Sunny Hills is an amazing preschool. I feel so lucky to have both my children enrolled and been able to watch them both grow and thrive with the help of the Sunny Hills teachers. As an elementary educator I was very invested in my search for a great preschool. Prior to sunny hills we tried a play school where more of the focus was social. Although this was helpful, I found that some organized learning, group projects, and early learning skills were missing. Then along came sunny hills. Although nestled below a church, they teach kindness, not religious material. I have two kids who both have started at sunny hills. Both were shy to start and nervous about school. The teachers aided in them feeling safe and welcome and now both kids love going to school every morning. I will be honest. I am a total hover mom and Sunny Hills has impressed me every step along the way. They even helped me let go a little knowing my kids were always in good hands. Dropping your kids off somewhere you know they are cared for and safe is the best feeling. The cost of the preschool is so reasonable, especially for what you get. The school also does things like field trips, winter concerts, art shows and other activities to include the parents in. I cannot say enough nice things about the education and care that all three classes at sunny hills have given to my children and our family. read more

We love Sunny Hills and are thrilled we found this school for our daughter last year. Our daughter entered as a three year old in the Alder classroom and teacher Julie was such a great fit for our child. Activities are fun and build lots of new skills while being developmentally appropriate. The teacher:child ratio allows for individual attention. The school has a wonderful atmosphere and there is a lot of outdoor time no matter the weather. Teacher Millie runs the school and is the lead teacher for the preK class for the kids who will be entering kindergarten the following year. We love teacher Millie! She is kind, caring, dynamic, and so invested in each and every child. We had the unique experience of being able to interact with Millie and her preK class over Zoom sessions post Covid 19 closure of schools. Millie did three Zoom meetings a week and handled the experience with enthusiasm and AMAZING patience. It was a great way to stay connected with the school; to watch Millie keep the kids engaged over Zoom for at least 45 minutes each session was impressive! She often would stay on Zoom much longer with the kids who still wanted to interact with each other or have another story etc. Millie used the Oregon Zoo's animal spotlight videos as the focus of the lessons and the art project every meeting. All of the preK children seem so well prepared for their transition to kindergarten. Our daughter was in the younger class for the 19/20 schools year and will be going into Millie's class this fall and I'm so excited to watch our child grow with the class. Another bonus is that Sunny Hills has a summer camp program for 3-8 years old, so kids about to enter the school in the fall as well as kids who just graduated, plus their siblings, get to have more time at Sunny Hills! This is what we did with our daughter last summer leading up to her first regular school year in Julie's class. The school is located in their own area on the rear side of a church. The school also borders a smaller THPRD playground, field, and open area which are perfect for outdoor time. The location is a big plus! We have been so lucky to send my son here for the past year in North Bethany location. The teachers were amazing as they helped my son to make himself home from Day 1. He loved his classmates and all the fun times he had with them. They were all super friendly as well :) I cannot be more than grateful for all the staff members who made my son feel comfortable, especially when English is not his first language. read more

We found Sunny Hills a few years ago when we were looking for a preschool for our son. I was working part-time and needed a program that was longer than two hours (like so many of the other programs in town), and an affordable price. We fell in love with all of the activities he did in class, as well as the community events like the Holiday performance and Annual Art Show that allowed families to come together and connect with each other. Our son is now in first grade and I continue to be amazed by his experience at Sunny Hills. While he was home with me last year doing Kindergarten via virtual learning, I was surprised to learn how much he already knew. I asked, "How do you already know this?! We haven't done any of this at home." His answer? "I learned it at Sunny Hills!" We have a daughter who is three years old and she just started at Sunny Hills this year. I am no longer working but we knew how valuable Sunny Hills was to our son and didn't want to miss out on the opportunity for our daughter. She comes home each day and says, "I really love Sunny Hills!" We can't wait to hear about all she will do and learn, just like her big brother. read more

Both of my children went to Sunny Hills preschool while they were 2, 3, and 4 years old. It was such a wonderful experience! I'll be sending my son back again for his final year in preschool. All of the teachers are wonderful and my children thrive in this small class environment. Millie, the owner and operator, truly has a heart of gold. She is earnestly invested in each child's development and well-being and she only hires like-minded staff. I have sent them this year to summer camp during the Covid pandemic of 2020. The staff has adhered to the best practices and procedures of cleanliness possible. I believe that children need to be in Social environments to learn and develop, therefore I will be sending my son back for this fall's enrollment. My son is just starting his third year at Sunny Hills. We live right across from the Multnomah village location where they have been located until this year. Initially it was a convenience choice - who could beat walking your kid across the street to school? I have a stay at home husband and so our son was only in school 2 days a week just to gain some exposure to playing and leaning and exploring outside of our immediate supervision :) His experience in the 2/3 class was way above any expectations we had. His teachers were kind, thoughtful, attentive and he came home happy to share the latest song, story or experience for the day. His ability to verbalize and express his creative thoughts grew by leaps and bounds under their careful nurturing. Last year in the 3/4 class (now three days a week), teacher Millie who is also the Director really raised the expectations. They spent each day exploring art, science, building, crafts, shapes, colors, dress up, learning letters in a creative station-based set up. He was able to choose from learning experiences while developing good social skills such as sharing. He has made great friends and his learning is often disguised as play so he is excited to engage in it. This year in the Pre-K class at the new location on 80th near Taylor's Ferry, he is just growing at an amazing rate. Teacher Mary and Teacher Chrissy are basically teaching Kindergarten level curricula in a warm, supportive and structured environment. He is now able to tell me what each letter says, starting to put together sounds into words and will likely be reading before the end of the year! He is learning how to hold a pencil, write his name more correctly, exploring scientific ideas, learning responsibility by having daily "chores" (feeding the fish, line leader, etc) and building great friendships. The parents, teachers, and kids in this school are really above any other school I have seen or heard of in the area and it is affordable. They have expanded after hours and their new building has a whole area dedicated to a library and another for an art studio! We are now more than happy to drive him 20 minutes round trip to keep him in this school and highly recommend it to any and all. You will be hard pressed to find another place where your child will feel more loved (outside of your own home) while learning so much. read more

I have two children currently at Sunny Hills Preschool, as well as a third who will enter their preschool in a couple years. My oldest is in the pre-K classroom and often comes home excitedly talking about "what they did at school today." (Yesterday, they learned to make paper.) She LOVES art and our art wall is always overflowing with her class creations in different media. My middle child is in the youngest 2/3's classroom, and is amply engaged and stimulated by the various prepared areas of the room (reading nook, dress-up corner, train table) as well as by the art projects. It is so cute to see his whole class sitting at their table for snack, learning and practicing their manners. The teachers are wonderful. They warmly greet the kids each day and really get to know each child. This is our third preschool in three years, so I have a lot of basis for comparison! I am impressed at how after just a few weeks into the school year, teachers for both of my kids could understand some of the subtle nuances in their personalities as well as their motivators. Also, one of the pre-K teachers used to teach Kindergarten in PPS, so she knows how to prepare the kids and make them excited for Kindergarten. She is a great influence in taking some of the mystery and apprehension out of that eventual transition. The school provides a great emphasis on art and exploration, balanced with sequence and structure, all at age-appropriate levels. Learning is FUN at Sunny Hills, and it makes me happy that my kids associate such a positive experience with "going to school." Since my wife went back to work we have struggled with finding good childcare. This is the first place my 3 year old daughter is excited to go to. Great facility, awesome teachers and a loving accepting atmosphere. In addition to all the fun, she has learned to write her name, comes home with new songs all the time, and tells us great stories about her friends and adventures. I currently have 2 children at Sunny Hills Preschool. I can not say enough good things about the school. The teachers are all very welcoming and gentle with the children, allowing each child to individually thrive. When I drop the kids off at school, I leave knowing that they are genuinely cared for and happy. My son has attended Sunny Hills Preschool for the past 2.5 years and is now in the Pre-K class. Not only has he developed socially and emotionally over the years, he is now learning to read and write. I feel that this year of pre-K will make a huge difference in his adjustment to kindergarten. My daughter goes 2 days/week in the 2/3's class. Initially, I was unsure about enrolling her because she was barely 2.5 years and ideally I wanted to wait until she was 3 years old. I couldn't be happier with our decision, however, as she is thriving in the class and absolutely loves going to school. Her only wish is that she could go everyday! If you are looking into an amazing preschool in the fall, stop looking! This is a very clean, caring, small independent business. I hated the idea of sending my child somewhere for preschool somewhere that wasn't local. Millie the owner and pre-K lead teacher and Jordan her assistant teacher are hands on, creative and just all around amazing. From the crazy art projects to the very fun songs your child comes home with they are doing it all. They have three classrooms and her entire staff are caring and so kind. Throughout the shut down they continued to work so hard to make sure our children weren't left behind. They held zoom meetings and countless stories and projects were recorded by all the teachers and posted for the kids to see. They also made the older siblings feel included which was amazing! My 3yo daughter attends the 3 & 4 year old class at Sunny Hills. She absolutely loves the teachers and the kids. She comes home on a daily basis having learned a new song or a new word or new concepts. The art projects are creative and fun. In addition, there are extra curricular options like soccer and art classes beyond the classroom. The minimal parental involvement required is a plus for me, though I always feel welcome to be a part of whatever is going on. Sunny Hills is our first experience with preschool, and I'm so thankful we found it! This was the last facility we toured as we looked for a school for our four-year-old, and I have been very pleased with our decision to have her attend. We were nervous about starting our daughter in preschool, but Sunny Hills turned out to be perfect for us. She's been going three days a week (half days), and we love it. The classrooms are small and the teachers are phenomenal. The kids did amazingly creative art projects, they played outside, they played inside when it rained, they worked in the garden, they took field trips. Behavioral problems were competently managed, and the teachers even helped us potty-train. My daughter loves her teachers and her fellow-classmates and would rather be at preschool than almost anywhere in the world. I am so happy we found this place! read more
