Really nice beach but I wish they allowed Bonfires . Most Davenport beaches do not , overall great hangout location.

OMFG...I finally made it to the swing at the Davenport Beach?! :D I did not read any reviews about this spot before coming here. I just bookmarked for a couple of years, and I finally visited it. My boyfriend and I along with his doggie were having a day out in Santa Cruz. I told him that we should visit this place so that we can swing on the beach. He was down for it, but once we found the way to get down to it--he said, "No way, I'm doing that." I *did* not let that stop me from going down there to experience the swing though. My boyfriend and his doggie stayed at the top of the cliff and watched me climbed down to the beach. Yes, it was pretty treacherous. Thank goodness there was a rope with knots to hold onto. Otherwise, I don't think I would be able to do it successfully without that lifesaver rope. Thank you so much to whoever secured that rope there! Also, I do want to point out I did this in a dress and flipflops?! Crazy right.. Then again.. I'm crazy, I do admit it. ;) There were a four gals and guys down there chilling. I asked them if there was another way to get in and out of here, but they confirm that that was the only way in and out. I got to swing on the swing and took some videos. The swing looked cool from the photos that I seen, but it doesn't swing well straight. It does swing sideways. Lol... It took me about 7 minutes to go down and about 4 minutes to climb back up. I know this because my boyfriend recorded me. Lol... I'm very grateful that I was determined to do this despite the company that I had didn't want to do it. Years ago I let someone that I was with who didn't want to do it influence me to also not do it when we visitied Alamere Falls so I won't let that happen anymore. If there is something I want to do, it's okay to do it alone when other people don't want to do it. That's on self-love, baby! There is two parking areas. We initially parked in the one right across the post office, but then we follow this group to the other one right next to it because it was closer. We walked across the railroad tracks and found the opening to the climb to the beach. I was sore for a few days afterwards in my legs from climbing the side of the cliff, but oh gosh... This is a beautiful, dog-friendly beach! The location is across from the Davenport Post Office, with a dirt parking area. The actual beach is pretty small, yet so picturesque! It features a rock pinnacle, an area of tidepools, and a cool cave! So, it is not a place for a long walk along the shore, but it is definitely worth seeing. read more

There's no sign out front and you'll probably lose gps signal on the way over, but if you're driving from Santa Cruz, after you see and pass Davenport Roadhouse and several other businesses to your right, you'll see two consecutive parking lots on your left (that's where Davenport Beach is). The climb down wasn't that bad, I had imagined much worse, but there was a lot to grab onto with my hands and feet, making it manageable and less intimidating. Though, I'd still advise visitors to be careful of loose rocks, and don't wear sandals. That rope is a lifesaver, not necessary, but I felt comfortable just knowing it was there in case I slipped or needed help with the climb that left me with chalky hands and rock dust and dirt all over my clothing. Came before 5pm this past Saturday in late June, and the weather was perfect, a bit foggy but enough sun shining through to create a nice warmth to go along with the cool breeze. Soaked up the sun and the beauty of nature all around. Explored the area and found some waterfalls flowing from caves and rock formations on the cliff walls, while walking along the sandy shore in the direction of Shark Fin Cove. The tide was low enough so that the famous swing hanging from the sunken pier was accessible... a popular spot for photos. Brought my beach mat for napping, and simply relaxed in this serene atmosphere, with just a handful of visitors while I was there, along with a couple dogs. I actually like that the scary climb can deter most families with young kids from visiting, which allows for a more peaceful and secluded feel at this beach, a big part of the appeal of this place for me. Decided to leave as the tide started rising, and the climb back up required a little more energy and was slightly more challenging. But obviously I made it! :D read more

One of my fave pit stops along PCH! Perfect for anyone feeling adventurous and looking to unwind. To get to the beach, we scaled down the cliff with a rope. Lucky for us, the tide was low, so we ran over to the swing hanging from the relics of the Davenport pier - a super fun experience and photo op :) This was a serene place with zero crowds and rough, spectacular waves. We were absolutely shocked no one was down at the beach/swing. Until we saw how you get down there... The hike down isn't for the average joe. It's definitely a bit steep and difficult in Birkenstocks. (Speaking from experience.) But it's totally worth it! It's such a fun stop along the PCH. A long overdue review on my part, but Davenport Beach was a fun and spontaneous experience for me. I visited specifically just to hangout on the beach and see the awesome swing. Parking was easy to find, but there's an interesting hike down you need to take in order to get to the beach on a cliff basically. There's a rope to hold though so it wasn't too intense. The swing itself is very fun and a great photo op. There's a lot more explore and see on the beach as well. As long as you know what you are getting yourself into this is a fun beach to visit! read more

2 wks ago on 7/16/21, we stopped by to look down from the cliff and saw no swing, but today on 7/31/21 a swing was on. I think there are public officials who take down the swing to discourage people from coming here because the trail down is treacherous. But it is futile because people continues ro put it up. Example, there is a bubble gum alley in SLO that the city would clear out but then it would be repopulated again and again, I admit that it's a pretty cool feeling to be swinging out to the ocean and of course jumping off at the height into low tide is a must. I thought going down would be harder than coming up but actually both directions are quite difficult. There is a porta potty at the parking area and I am thankful for it to keep the area clean. Next time I come, I will bring a bag to collect garbage on the beach. read more

Yo, this place is pretty legitty for those... things that rhymes with "itties" :D Not my favourite beach in the world, but it's pretty chill. This area can tend to be a little windy, but it can also tend to not be that, so it's gonna be a bit of a gamble when you're coming here, especially if you're not from around here and have to drive way outta your way to get here! I have known people to come all the way down from Sacratomato just to come down to the beach out here in our beautiful little haven. Not saying I wouldn't do it myself, but you'd also never find me living in Sacto, so I guess I don't have much of an argument here. Anyway, this story has nothing to do with this beach, because we didn't go here that time, because like I said, this is not my favourite beach, and I'm not gonna tell you which one it is either, because then you're gonna start going there all the time and gonna crowd up my secret beach! First, it appears that Yelpers are confusing Davenport Beach with Davenport Pier Beach. Confusing things further is that Davenport Beach is also known as San Vicente Beach. Davenport Beach is where you can access the "Davenport Crack". Based on the graffiti at Davenport Pier Beach, that's where you might access actual crack. Jokes aside, Davenport Pier Beach, the northern side aka Davenport Bluffs, has an amazing photo op: a swing made from the foundation arches of a pier no longer there, known to be high on photographer bucket lists to frame winter sunsets. At 110 feet, the bluffs are so steep that I get dizzy just six feet from the edge, but there is a steep route on unstable, perpetually eroding rock to the bottom making it one of nine of "these beaches in California are the hardest to get to (but worth it)" [Google it] read more

I went to Davenport Pier I guess it's the same as Davenport Beach Sat 7/18/20. It's after Swanton Berry Farm coming from HMB. Park along Hwy 1 when u see train track sign. Saw a small dirt parking lot on the right too. We followed the people cuz we hadn't been there before. If it's busy gotta wait for people heading up to get to the top before going down because you have to walk along a sketchy cliff and only one way up & down. Once down you can walk on the beach, take pics of the pier, someone took the famous swing down, hope it's only temporary due to Covid19. There's a waterfall looks like from a cave. Not sure what's in the cave cuz I wasn't going to climb up that. We spent maybe 30min total. Might go back next year see if swing is back, maybe in June and a lot early in the day. We went in afternoon 3:10pm and too many people. Lots of trash, no trash cans so please pack your stuff out! No restrooms either. read more

This review for Davenport Beach is after Covid happens. Pros: - Absolutely breathtaking views - Sand is white, not many trash when we visited this beach - Parking is free, lots of parking spots when you arrive early. Like before 12pm. When we checked out this place on our way home, the parking was almost impossible to get, and the beach got really crowded by that time. (Around 4pm-ish) Cons: - The hike to go down, man, if you have heigh phobia like me, just pack your bags, and leave. The view is breathtaking from your spot, that's a given. But have you tried looking down? My knees even shaking right now remembering the feeling that my iphone11 pro max might fell down. Don't go down there!! If you think you can do it, wear a proper shoes!! Don't just wear flipflops and think that you're not gonna lose your balance! The hiking to get down there can be steep and dangerous! Read all the reviews, there was one review stating that there was a man who died from hiking down to get to the beach. So be extra careful! If you bring kids, find another beach! Doesn't look like much when you walk past the train tracks but within 50 feet, you'll reach a 4 story drop. The sandy part of the beach requires a steep hike with no safety net. It's very secluded and unless you're athletic or risk taking, it'll be difficult to access. Someone throughout time was considerate enough to post a rope for assistance but I would not hang my entire body weight on it. The scenery is beautiful and natural except for some ruins where it looks like a pier. There's a swing but will likely get you wet due to waves crashing. read more

A beautiful beach nestled in a less crowded part of town. Lots of sand and space to layout or walk, it is an ideal beach to take pictures. I didn't see any surfers but I did notice many people walking nearby. There is a pier that used to be and a swing that people use as a prop to take pictures. I'll visit again when in the area. Shark Fin Cove at Davenport Beach - one of my favorite beaches ever. Getting to the beach: Park along the sand, follow the railroad tracks down. The short climb down to the beach can be done in regular shoes, but be prepared to maybe get your hands a little dirty. Vibes: I went on a January weekday and there were less than 10 people there (just how I like it). Plenty of flat rocky ledges to sit on if you're looking to sit with a good book and good view. The waves looked beautiful and they can come up pretty high. There's also these smaller cove-like places you can sit inside to look at the beach without getting wet if it's raining. Awesome place to watch the sunset, and plenty of dogs to pet. read more

I always love coming here! It's beautiful, not crowded and just a short drive from home. The people who come here are friendly and responsible in keeping the beach clean... although I'm not sure about night time because this last visit, we saw some charred wood leftover from a campfire. I just hope people will become more conscious not to leave their trash at the beach so everyone gets to enjoy the place and relax. At this time last year, my friends and I witnessed a powerful gift from nature here. Absolutely stunning! There's a well-marked trail down to the beach from the bluffs. As always, mind the signs and stay on the paths to be safe. Cliffs are unstable. That didn't stop one of us from sitting at the edge of one for a photo op, of course, but I tend to err on the side of worrywart caution. The train tracks are fun to walk along, and there are many rock formations and caverns to explore, as well! We were the only ones on the beach! I believe the location we stumbled upon was Sharkfin cove. The way down is a little rough, so be careful. You have to walk past the railroad tracks to get there. Beautiful clean beach. Come early if you want to look for Seaglass. You may also want to bring something to dig with as you search for glass gems. There are several beaches along this area with each one called something different. Ample parking. Dog friendly ~ as long as they're on a leash. There are actually two small "beaches" located here next to each other but separate by a nature's wall. One being the Shark Fin Cove & the other more hidden and unnamed. We didn't go down to the unnamed one, but took a look and there were less people and I'm 90% we saw a nude guy walking around. We parked by the freeway closer to the unnamed beach, and followed the old/abandon railroad tracks to Shark Fin cove (0.5miles). Shark Fin Cove was a mini hike down the short path. The view from the top was beautiful, but what we discovered at the bottom was even more breathtaking. It magical how nature can carve such structures. The "shark fin," the sediment-ed walls, the caves and the mini natural bridge. It's a great place to sun tan and nap since it's a cove, it's not as nearly windy as a regular beach. Sand is not the softest, but I've experienced coarser sand. My BF also noticed that there were very mini tide pools on the rocks with small organisms. Overall, very nice beach to stop by if you're traveling on Hwy 1! It's worth the view! read more

This beach is an ice little hidden gem less than 15-10miles North of Santa Cruz. My friend and I drove up to this place on a complete whim, unguided, without anyone telling us it existed. We saw a couple of cars pulled over on the side of the road, and decide to see what was going on! It was a very spread out beach with dogs and people spread out evenly. The sand here was remarkably soft! That is a huge thing that stood out to me. We walked back south along the water to where we got to some rocks where there were several shells. Our pooch was running up and down the water, meeting some dogs, and people! It was great! Overall; Easy parking, soft sand, and dog friendly! Check it out! read more

Sea stacks, rectangular patterns on the cliffs, fantastic odd rock shapes and strange tide pools, tiny sea caves in the cliffs, cool canals of water, primordial rock formations with dripping water, sweeping panoramic views, nice cozy little cove, relative isolation, not many people, easy (and free) parking, dog-friendly, beautiful....what's not to like? I brought my tripod and camera here and had an absolute blast taking photos. Great great place. read more

I love this secret beach! I feel like this beach is so versatile because it can be a place to get your cardio on or relaxation on. When the tide is high, it's a beautiful outlook place to walk or run. Lots of grass & flowers & the breeze is just right! When the tide is low, it's a fun adventure into the caves & climb onto the rocks & side of the cliffs! It's a great beach to relax & catch some sun. Yes! There are caves! I love the caves & how it looks! Mother Nature is just so beautiful. I like sitting in the sand & watch the waves crash against the rocks as it comes to the shore. Not many people know this beach which makes it less crowded & more personal space to enjoy the calming waves. Yes, the boardwalk is nearby, but I prefer the solitude here. read more

Super nice, it's so sketchy to get down but once you start, you're committed. It's actually not that bad, the first steps seem really hard but, Yea, once you start going, it gets easier. Very picturesque with the unfinished pier, definitely want to come back here to fish. It's quite secluded, not too many people dare to go down, or want to work for it. Usually couples here. Done a ton of photoshoots here. If you don't wanna go down, there is a nice trail along the path and you can get some amazing shots! With forest too! And, your classic rail road tracks. read more

Amazing beach, secluded, easily accessible (park in the lot across from Whale City Bakery, cross the train tracks, then look for paths down the bluffs), and off leash dog friendly. The only negative is that the day we last visited, three or four groups decided to trash this beautiful natural scene. Piles of bottles, broken chairs, food wrappers...it's a shame when there are plenty of garbage cans up in the parking lot. read more
