FRAUD!!!! LIAR!!!! Modern day THIEF!!!!! I really wish a negative star rating was available on Yelp. This is the most despicable business and business owner I have EVER come across in my entire life. If you think that the old saying "used car salesmen are bad" is true, this guy, Master Lee, makes them look like angels. This liar and con artist is on a level of his own. PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE. PLEASE TAKE MY PLEA AS A WARNING TO STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THIS LIAR and THIEF! My girlfriend and I signed our kids up trusting his verbal promise of being able to CANCEL AT ANYTIME. We trusted that a man's word is good, but this disgusting excuse of a human being lied!!!! He lied about placing my account on hold and lied about cancelling my account when I requested and verified with him multiple times. He said it was done but I no longer trusted him and called the billing company to check. And what do you know, he never called and only placed my account on hold for two months.... when it should've been cancelled. He then changed my billing date and had the company charge me on 1/1/2019 for what reason, I don't know. He is the poster child of a pathological liar. Long story short, I noticed the charges on my credit card and on dates not coinciding with the "contract." So naturally flagged them and filed disputes on the charges via my credit card company. They suggested blocking this billing company they use, PMP out of Florida. When I called to confront the billing company, they started trying to extort more money out of me by trying to get me to cancel these disputes and pay more money to cancel out the whole contract. I contacted this billing company multiple times because Master Lee said he cancelled my account and when I called to verify with the billing company, they informed me that MASTER LIAR LEE NEVER CALLED!!!! And this was multiple calls lasting about 30 minutes to figure out what was happening. He teaches being honest and good to children and he does this to their parents. I don't even know what more to say other than that I have never come across such a liar and cheat in my life. I've worked retail many many years and have encountered a lot of characters but never have I seen a pathological liar like him. He also likes to play victim and acts like he doesn't know what's going on. He also tells parents that their children have a gift that he can see (his sales pitch is pretty redundant and lame... my gf and I heard it so many times that we joke about it) But due to the massive amount of stress and mental anguish this has caused me, I have had to seek legal counsel and am in the process of taking care of it that way. Sadly, I gave Master Lee since January to take care of this mess and he has done nothing. And according to the billing company, Master Lee sent in some sort of letter/email requesting an amendment to my contract on his own accord to charge me on a different date. He is scum! Please stay away!!! Please be proactive and check the BBB.org reviews of this business and protect yourself. I will also be filing a complaint against this business on BBB.org to help others avoid this mess. read more

Sunrise Taekwondo is, I believe, one of the best taekwondo centers in Portland. I understand that nowadays the word "best" can be highly cliched. But I am using that word neither flippantly nor lightly but sincerely. Definitely, all taekwondo masters are all black belts to a very high degree. They know the art of what they are teaching. However, what sets them apart, what sets the taekwondo centers apart, are the masters themselves. Surely, there is a stereotypical persona that people look for in martial art masters. Mr. Miyagi in the movie Karate Kid and even Shifu in the animation Kung Fu Panda exemplify this highly respected image. They are men and women of depth and deep thought. They can look into your eyes (whether it be that of a child or an adult) and see the hidden inner strength that haven't been awakened. They can gently draw out and tenaciously train up the fighting spirit of one who will henceforth be a noble peacemaker. But most of all, they are father figures that embody strength, wisdom, and trustworthiness. A child/a person feels safe, safe enough to explore and gaze into the self within. A child/a person feels strong and worthy enough to gird oneself with the noble virtues that were simply regarded as unattainable fancies. Indeed, masters have to take upon themselves such imbued duties and responsibilities, some with more dedication, some slightly less. But observing Master Lee and Master Oh at Sunrise Taekwondo center, observing how they are esteemed by the taekwondo association itself, observing how they are respected by the students themselves, I feel confident to claim that this taekwondo center is truly one of the best places to learn the ancient yet formidable martial arts of Korea. read more

Sunrise TaeKwon do taught me a lot about Korean martial arts. I first learned about how to count to 10 in Korean. Then we learn stretches, forms, and 9 step movement technique. There were many other people training in the classroom. Some days only a few people, which help me focus in more. You are provided with a free Gi and two weeks for a trial period to see if you like it or not. Then you make the commitment to go and I did, and it was well worth it. I learned new kicks such as the x kick and spinning back kicks. We also get to break boards which is really fun in the test. I also really like how the teachers work with you one on one, you get a up close personal interaction with them. There are also sparring classes I took on Saturdays, and I would highly recommend buying your own gear it is well worth it. I also went to one of the tourtaments and it was amazing to see the other schools perform and to see sunrise to an excellent job as well. Thank you very much for teaching. read more

Hello everybody! I just want you to know if there is anybody I would reccomend as a Teacher it would be Master Lee and Master Ooh. They have done an excellent job at explaining an being part of my growth and development. I learned a lot of moves and practiced a lot even at home. I was excited to be part of the class everytime and the energy was always very high and the teachers are always encouraging and enthuiastic. I came here to for self defense and to increase my confidance. I gained those skills, even when I had many challenges and difficulties and wanted to stop, master Lee told me how great I was as a student and could potentially become a teacher. I felt proud, and knew I had to overcome some hurtacles and obstacles in my way. I will say too have fun and don't get to stressed about everything. Also be serious too when it is the time for it. Sunrise TKD is a fantastic taekwondo studio. My boys and I have been going there for almost 6 years. I'm confused by some of the reviews on here. First, it's kind of crappy to double your bad experience by posting two reviews. Second, it seems absurd to say you didn't have a chance to read the contract. I've signed 5 of them over the years with them. Not once was I forced to sign without a chance to read. If you didn't read it, that's on you for not taking the time. We are always bound by the contracts we sign. That's the way way it goes. No one said you had to sign a contract. You can go month-by-month there; you seem to have wanted the benefit of a discount price. That comes with a trade-off of making a commitment. Anyway, all my experiences have been great, along with those of the dozens of friends my kids and I have made there over the years. Keep up the great work, Master Lee and Master Oh! read more

I never hoped to find such a great Taekwando school and amazing community when I walked in the doors at Sunrise Taekwando about a year and a half ago. Besides learning so many things that can be applied to real life and being pushed to stay in better shape than I could have imagined in forty years of life, both me and my daughter - and apparently many of our new-made friends and their children - enjoy the camaraderie and fun, as well as the energizing work-outs to the beat of music, in the generous space with thoughtful amenities of this school. The schedule with many open classes allows me to meet a busy schedule with full-time school and doctorate studies on top, while still endulging in the new passion that Taekwando has become. Sunrise Taekwondo is great me and my children loved it! We were really shy and scared at first with the fierceness and masculinity of the teachers but do not be intimdated! they are very kind, friendly, generous, and patient with the students. WE were blessed to be part of the school and we are wanting to continue going especially after seeing the expansion and remodeling of the studio! My brother attends and practice TaekwonDo here, and I think the way they teach is really great. They not only teach the Koran martial art but also how to respect people. It is not easy for children how to be polite to people, but after attending the class, my brother seems like he is controlling himself at a public place. I went to Koran Night at Portland State University last Friday, and I saw an amazing performance. I asked people how they finished their own performance. One guy told me that this place had taught them how to have performance. I came here to sign up. Even though last Saturday was my first day, I felt their passion toward to teach people was really high. I used to go to Taekwondo center for 2 years when I was back in Korea. I forgot most of the basic things when I started going to Sunrise Taekwondo a month ago. But mater Lee and Master Oh have taught me from the basic stance again with a patient and now I am can do as good as before. Our kids have been going here for a couple of years now and we could not be more pleased with this school! Sunrise is really more like an extended family where our kids have made friends, had fun, and learned valuable skills of focus, concentration, and respect in addition to all of the physical stuff.
