The lesson could not have been better. Aloha brothers provides wetsuits and boards as part of the lesson. The instructor, Taylor, was so kind and patient and made the lesson so fun that neither kid wanted to take a break during the 90-minute session. To put that into perspective, we had to walk three blocks with surfboards, and they required three breaks to make it through that experience. Both boys ended up being able to stand on the board and could not wait for their next lesson. My son struggles to keep doing something if it's difficult, but thanks to Taylor's encouragement, he kept failing and kept getting back up and trying again. Communication with Nick, the owner, was fantastic. The price was great for a two-person private lesson (check the website for the latest pricing).

I was to received a refund on a canceled trip and he spent the money on personal matters, taking 2 months for me to receive $1,400 back. He delayed communication, spent my money, and continued making excuses on why he couldn't pay me back stating he had to pay taxes and the permits on his business. All of which may be true but is unrelated to me receiving my money back from a CANCELED TRIP. I did finally receive my money back (2 MONTHS later!) after stating I will seek legal action because I no longer felt comfortable handling this matter with him. He makes unprofessional comments on customers. He's stated to my friend who bought a lesson package with him, "He made a comment once about how he likes selling packages bc a lot of times people don't use them so he can pocket the money lol". This friend had already taken a couple lessons and was NOT looking to continue working with him due to his poor communication and inappropriate comments regarding current and previous customers. Will Adams and VBSClub are not capable of handling business and I do not recommend others working with this business or individual.

Our instructor was Cat and we were in a group with just one other person. Cat was great at explaining the steps and giving us tips to improve. We got in the water shortly after and Cat started pushing us into our waves. After a few waves, I started getting my own waves and Cat provided a few suggestions for what to do the next time. The only weird thing was that Cat got out of the water with the other guy in the group to show him stuff and was out for longer than I expected. My fiancé definitely needed more assistance than doing it on his own, but he kept trying. When Cat finally did get back in the water, she didn't really start pushing either of us. Despite that, I still thought she was good and thought the value was worth it.

We met by the bathrooms of El Porto by lifeguard station 12 and picked up our wetsuits from their cars. From there, we headed towards a less crowded portion of the water by the rocks, and did a quick yoga flow before going into the basics of how to pop up and hold the board. After the lesson, we got assigned our boards and went off into the water. I think both instructors tried to spread their attention as evenly as possible. I was able to stand up multiple times and surf some one-foot waves (go me!). The time flew by, and once it was over, we brought the surfboards back to their cars. They'll take Venmo for tips. I would suggest wearing your flip flops to the beach since the ground was really hot, and also bringing a water bottle for post-surf. There's paid parking available in the lot although the meters seem to be broken since I still got a ticket even though my parking should've been valid. Otherwise there's very limited street parking. You can leave your valuables in the instructor's car. You can book private lessons on the website or small group lessons as well. Definitely book the lesson - it's a great workout and you'll have so much fun!

Not only is Jeremy patient, funny and cool - which is nice since you will be spending a few hours together in the water - but he also a killer instructor. Every time I go surfing with Jeremy, he makes sure I get up on a ton of waves, teaches me technique, how to correct mistakes I am making to improve my ride, how to read the waves, and how to become a better surfer on every paddle out. When we started I had only been out a few times. Now I can get up on my own and am really seeing my surfing improve. Jeremy is a total professional and will help you improve your surfing far more than any other teacher. He is flexible on scheduling sessions and reliable. Jeremy always takes you to the best waves for your skill level so you have a blast and improve with every session. I would highly recommend Jeremy to anyone. All the classics - big sticks, ice cream sandwiches, bomb pops, jaw breakers, snowcones, pickles, banana on a stick, cotton candy buckets, paletas, and more. It's also one of the few camps where you purchase by the day vs the week, so the flexibility is great. It's California. Going to beach camp is a rite of passage. So is the sand you bring home in your car too.

They're really nice and there's ice cream truck every day and pizza on Friday." Speaking of the staff, they are truly one of the best (especially Jessica!!!) and so responsive! Lockers and locker rooms are near disgusting. Amazing how a city that has 1-bedroom apartments that rent for $6,000 can't make a nicer facility.

The locker room is what you'd expect in a facility open to the public, but the pool itself, water quality, staff attitude and lifeguards are all first class. The pool water temperature and chlorine levels are nearly always right where they should be. At times when I've forgotten my goggles, I have completed my workout without great eye discomfort. Currently, October 2022, the pool is not open as many hours as it was prior to the pandemic. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, the pool is divided in half with four lanes for laps swimmers ; the balance of the pool is reserved for recreational swimmers. There is a diving board for those that pass the swim test. Be sure to check the schedule before heading to the pool as swim lessons can intrude on lap swimming lanes. Children's and adult swim lessons are offered for a modest price, and the classes tend to be small. Most all of the staff wear face masks at all times. As of now, masks are not required for entry. The entry fee has varied over the years, but it has always been very affordable. Right now, 2022, seniors get in for one dollar.

I write this review with trepidation because I do not want this pool to become crowded, but I've…read morebeen searching for a good local pool and hope that this review can help others who are doing the same. This pool is located on the campus of Venice High School, and is open to the public during various hours (see website for details). Also, it is the only indoor pool in that area that I know of beside the one at the Santa Monica 24 hour fitness. The locker rooms, like any public pool, leave much to be desired, and are built like concrete bunkers. The walls and floor are all concrete, thus cold pools of water cover the entire floor and it is freezing in there, especially when you're wet. However one thing I liked was that rather than having actual lockers, there is an attendent behind a cage window that you hand your items to kind of like a coat check. They also have these mesh bags that you can use which hang on these metal poles they set up so that you don't have to put your stuff onto the wet bench or floor. Once you put everything in the bag you simply hand it to the attendant for you to get later. This way you don't have to cram everything into a little locker or worry about bringing your own lock. There are also lifeguards on duty and they have kickboards and poolbuoys available for use. The structure itself is also very well ventilated so though it gets colder than a smaller building, there is less of that strong chlorine smell. All of the attendants and lifeguards on duty are friendly and helpful. The crowd is mixed, though I would say it skews toward the older side. All in all, this is a great place if you're looking for a no frills swim. While you do have to suck it up while you're undressing/dressing before and after swimming if you're going during the colder months (and wet floors and benches are annoying), the pool is spacious and well kept. I also love that it's less than 2 miles from my apt.

Wow, this experience was absolutely incredible! Sunrise Surf Academy completely exceeded my expectations. From the moment I arrived, the vibe was positive, supportive, and full of energy. Conor is truly the best coach you could ask for. He knows exactly when to push you to go beyond what you thought you could do and when to slow things down so you feel safe, grounded, and confident in the water. He doesn't just teach you how to surf. He believes in you. He'll literally push you into waves and help you realize you're a much better surfer than you ever imagined. Sunrise Surf academy is the best! I had the best surf lesson from them. Pako was my instructor and he made sure that I left knowing I could catch a wave on my own. I've always been an ocean girl but the waves can be kind of nerve racking, but Pako helped me face my fear of the waves and gave me the confidence to get on the board. Sunrises instructors are pros and have been surfing/teaching for many years. Pako is a pro surfer from Costa Rica and has been surfing for 20+ years. I signed my brother up for their surf camp at Will Rodgers and he is so stoked to be going! Can't wait to book with them again. read more

My kids have taken surf classes with perfect day and we love it. Our instructor was Brandon, he is…read moresuper kind, patient and great with kids. He helped them catch waves, he goes out there with them and sets them up for success. They had boards and wetsuits for the kids to wear if you don't have your own. The boards were in good condition and they have boogie boards as well. My youngest is just learning to boogie board so he was more comfortable with that and only going out with Brandon, which I'm totally fine with as long as he tries. My oldest was able to catch waves on his first day, Brandon really helps and gives one on one instruction. The kids were friendly and my kids had fun.

They were so happy!! My son wants to be a surfer now. When you are a passionate teacher your students will leave wanting to do it for a living. Thank you Matty!!! I can't wait to bring my son back for another lesson. It will be worth the 2 hour drive.
