "sorry, sorry" and the guy began working on someone else. These older places are stinky, moldy and more expensive than the new Sun Foot Spa place...$25 of indifferent foot massage instead of $20 of professional foot reflexology massage. I purchase the membership card because of their fair and generous practice of allowing anyone with you to use your card. There was frequent interruptions where she had to leave me during the massage and assist the coming in and going out customers. I happened to see this foot spa with grand opening sign when I drove by. My leg was still hurting me few weeks after a very long hiking trip. I had one body massage a week ago, but didn't help much. So I thought to give this new place a try. It was a total surprise that my pain was almost completely gone after wards and I am pain free last few days. The girl who did massage for me is nice and skillful. When I told her my leg pain, she got the right touch right-way and soon I felt the relief. WARNING under new ownership. I used to love going there it was very relaxing and enjoyable.. I hadn't been in several months and noticed when i entered there were all new people. No big deal or so I thought. The first issue was the smell , which was somewhat offensive. But the biggest issue was that employees talked and laughed with each other during the whole massage. Not very relaxing. The women who massaged me burped often and was chewing gum very loudly. The message itself was very rough and the employee left numerous times and would stop the massage if she was interested in what her coworker had to say At the end of the session i grudgingly gave a 5 dollar tip. I would have paid more. This is extremely amazing value for the price. My experience was, I walked into a dim lit room, that had a nice scent, spacious, with all the massage tables spaced out in the same room. You sit at the edge of this bed, and place your feet into just the right type of warm water. You lay back and they start on your head, then face, then neck, and back of shoulders. They then work on your arms, hands, and top of shoulders alternating between massage and acupressure. Then they spend a good amount of time on your feet and calves (for any self conscious ladies out there, shave those legs!). And then! You are asked to lay on your tummy, they place a towel over your back, and they use their knees and legs to use different pressure on your back and legs. This did surprise me as was unexpected, but, once I relaxed into it, it was just the most effective way to work out all the tension in my back. I am definitely going to be a regular. Where do I begin? Uhh... go to Comfoot Spa in Monterey or PG? Uncomfortable position on an uncomfortable table -- lying down with my feet in a bucket of warm water. My back was very unhappy -- so I was given a pillow. The Water seemed pointless. The Therapist yanked my curls into straight hair. Reflexology does not use oil, but she slathered me up good and apparently didn't know any reflexology or trigger points. The endless chattering in(presumably) Mandarin between her and her colleagues was definitely not relaxing. She did not moderate pressure and nearly squashed my patella. Sadly, the feet and lower leg torture lasted 1/2 hour; then I was asked to go in a "room" where I undressed and lay face down. The sheet smelled faintly of cigarette smoke. The pressure, again, was uniform and painful when applied across the scapula. I was grateful she didn't go near my hair again.
