My Darling Maine Island Boutique is another great Bar Harbor Gift Shop on Cottage Rd where you can pick up really interesting keepsakes. No- you're not going to find the mundane souvenirs here. What you'll find are gifts with a purpose, many with a twist and a message from local artists. Victoria and I caught up via email and phone to solidify my appointment. She was super accommodating to our schedules and opened her shop earlier than expected. Thank you so very much! Her shop has a little of everything including casual and funky clothes and other well-priced pieces that I snapped up for myself! She was beyond friendly and we practically talked for almost an hour. Finally, I found delicate, handmade silver earrings shaped like blueberry leaves in My Darling Maine. Perfect! I wore them to work my first day back - and lost one. I was heartbroken. But I contacted Victoria to buy a replacement, and she took the time to send me individual pictures of every pair of blueberry leaf earrings she had in the shop (because they're all unique!) so I could choose. And then she mailed them to me in Virginia. Now my beautiful blueberry leaf earrings are a sweet reminder of our family vacation in Maine AND of the power kindness can have over loss. My husband and I stumbled across this store and loved it. Many stores in downtown Bar Harbor start to feel the same but The Beehive has a different buzz about it. The interior was quaint and classic but it also had a clean, modern flair to it. I spent most of my time looking at many whimsical products they carry from Fred (aka Genuine Fred) before settling on two potholders with sassy sayings like, "Recipe for Disaster." We also looked at hip crewel pillows, candles and souvenirs. Also, we enjoyed the pretty "Greetings from Acadia Nat'l Park" mural. All stocked with tons and tons and TONS of Maine related items, because why would there be anything else, right? Well!!! Acadia Park Company is just ANOTHER one of those stores! I will say this...even tho there are tons of t-shirt shops, that also sell...magnets, mugs, hoodies, I mean..you name it! Acadia Park will for sure stand out to you as one of the nicer ones. 1) its very large and has tons of room to move around. Many on "the strip" are small and cramped. Not this one. 2) its very nice inside. Very clean, nice floors. 3) every product is laid out beautifully. Whoever designed the layout...props to you. You sure did put thought into it and have made a tourists shopping experience in a very busy little town VERY! busy...so much better. 4) you will for sure find something you love here. They have the most amazing hoodies. Hoodies other stores did not have. Did I buy one tho? 4) No, I did not :( :( and I regret it to this day....I was just there like 3 weeks ago lol. This specific review is for Acadia Park Company - a souvenir store that boasts "2% for the park." My understanding is that 2% of revenues go to Friends of Acadia (FOA). Luckily, owner Michelle and I played email tag to confirm my visit for a Monday morning appointment. Spruce & Gussy has different nooks with Kitchen and Beauty items, Books, a Children's corner, some Women's shawls and gorgeous silver jewelry- all locally made. Search more carefully and you'll find high-end pieces and modest ones also. Her gifts have a distinctive Bar Harbor flair without 'Bar Harbor' being all up in your face if you know what I mean.
