The owners looked after the bags we did not need, and locked them securely away until we returned. We stayed in room #2, which was on the first floor (second floor for our American friends!) and had both a double bed and a single bed, as well as a wash basin in the room, a kettle and a TV. This room also has an en-suite bathroom, with bathtub/shower. Julia and Pat Hastings, the owners, are wonderful people, and as you will see if you search for this guest house on the web, everyone agrees that the Hastings can't do enough for you. The breakfasts are awesome: Cereal, fruit, sausages, beans, tomatoes, eggs, mushrooms, hash-browns, toast, tea, coffee, orange juice... the list goes on! As long as you're not leaving at 2am, Julia will make sure breakfast is ready for you on YOUR schedule! Where else would you get that kind of service? Be sure to talk to Pat about his experiences working on the Channel Tunnel! He has some great stories. Would we stay there again? Definitely! Julia and Pat are looking to retire, and to be frank, they deserve the rest, because they work harder to make you feel at home, than your mom does. The location is really convenient for many of the attractions in Kent and is located in the heart of the countryside. The property is furnished to a high standard and is very comfortable. There is a dishwasher, microwave, fridge, oven and tv. There is also a separate games room, which also houses a washing machine and dryer. Contributions for the washing and drying facilities are expected to be made in an honesty box. Internet facilities are also available in this particular property, but there is also a computer in the games room that can be used. The owner was very welcoming and even provided us with fresh eggs from her chickens and duck. This was a really pleasant place to spend a weeks holiday.

This place isn't cheap (averaging a £100 a night). The location, on Canterbury's high street, was excellent. My room was quite pleasant. The view (of a corrugated roof) wasn't exactly inspiring. Tea-making facilities are available in the room along with a few top-grade cookies and organic tea. The bed was comfortable but the height of it and the placement of the television (at a little over bed-height) when combined with my double chin made TV viewing a little uncomfortable. Poor planning. Breakfast was very nice. However, not without some problems. On the first day we went down at 10am expecting that half an hour would be plenty of time. Due to the slow service by the time our breakfast had arrived they had started clearing away the buffet items. My full English breakfast wasn't as full as it could have been. I only had one fried egg and there was no black pudding (kaszanka). Not that I am particularly fond of black pudding, but I would like to get some. I suspect I had been given someone else's break. Oh, the toast was burnt too. When I am staying in a classy hotel I expect them not to burn my toast. Breakfast on the second day was more agreeable, I arrived early to ensure I was able to take advantage of the buffet. The hotel's cocktail bar was very nice. The first night I had an egg nog and for a nightcap a banana rumba drink. Not cheap at ten pounds a shot. But, hey, I wasn't paying Checking out was a pain. The girl had trouble understanding that I wanted separate bills for each night's stay. I gave up in the end.

Plus, Patisserie Valeri across the street has some of the best pastries i've ever had. -The rooms were nice, a good size and modern. The beds were comfortable but a wee-bit narrow but nothing extreme. -The staff was O.K nothing to write home about but they are not very knowledgeable of the area but were fine overall -The restaurant looks like a complete waste of money but then again I didn't find the desire to eat there with so many options just down the street. I only stayed there one night, but I think I got a really nice impression of what this place is like. Actually the reception is only open for Sam hours of the day, as it is just a piece of beef and not a hotel with a 24-hour reception. But on the day of my arrival, there were major traffic disruptions, so I could not make it in time. I called and they helped me out very friendly. They granted me a possibility to get in even doing the night, and it got one until I arrived. If there would have been any problems, I am of no doubt that I could have reached him when calling. When you arrive, you are asked to choose your breakfast: you can choose between a full English breakfast, a continental breakfast and scrambled eggs with salmon. As I read online, at the full English breakfast is really good at that place, I of course chose English breakfast. The next morning comma my breakfast was prepared in the very moment I arrived and the atmosphere was very sympathetic and open. Another family, who was visiting some friends in town, did get all details possible they needed to have a look around the city. And as my appointment did not take part because of the weather disruptions, I asked whether I could stay in the breakfast Lounge till my train leaves and they would let me although they were not lodged and even some hotels sure you wouldn't have the letter stating that breakfast area. I even had a really nice chat and even though the breakfast was over, I was asked if I needed any more drink, so I thankfully accepted to have another coffee. The room was very cosy and had all the details you could expect from a 4 star room. The selection of sweets, like a sweet before you go to bed or a cookie to drink with a cafe or a tea was really delicate. Also the selection of tea and such was really nice, I tried the red berry tea and it was really strong and amazing taste, nothing you would expect from any random fruit tea. They put in a fresh milk in the hotel bar so I put it in my coffee. That is the first time I've ever seen this amount of passion for your guests. Every time again, I would choose this place over a four star hotel that could be comparable in terms of price for accommodation.

At first we were a little bummed to be away from the middle, especially because we had to lug our bags all the way over from Pilgrims to Castle House. But in the end we were happy with the hotel. The somewhat remote location made us walk more and explore things that we otherwise probably wouldn't have found. I believe the pricing is similar to Pilgrims, which is quite reasonable.

The price is right for a no-frills stay, even if some of the walls look like they have already seen a lot of abuse. Travelodges don't exactly attract the best clientele - ahem - but I'd definitely stay again over some of the horrific B&Bs and overpriced hotels you can find in Kent.
