My wife got attracted to this place because of the signs in the window. Those signs mentioned that they were having an "End of the Season Sale"!! 50% Off Selected items! The shop was filled with mostly clothing and jewelry from what I could see. Wife was happy with the purchase she made. Sunrise is worth stopping in for a quick look. I have never written a poor review. I wish we never set foot in the door after reading all the poor reviews. I needed a waterproof jacket since it was cool and rainy. I purchase one at Sunrise. Well, i tried wearing it that night but the the zipper was not working correctly. It would get stuck so i was not able to zip it. We tried several times and it worked only some of the time. Went back the next day to see if i could exchange it or get my money back. The lady behind the counter basically told me I did not know how to use a zipper properly! Needless to say, I was not happy. My wife and I had the misfortune of stopping into the Sunrise Clothing store on Main St., Bar Harbor, ME on Saturday, Sept. 14 of this year. The store was bright and clean with lots of appealing inventory but the lady working there was incredibly rude to us. The asking of a simple question brought ridicule and scorn. Had a horrible experience shopping at this joint. We visited the store on Oct 27, 2019 around 12:30 pm. The store attendant was totally nonchalant. Did not offer any help and kept making sarcastic and disparaging remarks, if we ask any questions. She appeared totally miserable in her role. Not sure, why be in customer service when being civil and pragmatic are your worst trait. Her shenanigans continued thorough the checkout process. This was the first souvenir shop we stopped at and the prices were decent. After we picked out what we wanted, my husband suggested we look around at other shops to compare. Other stores were comparable but either didn't have our size or something else. We settled for Sunrise and were very happy with our purchase. My daughter is 14. She was there with five other kids her age who were backpacking Maine with an educational group. GOOD kids! They came down out of the mountains, ate in Bar Harbor and stopped quickly here to buy sweatshirts to remember this AMAZING trip. While five were going through the racks, one when up to pay and he came back and said "she said you should tell your friends that they need to leave because I don't want little kids ruining my business!" My daughter and her friend put back their sweatshirts and walked out and came home with nothing from Maine as this was a short stop in a gift store!! Shame on you. I too had an unpleasant experience with a dark haired woman working there on 8/21/15 around 2:30 PM. We bought two shirts and then I saw another shirt I liked better. When I asked if I could exchange one of the shirts for this other shirt and pay the difference, I was told this would be a hassle to do. She really wanted me just to buy the other shirt and not be bothered. I even offered to give her the $4.00 difference in cash to make it easier since I had used my credit card for the original purchase. I said how about if I do that and she said "how about no". We frequently visit bar harbor and much like Amy R. said in her review of 6/9/2015, there are shops everywhere that sell the same merchandise and are very nice to deal with and appreciate your business. My friend told me about this great shop she had gone to the last time she was in Bar Harbor. She bought a beautiful ring there. She said I would love the shop owner-friendly, warm, and funny! We only go to shops where we are treated with a genuine friendly feel...hey- makes sense. Who wants to be treated rudely? We walked into Sunrise and was immediately greeted by Natasha. Try Cool As A Moose right across the street. I made an account just to write this. My girlfriend and I tried to return a jacket that had a small hole in it. She could of just said "sorry, we cannot do returns" or something of a similar caliber. Instead, she decided to make snark and rude comments about how we handled the jacket. I was looking through some of the t-shirts and nicely folding them back the correct way like I do at every clothing store when this lady who works there says, "There are displays of all of the shirts if you would like to see any". I wish I could give this place 0 stars. It's been over a year since I went to this store but I decided to write the review today because I just warned someone against it based on my experience. I was in the store with my friend. While she was paying for her item I was well behind her in an otherwise empty store. I was checking my account balance on my phone just to make sure I picked the right card. If you've ever been to bar harbor, you know that cell reception is spotty in some areas so my service was slow. My friend finished her transaction at the register but my phone hadn't loaded. So I asked the cashier for just a minute before I headed to the register to pay. There was literally NO other customers around! I checked my balance, picked the card and checked out. The cashier ring me up and then afterwards hold the bag with my purchase in it so that when I went to get it from her she held on to it so I could hear her lecture me about how rude I was being for texting while in line? Of course she waited until after I was done otherwise I never would have let that piece of trash talk to me the way she did and give her my money. I hope that no one ever goes to this place because she certainly doesn't deserve anyone's money. She doesn't respect customers at a basic level. There are so many good, hard-working people in Bar Harbor who have better quality stuff. Make sure you visit them! read more

I would give this place 0 stars if possible! Go to any other store in Bar Harbor for souvenirs. The person at the counter on 9/13 at 7:30pm is the absolute rudest person I've encountered in Maine! There are no displays for the kids T-shirts, so you have to open the folded shirts to see the print. There is a sign that says to leave the unfolded shirts on top, which we did. We opened a few shirts to see the sizes and print, decided they weren't for us, and left. When walking out, she gave us a rude look and then mumbled loudly that we had the nerve to do that and not buy anything. I called her out for her rudeness. She said she was talking to herself but I heard her 10 feet away. Please don't give this business your money, there are literally dozens of stores nearby worth your money. read more

My husband and I loved Bar Harbor!!! Unfortunately, this shoppe was an unpleasant experience, where we both left with our jaws dropped. I was also feeling the tshirts (not messing them up) and was told "the tshirts are hung up right above your head so you don't have to mess up my hard work. thanks." wow. so rude. when we called her out on her unbelievable behavior she told us that she was aware of how she was acting but did not care because it was 'my store and i can do whatever i want.' I literally made an account on YELP just so I could give this store a terrible review. I was very excited by the merchandise they had and had some sweatshirts and a pair of earrings I was interested in. I walked towards the large hanging mirror by the edge of the jewelry counter, and prepared to try on some of the sweatshirts; when I wanted to call my partner over so he could help me pick one. I took one step forward toward the edge of the jewelry counter and whistled looking for him (we do a little special whistle to find each other instead of calling each other's name). NEXT the horrific woman who must have some kind of social interaction disorder, exclaimed from across the store, "I DONT KNOW ANY JEWELRY STORE WHERE CUSTOMERS ARE ALLOWED TO WALK BEHIND THE COUNTER!!". She said it so loudly and strangely that I didn't even think she was referring to me, then she briskly walked over and began using her monstrous body to push me backwards- I hadn't realized that I LITERALLY LEANED past the edge of the jewelry case, she did not even have the small door latched to allow for customers to know what the boundaries are, because there are actually huge amounts of jewelry and merchandise hanging on the wall with no discernable boundary. She verbally accosted me, asked me "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING?", and I said, "well, I was looking for my partner" and she said, "WELL YOU CAN WALK AROUND THE STORE LOOKING FOR HIM.". Next I said, quite plainly and honestly, "I am very confused as to why you are so frustrated, I only leaned past the counter to try and see if my partner was still in the store." and she replied again with verbally accosting and very rude and honestly strangely angry and scary remarks. Not once did she say, "can I help you? did you want to look at something in the case?". I was ready to give them at least $25 of my money but promptly left the store feeling confused and sad and very violated. read more

Would give this store a -5 stars if I could The first time I went in I had an ice cream cone which was almost gone and was told I needed to leave Went back a few days later because I saw a sweatshirt I liked. Since the store has no dressing room, I took off my top (under which I had on a tank top) to try it on. It was too big so I hung it back on the rack and as I continued to browse the store the cashier said "do you always disrobe in public?" I informed her I had on a tank top and if they had a fitting room I wouldn't have had to "disrobe in public." I also told her I didn't appreciate the way I had been treated by her on both occasions and would under no circumstances give them my business. There are too many other stores in the area who carry a lot of the same merchandise. This lady is in the wrong business. She was a little heavy, had short dark hair and tattoos. She really needs to be fired or the store will continue to lose customers. read more

Don't give this store your business!!! My husband and I came in looking to buy some of the art we had seen from outside, also excited to find a souvenir-type shop that allowed dogs to enter since we had our 4-month-old lab with us. As soon as we walked inside, the woman behind the counter scowled at us very obviously, but we kept going. Our dog is completely housetrained but got super nervous while we were inside and peed a little on the floor. I went to the counter to ask for some paper towels so I could clean it up. The woman sighed and loudly asked, "So you brought a dog that's not potty-trained into my store?" I explained politely that she is housetrained but that she had gotten really nervous and had an accident, and I apologized again and said I just needed the supplies to clean it up. The woman sighed and grabbed a roll of paper towels and cleaner and followed me to the back of the store, not even letting me have a chance to clean it up. My husband had already appropriately disciplined our dog by pointing out her mess and swatting her nose, and she was already bouncing and happy again. My husband took the paper towels from the woman and wiped up the mess himself as we both continued to apologize. The woman loudly said, almost yelling and glaring directly at me, "Well, I'm less impressed with someone squeezing a dog's face than a dog peeing on the floor." Neither I nor my husband had squeezed or dog's face at any point in time!!! Everyone else in the store was staring and I was furious at her allegation. We left the store immediately. Too bad for that woman though because instead of spending a few hundred dollars on her paintings, she lost more business!! I'm less impressed with her art than with her attitude!!! read more

My mom and I had a terrible experience at this store today. My mom put a scarf around her neck to see if she liked it and then left it on a rack. I picked it up carefully and put it back in its place by the other scarfs. That's when the lady behind the counter rudely told us that I needed to bring her the scarf so she could check for damage. Her tone was very menacing. We took her the scarf and although we told her that we would pay if it was damaged by us, she said v loudly: "you don't have a choice here!" At that point, we put down the windbreaker we were going to buy since I wasn't about to give this place my business. I don't even want to give one star but can't post without it. Just after entering the store I noticed a nice selection of t-shirts to choose from. I pulled a shirt out of the pile and size was wrong so folded and placed back in where it belonged. I thought I did a good job but right behind me I hear "If you don't want it don't put it back. I don't know why people put it back it just wrinkles the shirt and makes it worse." She pulls the shirt out of the pile still mumbling at me and in my defense I said I was trying to be helpful. She then said that I wasn't helpful at all. I left the store. In reading some of these reviews here she must be the boss because she is still there, otherwise I can't imagine why she would still be there. The prices were great if you want some clothing but I would recommend not folding or putting the clothing back if it is not the style or size you were hoping for. My guess though would be she would have something to say about that too. read more
