The lady at the front desk that took my credit card did NOT explain I was buying a membership nor did she tell me the credits/classes I bought expired within thirty days!! . I thought I was only buying four classes!!!! When I called to inquire I was told to send an email to cancel. I sent an email stating that I had not used any of the classes I purchased and just saw where my credit card was used for another eighty nine dollars and did not know this was a "membership"plan. Shame on me for not asking questions. Shame on them for not telling me this was a membership and that the credit/classes EXPIRE! FYI. I set out on a journey to learn Salsa exactly 2 years ago…read more My first lesson learned: If you want to learn salsa, you have to go to a salsa school. Don't go to a ballroom dancing studio to learn salsa. It's not real salsa, and they'll pressure you pretty hard to learn ballroom even though you just want to learn salsa. Ballroom studios will try to get hundreds of dollars from you for a couple of weeks of lessons. You should never pay more than $15 for a group class from a salsa school. With groupons, introductory classes are about $8 or less per class. Two months later and $600 burnt, I luckily find Salsa Caliente. Erika and her staff jump start the beginner class by teaching dancing technique. First we learn about "tension" which in my opinion is the most important lesson in Salsa. Tension is the foundation of lead and follow technique. With it, you can lead the follower through a salsa pattern without her knowing the pattern. It also help you conserve energy so you can dance longer. For example, instead of stepping out a turn, you can use the rubber band effect from each other's arms to sling shot you around super fast. Using tension, you can do this turn all day long. If you stepped the turn out, you'd be tired in about 5 turns. Next we learn the NY Salsa standard patterns and shines. I never knew how exceptional their teaching and expertise was until I went to my first Salsa Congress in Orlando last summer. A congress is a dance convention where all the serious and expert dancers gather. With my dance foundation from Salsa Caliente, I was able to learn the advanced partner and shine routines faster than most people in the Congress Workshops, because their routines were built by chaining up Salsa Caliente standard patterns and shines. In one of the workshops with about 40 intermediate/advanced dancers, the instructor asked us to do a "basic" (the standard steps for salsa). He immediately pointed to me and said I was the only one doing it correctly. Why? Because Erika teaches us that we should be moving back and forth with a smooth walking motion, and not a "step step STOP, step step STOP" motion. Is this a gauge of how great Salsa Caliente is? In my opinion it is. Am I a great dancer? No, but I'm probably as good as I can be. Am I good enough to show most girls in my arms a great time while dancing? HECK YEAAAAA !!!!!!! That's why I give Salsa Caliente 5 Stars :-)

Hands down the best class I've taken. Very good attention to detail and perfecting your style no…read morematter what level you are. I highly recommend this studio and its instructors.

You know when something comes into your life at the right moment? Like the stars just align and…read more-BAM- there it is? Well, that's sort of how I see Shevon. This man is top notch - he knows his shit, he has a great vision, and he has an even better personality. Seriously, I'm a whiner about just about everything (okay, some of it is self-deprecation and hilarious) and he deals with it with total grace. He will kick your ass in the best of ways. Things will hurt or be tender the next day or two. He'll even advise you in proper jump-rope technique lest you find yourself a little too crippled the next day - and in my case high heels are off the table for a bit. I think he's amused at this recent life development, but I could be wrong. He will also mess with your head. In addition to laughing my ass off, some things that have either come out of my mouth or run through my head - "Did I just do that? Wait, he wants me to do what? I'm sure as hell I can't do that... FACK! How did I just end up here? Oh dammit... Shit this is going to suck tomorrow." He's well-trained and speaks a few different dance languages; this is how I first found the Sultan. I remember catching a couple of his performances in the area and he had this insane energy that Tampa is missing. If you want to talk about someone being magnetic, this is a prime example. I showed up to his in-home studio a couple weeks ago with no real plan other than he was going to school me in something new. I was minus my iPod and he asked if I had any music. I pulled a lone CD out and he ran with it. "Have you done any partnered dance?"... Nope! On day one I found myself getting spun around and dipped (among other things), all while making really ridiculous noises because I'm a control freak and it... Freaked me out. But hey, new experiences are good for me, right? So, I found myself dabbling in "intro to ballroom" for the first time, revisiting some flamenco, and falling back into the belly dance thing (though I haven't left it since I first started back in '07). If you want to talk about getting into fusion done correctly though... This is it. No one else in the area does what Shev does. So, what else is there to say? This isn't a weekly drop-in class; you don't just show up. If you want a regular day/time slot I'm sure he would work with you; a friend and I have started assigning Sundays to dance/ass-kicking "church" with Father Shevon (yeah, it's a terrible joke, I know). I can't help but love this new ritual in my life because it's so refreshing to work with someone so professional who can also put you at ease. Tampa doesn't know what kind of gem it has because frankly, he's too good for it.

Don't be fooled by the basic décor; the magic is in people. From the first step in the door I was really comfortable, but meeting Shevon James was a completely uplifting experience! As the founder, he is a truly gifted and enthusiastic instructor whose charming and welcoming nature instantly puts everyone at ease. I am taking his Brancee Belly and Boot Camp sessions and the energy in the room is always electrifying. Mainly because his bright face, great music and demand for form bonds everyone in the room into one ball of energy, sweat and great endorphins! This is definitely not a Barbie Doll venue. Women of all shapes, sizes and ages are representing and having a blast! Speaking for the 'over fifty' set...I have never looked forward to any fitness class but really feel down when I have to miss a class. Never had such a great time getting in shape! The pool, hot tub, and sauna were all at perfect temperatures, and there was plenty of space in each one. There's also a large cycling room and mirror room for dancing. I also appreciated the little touches too, like having shampoo, conditioner, and body wash available in all the showers, and the water in the shower was nice and hot also. It's also great that they offer a "Kids Klub" even though it appears to only be open one day a week based on the posted sign. The fresh fruit smoothies are also a great option particularly for morning workouts and the lockers are spacious and give you the option of bringing your own lock. There were a couple of things that felt a bit off. Fox News was playing in the bathroom, which came across as unprofessional, and one of the benches in the sauna felt unsafe since the wood gave way. I also couldn't locate the weight machines, although I didn't check everywhere so they may have been on another floor. Overall, it was a great gym experience and I look forward to coming back!

If you have high or even basic standards avoid the S Dale Mabry LA Fitness location. Who cares if you have to drive a little out of the way! Cleanliness needs to be drastically improved and being a Signature club, it's beyond unacceptable. It is not an elevated experience in any way. I was visiting from Winter Park so I just picked the closest location to where I was staying. After I checked in, the front desk woman chased me down and said I had a standard membership and needed to come back to the desk to upgrade the a Signature membership or pay a $10 day pass to use this location. I paid the extra fee but the whole experience was very disappointing. Numerous machines are old and rusty and I attempted to use 3 different elliptical machines before I landed one that worked. The whole place lacked the basic standards like access to multiple wipe stations for to clean off your machines, no cleaning staff to be found and the women's shower area had a pool of muddy water that had accumulated. It lacked the basic etiquette of other gyms for instance, people use the sauna to dry their dirty wet towels! I should have taken pics of the shower area too but I hightailed it out of there! The WiFi is spotty and drops in the sauna and that was the final straw. Time to go! When I was leaving I let her know that for being a "Signature" location and to pay extra for access, the place was sub-par and she asked, "is that good or bad?" I said let me put this politely, it's bad. Very bad. Tomorrow I will try the one farther north or south in the Tampa area and hope for the best!
