My parents see another physician at the same medical group and recommended seeing him when I returned to K.C. Instead I was given an appointment with Dr. Mahon, and I've been extremely pleased with the care he has given me. Encompass is easy to get to, if you know where to find it! The office is near 87th and Quivira. Marshall Drive is the western frontage road of I-35. Just turn onto Marshall Drive from 87th Street and head north -- the building is on the left and marked "Encompass". Making an appointment with Dr. Mahon has always been easy, and Encompass seems to be very good about being prompt keeping appointment times. I've rarely had to wait more than a few minutes to see the doctor. Dr. Mahon is very pleasant and personable. It's a busy medical practice, but he always seems to have the time to listen to what's going on and discuss the problem thoroughly. I've never felt rushed when I see Dr. Mahon. When necessary he's referred me to specialists, but on the whole he seems to be able to handle most medical issues I've had. Conveniently, there are X-ray, sonogram, lab facilities, etc. at the medical office, so you can have procedures done there without having to go somewhere else to have blood drawn or images taken. Encompass also has some other medical offices around the metro, and has an after-hours urgent care clinic for evenings and weekends located near 103rd and Wornall, which can save a trip to the emergency room! Dr. Mahon can also be reached by e-mail, and responds promptly, when necessary, which I really appreciate. All in all, if you need a good, caring primary care physician, I can highly recommend him.

They are all very professional, yet very down to earth. You ALWAYS get treated nicely, with respect, and they listen to you becuse they are there to help you. They are not a small office with a few people, this place has grown and the doctors, like Dr. Curry, are great. That's why if anyone asks me if I know of some physician who really knows their stuff. I waited 6 weeks for this…read moreappointment, because only one doctor in the network could do this procedure, and drove 25 miles and 40 minutes to the office. When I arrived I was told that I was scheduled for a physical and I'd have to make an additional appointment for the procedure, when I made the appointment for the procedure specifically in the first place (and was told that it would be 6 weeks). I left because that's absolutely ridiculous. Who would wait 6 weeks for just a physical?!?! Meanwhile, I called my previous primary group (I only switched because of insurance changes) who were able to get me in NEXT WEEK for the procedure. I was not told over the phone that there would be two appointments, I was not told that I couldn't get the procedure done on this appointment or anything like that. When I was there in person I was treated like I was crazy.

That choice can cost patients thousands of dollars but they can't be bothered even though you have to pay out of pocket. That's not something that someone does who cares about their patients. This is a practice for someone who doesn't have health insurance and wants to risk huge medical bills. But hope that you don't ever need a diagnosis code - to transfer care, to get treatment at a hospital, to go on disability - because our country uses diagnosis codes as the standard of practice, so their lack of interest in spending the time is at the expense of patient well being. Why would anyone pay for a doctor who does not care about their long term well-being or having thousands of dollars out of pocket because the provider doesn't want to learn diagnostic codes?

They tell you on the phone when you schedule and also have you sign a legally binding contract to let you know they will nickel and dime you for every darn thing you unfortunately had scheduled for your nether-regions in the first place. But these people can call you 15 minutes before your appointment, you know, the one you're literally almost at, the one you found someone to watch your kids for to only have them call and say that the OB is tied up in a birth. I'm sorry, was the practice unaware an hour prior when I was sent check in paperwork, or how about 30 mins prior when the doctor was obviously still not there and ready!?! 15 friggen minutes. Be better if you expect your patients to do the same. My time is just as valuable as yours.
