i have two kids currently at Sunnyhill, one in reception, just out of the school's nursery, and the over currently in year 2. I had no qualms about bringing my wee boy in to Sunnyhill after obviously being able to judge how my daughter's getting on. Here's a quick summary of why I'd say it's a good school:
-Teachers very open to parental involvement and obviously very caring and sincere. Both my children have fallen for all of their teachers!
-School has an extra theme which is music teaching. there's lots of evidence based research which suggests that teaching children music increases their potential in lots of ways
-Lots of school trips both in to the locality and in to the big educational attractions in the centre of town
-Big multicultural environment has not been shunned but welcomed, so there's a great optimistic sense of different cultures in the school
I can't tell you what the school is like if disciplinary action is needed because luckily we haven't been in that position. I can tell you that my daughter's homework has been adjusted to enable her differing abilities to shine through, and her teacher gives it her full attention every week.
Like any school I guess, the more you get involved, the more your child is going to get out of it, but I would expect most people to want to chip in and help out on school trips and so on when they can.
I was moved to write this review because I really do not recognise the experience of the other parent who has written something here, and wouldn't feel the slightest bit worried about talking to the approachable teachers if I thought anything was going awry (as we have done before, to help with the homework changes). It's a real community school and I'm very happy with both my kids being there. read more
