Super small beach, but it's cute. It was not sunny the day we went, but the waves were intense and the dogs enjoyed running around. Careful coming down the stairs, it's a bit slippery with the sand and my dog halfway down decided to take a far jump down.

I'm always hesitant to give up the best local spots but I have an obligation to review places honestly and this beach is AWESOME! (don't tell your friends). A great dog beach surrounded by naturally beautiful sand stone cliffs creating a secluded cove. If your lucky enough to catch my wife and I here you might also see a cute piggy or two playing in the sand. This is one of our go-to beaches to being our animals. The neighboring community is full of great little spots that you can score a take out meal and some beers to complete the experience, picnic style! Toes in the sand popping kelp bulbs with my big toe is my Zen, this beach is one of the best in Santa Cruz! Grab your beast, a burrito, and some beers and come on down!

Nice beach not too far from the boardwalk but far enough to be it's own little spot . Somewhat hard to get to since it's in a residential area, and finding street parking can be tricky if you don't come early might find yourself walking a couple blocks just to get to the beach . The sand is very nice and soft . A lot of people bring canopies and tents typically big groups . But area is wide enough for the most part can find a spot for yourself but come early as it does get packed fast esp on weekends and holidays . There is a cliff diving/jumping spot a late of people jump off of . Waves are nicely sized and frequent, you can see lots of kids boogy boarding the shoreline . Overall, nice spot in Santa Cruz if want to get away from the boardwalk crowds .

***************************** 1402 *************************** Sunny Cove Beach is a tiny little beach that is much cleaner that the other side by the boardwalk or Twin States Beach. If you have dogs, this is a place for you. Your puppies can run wild here. Parking is limited, but this beach is warmer than the others, because of the way it lay out. A good spot for sunbathing. It's a bit rough to get down here, but you will get used to it. Watch out for the sea kelp.

Entrance coming in from the back & you're able to directly walk onto the beach.

Love this beach! Someone recommended Sunny Cove Beach to me & boy am I glad I paid a visit. Parking right near the beach is hit or miss. I parked at the local market area by Dollar Tree and avoided paying for parking (need parking permit here) or getting ticketed. This beach is dog friendly so you'll see dogs off leashes. When I went, dog owners were mindful of other beach goers and I didn't have any problems with the dogs. In fact, I'm a dog lover myself which made the whole experience at this beach that much better. There's multiple ways to get down to the beach; most go down the sides where it's a bit tricky going up and down sandy slopes, try to find the carved out steps to avoid slipping and sliding. I found an easier entrance coming from the back area and just walked onto the beach. Overall, I will definitely be paying this beach a visit every time I come to Santa Cruz!

When i went here i expected a bathroom so that i can change into my swimsuit or take a shower after i soak into the beach. But i guess there is none. Hopefully they build a public bathroom nearby... the cove is neat and the sand is very smooth and relaxing. Parking is not hard. The whole beach is pretty and we still had fun!

    Must dig!

Still a Great Dog Friendly Beach/ intimate cove;) Leash still required but wasn't enforced ;) Parking - on ***17th Ave*** during the week hasn't been an issue so far. We saw the seals! ;D (8/4/16)

Great beach to bring the doggies. Small enough where you can always see them. Big enough to have fun and not feel too crowded in.

Love this place but it does have some drawbacks ... it is a cove and I think some people want more space to walk up and down a beach..

I've spent all day at it many times, it's a great place to get away for the day. There is a long stretch of parking along the side of the road and you walk down to the beach. The small path down to the beach is adventurous, tough for the uncoordinated but short. Still, only bring what you can carry because it will be hard to bring stuff up and down. The main beach is big, tons of space for activities but can get a bit crowded quickly. My favorite spot to go to is off to the left. You have to go under the arch and to another beach much longer than the first one. You will want to come back over before the tide is too high or you will have to calculate running back as the tide reseeds.

The only reason this is 4 stars is because of insane parking and lack of accessibility. You literally have to scale a cliff to get to and from the beach, which is a little difficult if you're hauling things or very difficult if you're physically disabled. Once you're on the beach though, it's gorgeous. Plenty of room to spread out, and the waves are super big. The Saturday we went (7/17) it was clear and sunny- perfect weather! Would recommend this beach if you are able-bodied and want to get away from the crowds at Santa Cruz and Capitola.

OMFG...I finally made it to the swing at the Davenport Beach?! :D…read more I did not read any reviews about this spot before coming here. I just bookmarked for a couple of years, and I finally visited it. My boyfriend and I along with his doggie were having a day out in Santa Cruz. I told him that we should visit this place so that we can swing on the beach. He was down for it, but once we found the way to get down to it--he said, "No way, I'm doing that." I *did* not let that stop me from going down there to experience the swing though. My boyfriend and his doggie stayed at the top of the cliff and watched me climbed down to the beach. Yes, it was pretty treacherous. Thank goodness there was a rope with knots to hold onto. Otherwise, I don't think I would be able to do it successfully without that lifesaver rope. Thank you so much to whoever secured that rope there! Also, I do want to point out I did this in a dress and flipflops?! Crazy right.. Then again.. I'm crazy, I do admit it. ;) There were a four gals and guys down there chilling. I asked them if there was another way to get in and out of here, but they confirm that that was the only way in and out. I got to swing on the swing and took some videos. The swing looked cool from the photos that I seen, but it doesn't swing well straight. It does swing sideways. Lol... It took me about 7 minutes to go down and about 4 minutes to climb back up. I know this because my boyfriend recorded me. Lol... I'm very grateful that I was determined to do this despite the company that I had didn't want to do it. Years ago I let someone that I was with who didn't want to do it influence me to also not do it when we visitied Alamere Falls so I won't let that happen anymore. If there is something I want to do, it's okay to do it alone when other people don't want to do it. That's on self-love, baby! There is two parking areas. We initially parked in the one right across the post office, but then we follow this group to the other one right next to it because it was closer. We walked across the railroad tracks and found the opening to the climb to the beach. I was sore for a few days afterwards in my legs from climbing the side of the cliff, but oh gosh... It was so worth it!
