It is a great opportunity for all dancers young and "young at heart", aspiring to earn a living a or to dance for the joy. The conservatory even has an adult class for those of us who want to try or never want to stop trying. I am over joyed to see a professional ballet conservatory open its heart and soul in St. Pete and excited to see more of Mr. Gallardo's art in motion!

My daughter started here a little over a year ago. This school at the time had only been open about 6-7 months and they were starting to grow. The Melton's (the owners) are great people and are more than a pleasure to deal with. They want nothing but success for the dancers here. They have what is considered to be two studios that are very large for a ballet studio that when opened up become a nice sized theater. There is some seating upstairs in a balcony type area where you can watch classes and rehearsals taking place. The instructors Servy and Alexe Gallardo are excellent and professional at what they do. My daughter began with Alexe and thrived with her. Alexe took my daughter in who knew nothing about ballet and she has taught her so much. My daughter now also has a class with Servy and she has loved working with him as well. He works his students very hard and pushes them to achieve more than they realize they can do but he does it in a way where there is a lot of encouragement and the students also enjoy what they are doing. My daughter always comes home a little sore and tired but is always wanting to do more and she always says how much she enjoys both Servy and Alexe. For any parents reading this. This is definitely a family type of environment with kids ranging in age from 5 years old to late teens and possibly early 20's. The classes are broken up so they are appropriate for age and skill level. The students are not competitive with each other and are more encouraging to each other which makes this a fun environment for all. The studio has now put on multiple shows at its location. Each show has only gotten better and definitely showcases the improvement each dancer has made over time. There have been many dancers (younger and older) that have have wowed the crowd during these shows with how skilled they are and how much they learn. They will be doing a full length Nutcracker here in December. I would encourage anyone to look this place up and check out the show. To any parents with a current ballet dancer or one wanting to become a dancer I would say run don't walk to this studio and enjoy the professional instruction and atmosphere this conservatory has to offer. There are not enough nice things I can say about what they have all done for my daughter and the other dancers at this location.

The classes are reasonably relaxed and very kid-friendly with the youngest, letting little ones get introduced to dance in a welcome way. More advanced classes branch off into specific styles and levels of skill, adding to the variety of classes available. These lessons all culminate in the big annual recital in June, where everyone shows off their skills. Additional classes lead to additional costumes and costs though, so just know that it can get expensive. Since I've only got a very little one, I haven't hit any restrictive cost paywalls. But she loves dancing and the classes are so well geared towards her age group that we'll surely be staying for a long time.

Having been a backstage mom for several years, I can tell you it is impossible to memorize hundreds of students, their parents, and their custody arrangements. They dismiss after the recital by song, with police escort. Only those having a matching wristband to their child is able to pick up the child. The children love being backstage, and it isn't as stressful on the children as it is the parents. The recital process is thoroughly explained when you choose whether or not to participate. It is not mandatory. As far as the fees go: in any extra-curricular activity, there are fees and extras needed aside from program fees. We love it there!

The inside of the studio is spacious, most often it was cleaned once a week which for the amount of traffic that goes through there-that is not enough. A lot of turnover for the instructors which says a lot about the management of the studio. Parking can be very tight and so full at times you can't get a spot.

The owner is really involved in the community and regularly works with the blind and visually impaired to offer them dance lessons, in addition to teaching children through the Palm Harbor Public Library. One of the kids was there and showed off her dance moves in front of everyone, it was really cool. One family drove down all the way from the east coast for the week just to have their daughter learn some ballroom dancing. Last year this studio was featured on "So You Think You Can Dance" so I think that is a pretty awesome thing to happen for Tampa Bay and for the owner. None of the girls in either of her classes I observed know their recital pieces. And April was too busy to attend their last classes. I've never seen her instruct the girls to rehearse without following her lead, but she seems indignant that they are unable to perform independently. And, in case it's not enough that she's unprofessional, she behaves very inappropriately. She has been extremely impatient with my child and has repeatedly insisted that my child needs mental health intervention, though I've obtained a professional opinion to the contrary. So April has resorted to belittling my child when the opportunity presents itself. I didn't waste the time reporting this to the owner, because she's April's aunt and, as such, is undoubtedly aware of April's limitations. This school holds itself out to be top notch, but in our experience, that designation is limited to the cost of attendance.

Stagelights is absolutely cheaper than most. But you get what you pay for! If it's worth it to you then go for it. I couldn't sleep at night if I didn't warn other moms of the experience. We wasted 3 years here, but once my two year old was mistreated the loyalty had to end. Do better for your own child & find a studio elsewhere!
