URGENT CARE AREA - went yesterday for a food allergy on face and chest (itching hives and eye swollen shut). Got a steroid shot and was told a prescription was going to be called in that if I needed it I could pick up. I never got a call so went back this morning and was told I'd have to wait until they reached the provider who is only there on Monday to get clarification. read more

Great experience. First time visit. Check-in person was welcoming & efficient. PA/nurse named Amy did a thorough intake including review of my meds & detailed discussion about what brought me in to be seen. Dr. Stephanie Crane saw me & took the time needed to fully assess me. She told me what to expect from my lab test, when I'd hear back, that she was going to treat me symptomatically with meds to relieve my symptoms & pain. They all earned my highest praise. read more

Took my wife who was ill and we waited for an hour without any updates while everyone else who checked in proceeded directly back. When we said we were going someplace else, was met with attitude and shortness from the front desk staff. I am understanding of appointments, but this will be the last time using this clinic. read more

So, no one LIKES going to the doctor, lets be honest. Towards the end of last year, I was referred here (specifically to Erin Lovewell) by a coworker. She is thorough, kind, and takes all the time you need. She is a nurse practitioner, but seems to do it all - well, everything I have needed as well. There is now 3-4 of us from my work who go to her, we have all been so pleased. The staff has all been courteous and kind. If you have to go to the doctor, this is the place I recommend. read more

I went in as a brand new patient about a month ago. I was initially impressed with my doctor as she seemed to take a thorough medical history and I didn't feel like the appointment was rushed. However, she asked me to monitor a particular health metric at home over the coming weeks and then had me complete my labs in their office 2 weeks after my appointment (the earliest they could see me for lab work). Nearly 2 weeks later I had not received a follow up call about the metric she asked me to monitor at home or my labs. Instead, I received a bill and a 5 page packet with my lab results and one sentence note on the same day. The note indicated that my lab results were fine, but according to the baseline numbers in the provided packet, some of my numbers were not normal and were highlighted to indicate they were low or high. There was no explanation of what any of the items were so I didn't understand what I was looking at. I called the office and waited longer than 24 hours without a callback before calling again and leaving a second message. The outgoing message stated that calls would be returned within 24 hours and to not call more than once or it would take even longer. However, I called again as it had been longer than the 24 hour period. I finally got a call back from a nurse who said she was just filling in. She dismissed my concerns with the method my labs were shared with me and said that I should have known they were fine because they doctor didn't say there was cause for concern in her note. Her whole note just said "You're on track. Keep up the good work and be well." There was no explanation of what my results meant or why some of the results that were higher or lower than the baseline were ok. I didn't even know what some of the tests were and had to google them. I asked to speak to the doctor and she said I could email her and refused to leave her a message to call me back. I said I wasn't comfortable having that be the way my results are shared with me and she just responded with "Well, sorry." I then asked to be transferred to front desk to cancel my appointment and she transferred me without any further discussion or apology. The front desk staff member cancelled my appointment and when I said I would no longer be a patient because I couldn't reach my doctor she just said "Ok" and cancelled the appointment. Rude, unprofessional, and poor service. I still don't understand my lab results and don't know what to do with my health metrics I've been tracking at home at my doctor's request. I'll be looking for a new physician. read more

While I try NOT to visit this place very often, when I do, I want to have a good experience. I have been going to Sunflower Medical Group for the past 6 years. My doctor is very good and I really like his PA. She is excellent and very attentive. I appreciate that upon check-in, the staff is efficient and friendly and never give me the 'ew your sick' look. They have me verify all of my personal information is correct, confirm I am with the same insurance company, and ask for the right amount for my co-pay. One of the things I like most of all about this group is they are conscience of their time management. Few things make me more mad than being kept waiting in a doctor's office after my appointment time. I have not had one experience like this from this group and it will keep me coming back. Lastly, they have harnessed technology in their favor by providing FollowMyHealth.com and an app by the same name. Honestly, before coming here I hadn't had a primary care doctor since 2005. Dr. Erin O'Laughlin is absolutely wonderful. She listens to what you have to say and just wants to make sure you have the proper care. Another great thing about this office is the portal - you can send her emails and she's able to respond to your question without you having to come in. I'd recommend Dr. O'Laughlin to anyone looking for a PCP in the Mission area. read more

One this is one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a doctor's office. The office manager Pam offered no solutions and was extremely rude. My chart stated I "copied" a script provided to me by Dr. Andrea Murray. Pam stated the Pharmacy claimed it appeared to be copied, to which the Pharmacy stated this statement as false. The reason it was denied was because Dr. Murray's nurse claimed it was copied. Bottom line, I'm a person of integrity and values who has been on the same medication for years. I typically do not write reviews, however, I felt it necessary to advise others who could potentially deal with the same level of disrespect and insult. Do not utilize Sunflower Medical Group, there are a number of doctors offices in the Kansas City area who truly care about their patients. I have been a patient of Doctor Oxler's for almost 40 years. He has seen me through high school, college, getting married, two children and my entire career. He has taken great care of me and I have no complaints. He is attentive and decisive. He has a great reputation with other doctors, nurses and hospital staff. If I am ill and need to visit the doctor, I am able to get in that day. Making an appt., for a physical follow up visit, etc., very easy and I can usually get in within a couple days. Dr. Oxler always calls me himself with test results, and he makes his own hospital rounds which is becoming less and less common for primary care physicians. The office is a bit dated but I really don't care about classic pieces of art or beautiful aesthetics when I am not feeling well. I have recommended and will continue to recommend Dr. Oxler and Sunflower Medical. Hope this is helpful, be well. read more

Working here is as bad as being a patient. All they care about is numbers if you want to just be a number then this is your place. If you want to feel like your being taken care of by family there are alot of places around Johnson county who care and don't treat you like a number. The waiting room is dark. The music is bad. The telephone screeners aren't even trained to work in healthcare. You just get transferred to the doctors nurse. They are busy why don't the phone screening people just schedule an appointment if needed. And try and get a procedure ordered by a doctor here. The whole thing to get approved by insurance. Could take weeks. They are always short staffed. This isn't a medical group this is more like doctor owned facility that needs a better set up to make it run efficient. Stop pushing the number thing and build relationships with your patients. read more

I showed up to their urgent care with my daughter who had a temperature of 103. At the time I only had a copy of the insurance on my phone that I could email to them. They turned us down until the insurance Co would fax over the insurance card. I went straight to st. Lukes and had no issues. This is the worst medical group I have ever dealt with. At one time, my whole family went to Sunflower Medical Group. I was, until recently, the lone member who still gave them a chance. They have been nasty to us all. I went to go see Dr. Bruce most recently. During this 6 mos-year experience she has been really sweet to me when we're face to face but extremely rude over the internet or phone. There was a portal where patients and doctors could converse. Dr. Bruce told me I had reached my maximum question limit about a particular issue and had her office manager snub me, saying I had to make another appointment in order to discuss my matter further! Like paying a toll for her expertise...On another occasion, I found lumps in my breasts she told me their scheduler would call me back. They never did! Three weeks later, I am fighting Dr. Bruce for an order so I can make my own mammogram appointment! This is just my most recent experience. I have been accosted by a nurse while she's taking my blood and years ago a Nurse Practitioner misdiagnosed one of my most major health problems at a stage where much of the later damage could have been prevented! WHAT IS WITH THIS PLACE? I honestly think they are just too used to being rude to the elderly that when anyone who is under the age of 60 shows up, they don't know how to switch gears. read more
