I really liked this school.... or at least the idea of it. I've always heard that these schools…read morewere so much better than conventional learning. Often I wished that I could've attended one and maybe I would've had a better taste in my mouth about education. Nahhhh it's all the same just with some hippie dippy frosting. My little boy ( who isn't on the spectrum ) was asked to not come back to another school because after being picked on repeatedly about his speech impediment and getting his lunch tray slept away from him finally stood up for himself. We thought this would be different... It was not. The whole way these schools sell themselves to you is the "extra special attention to every single child". They say that until they come across a child that needs some extra special attention . My little boy is nothing but a rambunctious B-O-Y. Well, that's too much to handle. What he needs is to be straightened up and disciplined ( I know this because it works fantastically on him ) not pulled to the side and asked to speak about his feelings and to meditate and sing Kumbaya (I know this because it doesn't). I'm sure this school is fantastic if you think an education revolves around fingerpainting and relaxation exercises, just don't think it's the answers to your prayers. So, now we are looking for another school and they are still putting up these filtered pictures. If your kid is a perfect example of what a child should be like this is the place for you. I'm pretty sure though if your child is the perfect example of what... then you're probably not looking into alternative learning scenarios. If your kid happens to get a little energetic, may say a word he's heard that he's not supposed to, or God forbid he tells another child that he doesn't like them. Keep them away from the school. I would hate for some Berkeley daycare school drop out to half to actually work. Most importantly I would hate for your child to have to be told that they can't go back to a school that they like and feel like he's some sort of failure. What a waste.

A great way to support my child in learning how to be independent and successful! I also love that I can drop him off as early as 7am and pick him up as late as 5pm....so helpful!

The school is aesthetically appealing, clean, high ceilings, lots of natural light/windows & subdued colors. They really work hard to make the environment soothing for the children. On any given day you will hear soothing music playing, smell essential oils being defused. The little ones are taught about grace, courtesy, social skills, conflict resolution, self help skills/autonomy, self soothing, etc. They really teach to the whole child. They don't put math/science/reading above any other life skills, which is huge. Many days they have "gratitude circle, meditation circle, or massage circle," where they get to practice these skills. The stimuli/materials available also make learning fun. They are made from natural materials so you don't need to worry about what is off gassing/leaching around your child. And, they are so visually appealing, little hands want to reach for them. These Montessori materials make abstract concepts become concrete & fun to master. The staff members know the children intimately, due to the small size of the school. From admin to assistants the adults are patient, enthusiastic & energetic with the children. We love the school. Mrs. Sam, my son's teacher is a rock star. She is equal parts strict and spunky. In her calm/quiet way she teaches children about boundaries, and yet she is so full of pizzazz. Mrs. Claudia has compassion & grace for days. Mrs. Lisa (front desk) always has a smile & wonderful recommendations/solutions. Ms. Maddie is by far the most compassionate, attuned & in touch principal I have ever met. Ms. Z will patiently and enthusiastically answer your little ones 391 questions! Ms. Isa will cut you grace when your little human makes a less than stellar choice, if she got a penny for every time she said, "That's okay, don't worry," she would be in the top 1%. I am an educator myself & have worked in many different districts, this school is truly a gem. We are so blessed to have found it. The children are truly treated like family, loved on, safe, nurtured & can therefor thrive.
