SURFING IS NOT EASY AS IT LOOKS. It's scary looking but promise you, it's not! If I can do it... I'm sure anyone can do it! I recommend coming if you're fully vaccinated. They didn't check but just to protect yourself and others, please be considerate! :) I had such a great time even though the water kept hitting me on the face. Haha. It's really hard to stand on but Princeton helped out a lot with my family and I. We literally had the best time laughing. He's the most energetic, helpful, nice, quick and fun instructor. I went with my cousin, little brother and little sister. He made sure they were okay no matter what. I can see he really enjoys teaching kids. That's the best kind of instructor to have. I was worried that my brother and sister would float away since they're younger than 13 years old. I'm so happy I got to enjoy myself as well instead of worrying about where the kids are or if they floated away. The waves were pretty strong. It dragged me away at some point but I came back. If you know how to swim, you're good! If you don't please let them know so they can watch out for you closer. The vibes was the best. He kept making sure we were okay. He probably saw the waves kept knocking me down ahahahah. Princeton is from Hawaii, so he has a lot of experience in surfing. He started surfing since he was EIGHT years old. JUST WOW. And when you can follow that with a sea foam iced coffee at Dogtown, because you didn't swallow as much sea water as you expected to, you have the recipe for a perfect Saturday. I cannot say enough good things about Mike, Peter, and the rest of the Go Surf LA crew. I have taken three lessons with them, and they quickly got me from "never surfed before" to "comfortable enough on a board that I could learn on my own." Moreover, they are kind people who genuinely want to see others enjoy the water as much as they do -- even texting to let me know when the best tides would be, so I could get in some weekend practice. The lessons were the perfect balance between learning mechanics on the shore, getting comfortable on your board in the waves, practicing your timing and pop-ups, and safety. I am not the greatest with balance, but their affirming and fun attitudes helped me build my confidence. If you are looking for the real deal, and a great business to support, this is it. It's meaningful to me that they have a history of doing great work to empower local youth. And thanks to them, I can now call surfing my favorite hobby. read more

Never surfed before in my life. I was pretty nervous at first but from the moment our group was introduced to the instructors they took care of us. They didn't make anyone feel uncomfortable or make fun of you for not knowing things. It was a little worrisome that the amount of instruction they provided was minimal but in the end you realize there isn't much to beginner surfing. It's all about using the basics they teach you and getting the feel of it. They made sure you got in as many reps as you could during the time you were out in the water and cheered you on the whole time. If you have decent balance and lots of determination you are very likely to stand and ride your first wave with the instructors help. I would definitely do it again and would highly likely go back to Go Surf LA for further guidance. Would recommend to anyone. read more

I highly recommend go surf la! I had never surfed before and signed up for a group lesson and there were 2 other people in my group. We learned how to stand up and then immediately went into the water! Way more time in the water than I was expecting. The instructor was sooo nice and patient with me. Made sure I felt comfortable in the water. Had lots of 1 on 1 time and he helped bring my board out into the water, turn it, and pushed me when the white water was coming! read more

Had a great experience with the class a few days ago. Took my wife out for a surf class (her first time and my second time), as a Mother's Day gift. Not quite sure on their set up, but it seems as though they had 3 or 4 instructors for the same time frame. I believe they allow up to 5 students per group class. Essentially each instructor was providing privates for the separate parties. Steven was an awesome instructor! He provided much attention to detail and encouragement. We'll definitely be coming back for more lessons. Highly recommend! read more

If there is a choice lower than one star, I would like to do it. I booked one surf class with this company and my coach Brain was so unresponsive. Today is my first time to try to surf, and I don't have any experience in the sea. He doesn't care about my feelings at all. He just told me the three steps to pop out on the beach and asked me to lain down above the water. Things are totally different between sea and beach. I am so scared when I was pushing out and asked for pop out without any help. I know learning how to safe is not a easy thing but a coach could do more than what Brain did on me. I will never suggest this class to anyone. Someone who is interested in this company should think about it. read more

Had a fantastic group lesson with Go Surf LA! The instructors were super helpful, and were able to get every one of us up on the board actually surfing waves, even though it was a rough, choppy day for waves. The week before the lesson they reached out to us, offering to adjust the time of the lesson if we wanted, since they new the waves weren't going to be great. We kept the time as-is, but it was nice they were thinking ahead for us. Plus, we had a last-minute cancellation, and they were nice enough to refund us for that one lesson. read more

After I told him my surfing experience (middle-aged, occasional surfer from East Coast) he was able to identify improvements and repeated refinements throughout the lesson. I've been talking about learning to surf for over a year and so I finally took the plunge and Booked a last minute group surf lesson. I was solo and there were three other fun women students. Our instructor was Jared who was great! We had a quick on the ground lesson learning how to stand up on the board and paddle. Then we were in the ocean! Jared spent the entire time patiently pushing us off and coaching us on how to catch the waves giving us pointers along the way. Such a fun amazing experience. Would highly recommend! read more

I signed up for 3 private family lessons for my son, his wife and their 9 year old daughter who were visiting from Virginia. They had great fun and loved it! None had surfed before but, by the end of day 1, each one was able to stand and ride a wave(s) in. Owen and Andres were fantastic teachers. Even meeting at their truck in the parking lot in the morning and getting fitted with wetsuits was fun. Everyone is enthusiastic and friendly.
