Very disappointing stay! They promise a year round resort but it's not true! After the ski season they shut down many of the amenities for repairs and there is nothing there until the summer! To top it off, despite the resort being abandoned, I had a mix up on my business travel (I had to book the hotel and my work booked the flight). I was confused by the dates and booked the wrong dates! I got a no show bill and I explained my company wouldn't reimburse me! They said there was nothing they could do because I kept out other guest from their empty resort! Sad! Pathetic! Totally not nice people! Wouldn't bother to help! Not even Airbnb has been so unreasonable! I would recommend all conference goers to stay away! There are better conference locations this time of year! They didn't even do that good of a job with the conference! The food was consistently late! People were milling around all the time! Sad! Terrible resort. read more

Amazing old lodge located in Ketchum, Idaho. We were welcomed with open arms, and since we were a group of motorcyclists, and a little grimy from a 10 day road trip, that was refreshing. We arrived a little early, and were told to park the bikes under the reception canopy. They suggested we go soak in the pool, while our rooms were being made ready. The staff took all of our gear and had it placed in our rooms. After a few hours of relaxing in the pool, and a few cocktails, we were driven to our condo. Not the cheapest place, but the attention to detail, and the service makes it worth every penny. read more

The Inn is a lovely little hotel that has recently been updated, although it still has it's classic look and feel. The rooms vary drastically... from large and room to teeny-tiny, but all are very clean and comfortable. The staff was always friendly and helpful. Our room was rather small, as was the bathroom, but it was very clean. We had a small refrigerator, which is always a plus. The furniture was quite aged, but the mattress was newer and comfortable. We had a view of the pond area. It was very quiet and peaceful. We are frequent travelers, and the room cost was a little pricey in comparison to higher-end hotels in destination cities, but if you want to be in Sun Valley instead of Ketchum, you really only have 2 choices. The pool area at the Inn is rather small and does not include a hot tub. However, since the Inn is a sister facility to the Sun Valley Lodge, guests can enjoy the pool area at The Lodge as well, and I suggest that you do. It is beautiful, and has a unique "spa" feel. The Inn/Lodge grounds are beautifully kept, and include fabulous restaurants, shops and activities. read more

This was my first time to Sun Valley, and I would be back in a heart beat to stay at this resort. I did come in the off season, and it was unseasonably cold for mid-September. The great thing about Sun Valley is there is so much to do at any time of the year. The resort has the typical lodge feel, which a lot of amenities. My room was large and spacious, with two rooms and a very large bathroom. I loved the bathroom, because the toilet was in a room with a door, it had two double sinks, an extra closet, a separate tub, and a large shower. There were also built in drawers in the bathroom that I loved. Room came with a fireplace that was on frequently during my stay. I slept well. Beds were comfortable and room was really quiet. I ate breakfast in the restaurant every morning and I loved it. They have a wonderful breakfast menu and could cater to my gluten free easily (items are marked on the menu). The bar was fun to hang out at at night, however, our group was the only under the age of 50, I'm pretty sure. Gym is awesome. Large and spacious with great choices in equipment. Pools onsite are excellent, including the hot tub. Its a great property to walk, and lots of cute shops and a great chocolate shop are also there. Outdoor skating rink is in the back, and it was fun to sip a cup of coffee and watch people skate. Great location to town and they have a shuttle. You can valet or self park. Excellent staff throughout the hotel. Everyone is very friendly. read more

We stayed in the Cottonwood condo, Esmeralda, unit 1457. It was a step back in to the 80s. Bedspread on master king was floral like my parents had in the 80s, even down to the lampshades. The kitchen has not been updated with pots and pans in a while, I think. Scratched and dirty. We couldn't tell the temp on the oven because the light didn't work very well. The tv in the living area was the size of my computer monitor. We had to sit at the table, up close to see. The carpet is in desperate need of cleaning. Brass lamps. Really?? Our master suite bath must have be updated. Nicest room in the condo. A lot of updates need to be done to this unit. We have stayed in much nicer condos for less money. We won't be back to this unit. read more

The rooms are beautiful and spacious. The staff are all friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The fitness center is also solid. There's easy transport to/from the airport and the slopes. Would stay here again in a heartbeat! read more

We stayed in the remodeled Sun Valley Inn and had a wonderful vacation. We like to go early Summer before the crowds descend upon the Village, when there is still a slight chill in the air before noon. Special shout-out to Ana in the Inn Gym who was so delightful and gracious to us whenever we were down there (everyday). We really enjoyed eating at the Sun Valley Clubhouse and the service and food there was impeccable. Kids really enjoyed the Adventure Camp during the week and got to participate in a myriad of activities. None of us wanted to leave, even after a 10 day stay. I have been coming to Sun Valley for over a decade. They have recently remodeled all of the lodge apartments they are beautiful. They have flat screen t.v. and granite in most. This is definately a resort destination the small town of katchemp has boutique shopping and reaturants. The ice show and buffet is amazing if you come to Sun Valley it is a must. read more

Five star ski hill, with a 1 star bartender in the main river run lodge. (Seriously, the crankiest, we just avoided her at all costs).

This is a very nice place. If you're here on C-mas Eve, take in the free ice show. Get there early and lay down a blanket on the bleacher of your choice before you take in the free cider, hot chocolate and cookies. They also have a bar set up outside. If your'e lucky, as we were, maybe Evan Lysacek will perform at the ice show. That was a real treat for us and a surprise for all of us there. After the ice show, there are fireworks and the torch parade down the mountain by the ski patrol. There are several other celebs that take in the ice show. I happened to bump right into Drew Barrymore. The celebs like it here because there are no papps. That's a good thing!! read more

Bald Mountain: sunny, no lift lines, steep fast runs, and cozy lodges! If only there had been powder and more tree runs, this place would be heaven. It's sort of a combination of Jackson Hole skiing (almost) and Beaver Creek service/amenities. We'd definitely come back for the mountain! Sun Valley Lodge: OLD. Old furniture. Old construction (very thin walls and inefficient heating system). Old (i.e. boring) food options. This hotel is very similar to Mtn Washington or the Balsams - great place to go for a night to experience history. Not a great place to vacation. The Lodge is very dated and not on the hill (the website positions the hotel as though it is near the hill, it's not. Easily a 10min bus ride to Bald Mtn and short drive to the 600' vert Dollar Mtn). I think the lodge will have a tough time staying in business the next 10-20yrs. A bit too stodgy given the lack of modern amenities. The proximity to the train track across the street (which is now a bike path), access to an opera house (now showing movies), bowling alley (closed now due to water damage), and sleigh rides don't hold the appeal they might have held in the 40's. read more

Gorgeous rooms, insanely kind and attentive doorman, sweet housekeepers that will leave a smiley face of chocolates on your coffee table, a stones throw from all the ski resorts, and the list of positives goes on. The resort was decorated for Christmas with trees drenched in lights and garland hanging from every mantle and doorway. SO CUTE. The room: we stayed on second floor. Our room opened to a small seating area with a gas fireplace and television. We spent more time in this area than we expected; great place to relax before going to bed. The bathroom was enormous and beautiful. It had a huge tub, a walk-in shower, & a massive vanity. Bedroom had two large beds and a television. Beds were very comfortable. Absolutely zero complaints about the room. The spa: had a 30 minute massage along with a 30 minute scrub-- it was a special at the spa that week and SO WORTH IT. Anita was my massage therapist and she worked out muscles in the shoulders that I didn't know existed. All of the staff at the spa were more than happy to answer any questions and were very accommodating. The village: it was absolutely, positively ADORABLE. Go here, order a hot chocolate, shop for souvenirs, and soak in in all the adorableness and grandiose of the mountain scenery. Would 100% stay here again in the future! Would highly recommend to anyone staying in the Sun Valley area. You won't be disappointed! read more

Wow, were we impressed by this place! We bought the Thanksgiving package, which turned out to be an amazing deal -- just shy of $415/person for 4 nights at a cozy but upscale inn + ski lift tickets + a Thanksgiving buffet. The inn was much fancier than I had expected, but by the end of our vacation, I really felt at home there. The resort and its slopes are both beautiful and well kept. I took a skiing lesson with Tom, who was incredibly qualified and helpful. The trails were voted #1 for grooming in the country, and you can definitely feel it when you're sliding down pure powder. The staff at the lodge and inn were wonderful as well. Everyone was unfailingly kind and helpful, especially Steve, who graciously helped me track down medicine for my friend when he got sick in the middle of the night. What a gorgeous place. I was there in July, beautiful weather. Mountains as if from a painting. Fresh air. The setting is simply perfect. The room, the service, the food, the music, the swans, the swimming pool - everything was absolutely great. Really and truly great. What a gem of a place. The staff and the ski patrols here are really wonderful. My son and I are not that good with skiing and we pretty much underestimated the difficulty of Sun Valley. Where they marked as green slopes are more like diamond slopes out near where we are from so we were too scared to ski down the mountain. Several ski patrols stopped by to ensure our safety and gave my son some basic skiing skill refresher, but that didn't quite work. One of them ended up calling for a snow mobile to take us to the lift so we could go back down the mountain. Later in the day, we decided to go to a shorter green slope, but it ended up being too difficult for us as well and we ended up riding the lift down instead of ski down. Oh well. One of the ski patrols saw us on our second attempt. He stopped and chatted briefly with us before the skiing down. Even though the day at Bald Mountain didn't quite work out the way we hoped, but the fact that we were treated well by the ski patrols and the staff at the ski rental counter made earned them a 5-star rating. read more

What a great resort! The service was superb all the way around, from check in, to doormen to the restaurants. I really like the room accommodations. Large and comfortable, and complete with robes and slippers. There was a nice flat screen TV. Even though it was the end of the ski season, all of the restaurants and shops were open. When I come to Sun Valley I can't think of another place I'd rather stay. Lots of history and charm, and comfortable. In the summer simply walk across the street and run or bike the trail. There are many single-track trails for hiking or mountain biking. In the winter Baldy is very close. Hit the slopes for skiing! read more

The property of the main lodge is very nice, some of the best in Idaho. Don't let the view hide what may be really going on: I am on day 3 of a 3 night stay and can't wait to get out of here! I have had my car lost by valet, ransacked by valet, limited AC in the rooms ensuring we are getting no sleep. This was our first time at Sun Valley. The skiing is fantastic but just know that the runs on Bald Mountain understate the skill level. It can be deceiving and the resort can getaway with this by describing the runs as "easier". For instance, a green skill level is actually light blue to solid blue (Intermediate) as compared to Mammoth, Deer Valley, Squaw Valley, or Alta. Bald Mountain is not a place for beginners. You would be better off at Dollar Mountain for very basic runs. The reason I didn't give a 5 star is because the food cost is outrageous and there are no prices listed for some items such as a bowl of soup or a cookie. To give you an idea, my husband ordered a French dip sandwich (super tiny) with 2 sides included. I ordered a 6 oz bowl of soup and a cookie. Total cost was $28.00. We decided to bring our lunches for the remaining days and sat outside enjoying the scenery. read more

Sun Valley in the summertime is beautiful & the Sun Valley resort is such an ideal place to stay! It has everything! Multiple pools, tennis courts, golf, shooting, horse back riding, hiking, multiple restaurants, spas, stores, and ice skating (yes, even in the summer!). The town of Ketchum is only a mile away. It's completely walk-able. Make an effort to go to Papa's restaurant/bar, about 1.5-2mi the opposite direction from town. It's a special little hideaway. We also used their baby sitting services & had a fabulous baby sitter! Her name was Olga & I can't say enough nice things about her!! My ONLY complaint is that the condos are not very nice....at least not the one we were 1st put in. They're on the opposite side of the resort, so it's a walk, which would have been fine if we didn't have a baby. The rooms were dingy & just old & gross. The bathtubs were totally stopped up & collected water every time we showered. We eventually moved to the apartments, which are more expensive, but worth the cost! They're newer, updated & clean. They're also closer to the lodge. All-in-all, we want to go back sometime again! It's a great place for a family vacation. read more

Staying in the lodge apartments and they are so roomy. We booked three rooms together so we all have access to the living area and kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped. Beautiful appliances and huge fridge. I have one of the side rooms and it comes with a beautiful spacious bathroom and decent sized closet. There is a flat screen TV and DVD player in each room so that's pretty convenient. There is a radio right next to to the bed it has a plug for Apple products. Within walking distance is some shops, food, and the main Lodge. read more

On Friday, August 16th, 2019, the taller dark haired male bartender treated us so badly I'll never go back. I asked if I could put our 2 drinks on my room. He accused us of lying about having a room. I am female and was with a female friend who lives in Sun Valley. This particular trip I had a $700 per night 2 room suite for 4 nights. To be accused like that was humiliating. If I was male he'd never have done that. He tried to apologize when he realized what he had done but finished his apology by adding that people at the bar lie to him all the time and steal drinks. I was embarrassed in front of my friend and I will never spend another dime there. Sad because I've stayed there 5 times before. Never again. Bad place to go if you're female. - I wrote to the resort as well and the never even replied. Bad place. read more

Checked in on April 4th for one night. What a spectacular room, beautiful decorated with a real warmth feeling to it. Wool carpet, wood trim exquisite furnishings basically a room over the top. Went to the spa facility and again it was a great experience. Great attentive service, knowledgeable staff. I really have no negative comments for this resort. It is spendy but you get what you pay for and for dollars spent it was a good value. read more

We stayed in the lodge. The decor is wood-cabin like, in the best of ways. We really loved the common room with a fireplace and piano - it is very picturesque. You can see the mountains from your bedroom window. Yet, the bed was surprisingly not comfortable. The shower and bathtub were above average. The house staff, as you'll find with most everyone at the resort, were super, super friendly and helpful. A major perk when staying here is that there's free bus service to Ketchum and the mountains (Baldy and Dollar), as well as a free shuttle to the local airport (and Twin Falls, I believe). While it was pretty pricey to stay here (and eat here), it was super easy going. It made for a relaxing vacation, even though it isn't as glamorous as it may appear on the surface. read more

This is a great resort for families. It's one of those places that feels really self-contained and safe--a bit like Disneyland. Beautifully landscaped, and really nice amenities (bike rental, shopping, ice-cream shop, chocolate shop, restaurants, 3 pools, ice rink, bungee trampoline, tons of tennis courts, etc...) on the property. It's also right across the street from some nice trails (not really for hiking, but okay for trail running, though there are a lot of rocks so have to watch your ankles) and about a mile walk from the heart of Ketchum. The rooms were clean and comfortable (the whole Lodge is getting a remodel starting tomorrow, I believe), and the service was nice. A few things that didn't thrill me. The Olympic pool is only a 25 meter pool, and seemed pretty dirty to me--the water was cloudy and there was a lot of stuff floating in it. Went once and had no desire to go back, despite the fact that its temperature was perfect. The ice show was cute, and there were a few good parts, but overall I found it overpriced. As for the rooms--the walls were thin, which made earplugs a necessity some nights. (There was a baby in the room next to us that wailed much of the night one night.) Also, it's really nice to have a room overlooking the ice rink, but that means it also overlooks the bar, so can be a little noisy at night... read more

If you're thinking of taking a ski lesson, I have to recommend Chris Jafay, aka Cowboy. I've been skiing off and on for 20+ years and have had lessons here and there throughout. Today I had a 2 hr lesson with Chris that was ten times better and more effective than any other. He is of course, smart, congenial, patent, etc., but what makes him so outstanding is his ability to analyze, communicate, and demonstrate what to do so in a style that is fresh, different and really works. Just stayed at the newly renovated Sun Valley Lodge, I had the opportunity to be there a little over a year ago (before the renovation) and about 2 weeks after they reopened. The renovation was badly needed. The property was dated. It was very nice, but really needed a face lift. Unfortunately, the face lift did not keep the quaint historical feeling of the property. The main entrance is very nice. They kept a lot of the old photos and distributed them throughout the property, but it now feels like "just another hotel room". The rooms are nice, but the history of the Lodge has been lost. It doesn't feel like the property that it was. My wife commented that "it feels like a Marriott". The place is really nice. The location and facilities are terrific, but I think they lost a lot with the design of their upgrade. It isn't the same. Will I recommend it? Yes. Could they have done a better job with the renovation? Absolutely yes. Will I return: Probably yes. read more

Would not recommend this ski resort for anyone who considers themselves to be anything less than an expert skier. While the resort loves to advertise 36% of the terrain on Bald Mountain as "beginner" this is certainly not the case. My fiancé and I have been skiing out west at ski resorts that advertise much less beginner runs and because of this had planned our yearly trip based on the fact that Sun Valley claims to have so many green and "beginner" runs. Unfortunately, on our first day of skiing we quickly learned that the greens far exceeded our skill and comfort levels. I typically stick to green runs; however, my fiancé has had no problems with blue runs at other ski resorts out west. After talking with staff at Sun Valley Resort, they expressed to us that "most of the greens are actually more likely a blue in difficulty." After our first day at Sun Valley, we realized we could not safely ski here. We had already purchased 4 day lift tickets based on previous ski trips and the number of green runs advertised by Sun Valley, and after explaining our situation to staff at Sun Valley and asking for a refund for the remaining three days of our lift tickets, we were ultimately told too bad and that the tickets were not refundable. Overall, we will not be returning to Sun Valley and would NOT recommend for anyone who is not a very confident and skillful skier and hope that others can learn from our very expensive mistake. read more

We came to the bar area to have a drink and some appetizers. We were a large group of 12, but there was no fuss in us pulling up a couple of extra chairs to fit in one area! The lounge area is really nice and our waitress (A little blonde girl) was incredibly nice and did well with our big group! Sun Valley Resort is a great place to vacation during the winter. However, it should be noted that we did not stay here, so I can't speak to the quality of the rooms. But we did attend a conference here, and all around it was a positive experience. Walking into the lodge made me feel like every other ski lodge I'd been to was modeling itself after this place. Unfortunate that it is a bus ride away from the mountain, but it's worth the drive. As you enter, there's a lovely stone fireplace with large windows that overlook the ice skating rink (see separate review). To the left, the Duchin Room, a quality bar that gets hoppin' in the evening and offers the perfect remedy to a rough day on the mountain: warm boozed-up drinks! The Hot Apple Pie (I think that is what it's called) was especially satisfying. On the other side of the lobby, Gretchen's. A restaurant that provided us with an excellent lunch (see separate review). Lining the halls are old photos of every famous person you could name from back in the day... Kennedys, Sinatra, Marilyn... Schwarzenegger even has a run named after him on the mountain. A fun place with lots of history. They have a decent salon & spa as well (see separate review). The village is great too, complete with those pictures where you can put your face in the hole to make it look like you're doing something ridiculous (we spent hours laughing at the resulting photos). Shops provided anything you could want with Sun Valley stamped on it, and there were several more restaurants and bars. As I said, we were there for a conference, which included cocktail hours and dinners, and the catering was all excellently done. The food was delicious and the staff was very professional. This was a great place to get away to in the winter. I'd love to come back and stay in the lodge someday, and hopefully bump them up that extra star. read more

Sun valley is beautiful. The people are wonderful, except for one staff member at the Olympic pool. When my siblings and I first walked in the man by the name of Peter came up to us and asked how we got it. He said that was not the way to go you need to go check in with a colleague. Seemed normal, we were mistaken. We were signing in with one of his colleagues and it was going smoothly. We told her age and everything was fine. Until Peter came over to us and said we were not allowed to be here unless we had an adult who is supervising us. Keep in mind I'm 16 and my siblings are 13 and I am CPR certified. He then told us we were in allowed to eat, jump into the pool, play music, and no using the Sauna. We were just looking for an enjoyable summer experience but instead Peter was rude and snappy tchildren. read more

My family has visited Sun Valley numerous times, but we just stayed at the lodge over the winter holidays for the first time. When we checked in , there was a problem with our reservation as it appeared to have been canceled, and the unit we reserved was occupied. The staff provided superb service and upgraded us to a unit that was available right away. They saved the day and made sure we had a great vacation. We'll keep coming back for sure. read more

As my Yelp history can attest: this is outside my normal review score. This particular focus is on The Village Estate restaurant. My sister and I just squeaked in in time for happy hour - literally 5 minutes before it was over. My first impression was how grumpy and irritated the bartender was at having two last customers at the end of her shift. She could not muster the slightest smile or even attempt to fake curtesy. Here is where I post a self-aggrandizing disclaimer: I was a waitress/cocktail server for 20 years - I get it. It's a hard job and sometimes it sucks, therefor I always ere on the side of: 'oh well, I'm happy to be out in a nice place and I'll just be as nice as possible to the weary and possibly frustrated server.' To be fair, the margarita she made was perfection. Cut to: it's after 5, not too many people in the place and we're seated for dinner. We order, we receive our food - so far so good right? But we requested a litany of items: condiments, napkins, a shot for our drink, a share plate etc. Those items were not delivered until my sister got up and tracked down the waitress to request them. She was told by said server, ' I'm busy with other things.' When the server did bring them, her terse vocal agitation was pronounced. When we needed Mayo - I got up to get it from another server: our waitress never came back except to drop the check. My sister did bring the poor service up to the floor manager and was actually backed up by the table next to us - corroborating everything my sister said. Our bill was taken care of by the manager. Phew. Nice job. THEN - as we were walking out, the waitress yelled across the restaurant, ' have a nice day' in dripping sarcasm as ANOTHER manager followed us out and proceeded to lecture my sister on treating their "best server disrespectfully." I swear to god, I have never in my life seen such a thing. And this was in front of her children and myself. I attempted to intervene and calmly confirm that the service was bad and that my sister was not disrespectful. To add insult to injury, he began to argue with me. Remember: he followed us out of the restaurant to berate, insult and accuse us of bad behavior. This is Sun Valley Resort! I am not someone who subscribes to the adage that the customer is always right: that's just not true, however - the customer should never be chased down and vilified. Let me recommend some really great places to eat in Ketchum: The Kneadery, Lefties, Knob Hill, and the Pioneer. So disgusted I can't even believe. read more
