Our family's experience with Dancing Moose Montessori School was absolutely horrific, and unfortunately it has left a lasting impression on our entire family. I do not use those words lightly. Our greatest concern was the safety and well-being of our child. The situation became serious enough that we ultimately felt we had no choice but to involve outside authorities. What made an already devastating experience even worse was how the school responded. Instead of accountability, compassion, and genuine concern for what had happened, we felt blamed and dismissed. As parents, you entrust a school with the most important thing in your life: your child. We trusted Dancing Moose Montessori School to keep our child safe, and our experience completely shattered that trust. Both of my boys, in 2nd grade and preschool, joined mid-year after we moved, and I'm amazed at what the school accomplished in such a short time. The teachers are incredibly diverse, energetic, and talented--Ms. Jenn and Mr. Gabriel especially bring creativity and passion that truly inspire. Dancing Moose has been such a wonderful place for my girls. The confidence my older daughter gained there is something I truly cherish. The teachers are amazing, and the administrative staff has always been incredibly supportive and kind. Kendra, Dominique, and now Ashwini and Dorothy have all been wonderful and helped create such a positive, welcoming environment. My daughter participated in the dual-language Spanish program, and I loved that she learned not just the language but also meaningful cultural lessons. You can genuinely feel the great energy throughout the school, it's warm, joyful, and intentional. I also really appreciate that lunch is included, especially since my kids often request the chef's food over mine! The movement and gym time are another big plus, particularly on days when the air quality is bad. My son attended the preschool at Dancing Moose several years ago, starting at about 1 year and 8 months old, and stayed for a little over two years. To this day, the experience still troubles me. I had hesitated to write a review, but after seeing so many overwhelmingly positive ones online, I feel obligated to share our story so other parents are not misled by appearances. 1. Parents, have you been told that your child has "developmental delays"? Have you been encouraged to take your child to therapists or apply for certain "scholarships" to offset costs? If so, please be cautious. In our experience, these claims were more about money than genuine concern for children. The staff's fake smiles and insincere reassurances only masked an environment that was harmful, not nurturing. The school director, Kendra Wheeler, was the driving force behind much of this, and in my view, the worst of them all. 2. At the time my son was enrolled, the school required no real credentials for teachers. In fact, they openly recruited parents to work there. Many staff members lacked the experience, training, or temperament needed to educate young children. About half were pregnant women who, at the time, seemed to work there primarily for free tuition. Unfortunately, most showed little genuine interest in child development. 3. When my son first attended, he had never been away from his mother before. Naturally, he cried after drop-off -- something any trained teacher should handle with care and compassion. Instead, teachers ignored him. He cried until he vomited, and the only response was to push his head over a trash can so the floor wouldn't be soiled. When I raised concerns, the teacher insisted this was the "right approach." Later, after transferring to another school, I saw firsthand how much of a difference a caring response made. 4. During his time at Dancing Moose, my son was sick almost every other week. While young children do get sick often, the frequency was far beyond what I observed later at other schools. When I asked about sanitation, the director assured me that water bottles and kitchenware were cleaned daily. Yet one day, I personally saw my son's water bottle from the previous day left unwashed, still with food residue inside. 5. To be fair, there were two teachers who truly cared and made a positive difference during certain semesters. Without them, my son's experience would have been even worse. I am genuinely grateful to those two individuals. Final thoughts Don't be fooled by the Montessori label or the attractive appearance of the school. The quality of education depends entirely on the teachers, and at Dancing Moose, many of them simply did not care. Worse, the administration seemed more focused on labeling children with "delays" and pushing unnecessary services than on nurturing growth. After we moved our son to a different school, none of the so-called "developmental concerns" were ever mentioned again. Today, he is thriving in elementary school -- excelling in math and enjoying sports like basketball. If your experience as a parent sounds anything like ours, I urge you: remove your child from this school before it causes lasting harm. read more

Our three year old son started at Dancing Moose Montessori School this year. We're only a few months in, but he loves going to school and his teachers and the other school faculty we've met have been wonderful. The school is open and inviting with lots of warm, natural light throughout. The classrooms are designed for children with little tables and chairs, sinks, and even toilets. It's fun to see the children interact with everything on their level, it's like walking into a miniature world. We appreciate the time and attention the faculty provides to each child and the frequent events and activities they offer to involve parents. I'm excited to see our son develop and learn at Dancing Moose Montessori School and I'm confident we've made a great choice choosing this school. read more

Our family started our educational journey with our first son in 2019 and after exploring a few other ideas, it quickly became a no-brainer that this was THE place for us. 5 years later and we couldn't be happier with the educational progress and whole-child development that we have seen. Our second son started in 2021 and although both have very different learning styles and scholastic aptitudes, both are thriving and loving school. From the exceptional teachers, to the front desk, the kitchen staff, and the wonderful families we have met along the way I can't say enough good things about this school. It's not just a school, it's an educational experience filled with long lasting memories. It's a journey I'll forever be grateful to have been able to give my sons. They love to learn and view school in a positive manner and that's all I could ask for at this early age. The worst educational experience to date. Total disregard for our son, lack of communication from teachers and staff, a tolerance for bullying that ultimately ended with staff lying to us about our sons needs. It seems like a lot of faculty teach and work there because they want their children to attend for free; not because they like children, teaching, or even being a basic human. We withdrew him from DMM, he has done very well both academically and socially in other school. Bottom line, find a different school. Emotional scars aren't worth a cheap Montessori option. read more

We do appreciate all the teachers and the learning style of this Montessori School. We only had one glitch, a costly one. Our boy is very active and borderline ADHD. For his Preschool year he did great, they really do teach well and the kids learn and have fun. There was no problems here whatsoever. They helped my son with his own needs. For kindergarten we applied for a scholarship that would help us with the money it cost to send him here. We got the scholarship through the state because he was diagnosed with PDD, he did have some special learning needs, the teachers worked with him well overcoming any problems. We received notice that the scholarship was awarded the day before kindergarten started. We then were pulled into the office of the owner/president of the school. She notified us that our son would not be successful unless we had a tutor for him and then she started throwing numbers around, 400 dollars was the first number thrown out. 400 on top of the extra 700 we were paying. We could not get him into any other kindergarten by this time and we were totally stressed out. We were left with compromise and that was it. We finally agreed on what the scholarship was paying which was 200 something dollars. If we had been notified at the end of preschool that he needed extra help, and it would have cost us extra, we would have weighed the cost and may have stayed but would have looked at other options too. The way this was handled was messy and very stressful for us. We had a friends child that was not allowed to continue at this school due to problems, we heard about this and thought if we didn't do what they told us they would kick our son out. We would really have a problem two to three weeks after all schools had already started. We felt as though this was done at the time it happened because we got a scholarship and they were looking for money. If we had not received it then things would have gone on as years before, with the great teachers finding ways to work with him. We did get him on methylphenidate in December of last year and he started reading within a couple of months. I know my son needed some help but the way this was handled was inappropriate and shady. read more

We transferred to Dancing Moose from a daycare when our son was 2. We felt really good about the tour and our meetings with the teachers prior to enrolling, but the idea of a change was a little scary. By the end of the first day I knew we had made the right choice. It is such a warm and loving environment filled with amazing teachers. They engage the students every second of the day and are always having fun learning, exploring and becoming independent. He has learned so much in the past 5 months! This past week included a yoga class, a karate class, a music and movement class, art projects, lots of playing outside, a visit from some comic book characters, and a water safety class. They also have 'down time' to relax and read books, circle time, and units (such as putting train tracks together or working on blocks). Those types of things are just part of the regular day-to-day activities at Dancing Moose. They also have special events that are really fun, such as a mini-marathon and a really cute mothers day program. The 2's class is also learning to count, match colors and apparently teaching my son to talk in full paragraphs and say sorry and excuse me. Our son really looks forward to spending his day at Dancing Moose. He has so much fun with all of his little buddies. Most importantly, I know he is safe, loved and well taken care of while he is there. read more

Dancing Moose is a special place and community, I would highly recommend it to anyone in search of a preschool or kindergarten program. Our son has been at DM since he was 3 years old and will complete 1st grade this Spring. He has had a wonderful experience that has set him up for success as he moves on to elementary school. We put our son in this school after going to a daycare and trying out another school. As soon as we went into the building for the tour we felt very relaxed and comfortable with the school. Our son instantly fell in love with his teacher and that was final decision. Now our son loves getting up and going to school. I feel very comfortable when I drop him off. They have so much individualized attention that has my son has excelled!! He is going into kindergarten reading basic words, writing, doing math, ect. They have such a small teacher to student ratio that I can get an update everyday on how my son did and what he did for the day. I love that they have extra activities daily. They do yoga, karate, free movement, ect. They get to play out side and get cooked fresh hand made food on a daily bases. With all of the play that is incorporated to learning, they get down time to relax. For the younger classes they get a 2 hour nap time that is slept on cots so they are off the floor and comfortable. I cannot say enough about how wonderful this school is!! I love that my son LOVES going to school and comes home everyday and tells me what he has learned. I couldn't be happier knowing my son is in good hands, a safe environment, and loves being there. read more

Our son started at the South Jordan Dancing Moose for preschool when he was three, after we investigated many options. Now, two years later, we couldn't be happier with our experience there. His learning style has been catered to, and his individual needs have not only been addressed but completely supported both mentally and emotionally. His physical development with fitness classes and extra curricular options have been encouraged and fostered in a way that he has been excited to try everything from tumbling to karate and even tap dancing. He has been exposed to multiple cultures and world celebrations while immersed in a diverse population of loving staff and families. Possibly our highest requirement is safety and security. Dancing Moose has been exceptional in this area. For us, our choice of Dancing Moose has been one of the greatest decisions we made for our son. We won't be able to afford the tuition, so our son will be starting kindergarten elsewhere - but he is MORE than prepared for his new environment, thanks to his experience there. Our 5 1/2 year old started at the West Jordan Dancing Moose the summer she turned 3. She started attending the South Jordan Campus when she was 4 and now Kindergarden at 5. We will be enrolling her for the Summer and 1st grade. We have found that the teachers at Dancing Moose really care about our daughter and see her for who she really is. They notice her strengths and comment on them. They are sympathetic and responsive to her struggles. Her Kindergarden teachers and her Chinese teacher seem to really appreciate her sensitive nature and they try hard to show her that she is loved and not looked down on when she is sad or expressing her emotion. Plus, she is reading and writing and doing math constantly at home and seems to love it. She doesn't think school is work or bad in any way. She loves her friends. She also loves the summer camps and "Moose Boost" options. We were living in San Francisco when our daughter was 1 and the pre-schools there were between $8,000 and $12,000 per year (not including summer) for Montessori, so we happily pay the tuition for Dancing Moose and think it is well worth it. read more
